That's interesting, in the E3 gameplay when they were fighting Atlas, the thing seemed to go down really easily so it must have just been because it's demo, the demo was set to easy mode or it wasn't that far into the game which I doubt. I really need to finish getting the platinum for FFXIII before this game comes out.

I know I'm wrong, but I'll say it always. I think XIII-2 is an APOLOGY game. Maybe if people didn't crap so much on XIII, then they wouldn't have made XIII-2. If you noticed, they added towns, NPCs, and all the stuff people *****ed about not having. I'm probably not gonna buy this. XIII is perfect the way it is. It never needed a sequel or a modification. Maybe if people didn't complain so much, then SE maybe would work on XIII Versus or KH 3 (I'm pretty sure half of the people who complained about the delays on Versus and KH also *****ed about XIII)

It's most likely a major reason why they created a sequel (Not to mention FFXIII did sell rather well) but Square had a lot of ideas to expand the mythology of Fabula Nova Crystallis. To be honest, it felt like they could explain so much more. There was a lot left unexplained and they could've added a lot more. Plus a lot of fans of the game did not like the ending (Myself included) in the sense that it wasn't a particularly happy ending. So not having a sequel would be major rage! >|

Square are still working on Versus but they are taking their sweet time. Perhaps learning from XIII?

I really didn't think more of a story was needed. According to the history of Final Fantasy, all of the sequel games had pretty bad reputation. X-2, Dirge of Cerberus, ect. Don't get me wrong. I love SE, but sometimes, they're too honest. They take criticism seriously. Like FF XIV. They held back the PS3 version of it because people craped all over it. It's about the same situation here. I loved XIII ending. An extension could make some people like me confused. I'm already swarming with questions on XIII-2. Where's Lightning? Where's the others? (Besides Hope). Why is there a new type of enemy? Who's Atlas? Once the full game comes out, Ill probably have more questions. Buying the game or not, I'm still deciding.

isn't that the whole point of making people wait? It makes them question what's going on, and when you finally get the game, you get answers to those questions. I personally think the sequals are fine, if not great. I've owned Dirge of Cerberus, and still play X-2, and I love them both. Dirge of Cerberus was just a great way to get Final Fantasy fans to play a shooter, and you got to learn some backstory on Vincent. With this, we'll be able to find out what happened after XIII, and we can also learn something about the other characters that only got a few minutes of screen time, like Sareh and the others

Yeah, this is most likely an apology game, but there really was nothing to apologize about. It was a good game; it wasn't the next coming of the messiah, but hey...it was pretty and entertaining while it lasted.

The polish was great, the characters were pretty straightforward. I've heard complaints about the battle system, but honestly? this is almost no different than turn-based, it was different and it definitely broke the suspension of disbelief when coupled with other complaints, but that's it.

    Mini-rant aside:

I welcome a sequel as long as it doesn't thread the same path X-2 did. Sequels are just not very welcome in general because they sometimes ret-con things and mess the first one up with convolution or bad development, unnecessary gimmicks(Capturing Monsters D; ), ect.

I think we could all welcome more of the mythology in games on the same universe, like VSXIII, or anything of the sort without much hassle. A sequel is dangerous ground to thread on, but we'll see.

having mythology would be great, but I think they're trying not to put in too much, because otherwise it might just turn into a completely different game. Making a game for the Percy Jackson games that follows the books perfectly would work though.

Either way, how does it turn into an apology game when they had already planned all 4 of the XIII games before they even came out? Wouldn't it technically be counted as an apology game if they decided to make it after they heard the complaints of the first game?

I think these are the original plans for the Fabula Nova Crystallis.

They had elements they decided not to scrap from FFXIII, and since XIII sold well, yet received lots of criticism they decided to make a sequel.

But yeah, I agree with you on the fact that it may turn into a different game, but they definitely need to expand on the mythology up front. Not just in some datalogs or documents.

Imo, sequels aren't always a good idea and I rarely think they belong in Final Fantasy (I mean, isn't that one reason it's called final? Because they didn't want to make a sequel to the original?) but, as TacoMan said before me, it's great to expand on the mythology. And when you have a game like Final Fantasy XIII where the mythology is an important part, but not all of what makes the game so great, sequels are a good idea. I mean, alright, we have a basic idea of fal'Cie, l'Cie, Foci, and how all of that works somewhat, great. But I want to see the rest of Gran Pulse, more of the citizen's lives, etc. Also, judging from the rest of the FF sequels, Square Enix likes to shift the focus of a sequel from the previous main character to another (Tidus to Yuna, Cloud to Vincent to Zack to Turks, Lightning to Serah, etc.). In this case, I'm glad they did. While I did love the ending of FFXIII and didn't think it needed a sequel (Fang and Vanille deserve to rest, if you ask me), I'm glad they're making a sequel. Something about the compilation not being directly related to each other annoyed me a bit.
    Blah, I'm rambling.

So what you're saying is that you don't think the story needs a sequel, but the world itself does?
Yeah, I can agree with that. It'd be nice to see a different story set in the same world, since it'd give us a better understanding of what the world is like.

Um... just to clarify, there is a whole different reason they are called Final Fantasy.
Way back before the first game was made, Square was in danger of going under, they only had enough money left to make 'one last' game.
Literally, it would either be this game that would save them or break them.
    Their 'Final Fantasy'.

And that is how they came up with the name. (I can't find the interview that revealed this, but yeah, thats how it was.)
    And look,
so many years and games later, and they are still going as powerful as ever.

    ~

As for getting back on topic.
Yes, not all FF sequels have been good, but it doesn't mean we can pre-judge this one. I mean... they may have learnt from their previous mistakes from the other games and I personally felt that not all the sequels were that bad anyway.
Each game offers something new to the table.
Too many games is overkill, but in terms of sequels, I don't think they've reached that stage yet.
I mean, every FF is a different story that is indirect to each other in most cases, so having the occasional sequel is alright.

Only thing FInal Fantays has related to each other is the enemy monsters, Behemoth is a prime example and the slight reference to what happened in the other games such as in FFIX, at the endgame, Zidane said "Let there be no squall or cloud that hinder us" refering to FF8 and 7

FFXIII also had a few references to different numbers, Hope's hometown, Palumpolum was refered to FF4 mages, Palom and Porom, Orphan;s final boss can be killed by Vanille's Death spell since in FF Legend, you could kill the last boss with chainsaw equipment instantly, the Lindblum was a castle and town in FFIX, the Gunblade of Lighting was first used by Squall abeit a different way.

Vanille's english VA also said she is tight lipped but the wording on twitter refers to her respiring her role as Vanille but in a 'completely' different experience as she noted, if this is true, the english version is probably running at the same time as the Japanese are making it since FF13 became such a big hit, personally, I hope this game fixes the Leader flaw since if a leader dies, it's game over so you are hard pressed to keep them alive.

I'm pretty excited after seeing the PAX Prime 2011 trailer for XIII-2. The only thing that slightly disappoints me is that NORA haven't changed their clothes after three years.

    Also...
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE! Digging them long sleeves. ;)
Seeing as the trailer reveals him saving Noel and Serah, I'm hoping he returns as a party member!

I thought you jsut said the clothing wasn't changed. Hope apparently has long sleeves. But I'm just wondering, how can you turn a bommerang into a weapon? I don't see how it can kill anyone. But does anyone know who or what the main villain is in this one? Or what the major plot is?

    Some news regarding Noel.
Seem pretty spoilerish, but likely gonna be throw right in the beginning.

Noel is from the future were there are no Humans, basically, Noel = Trunks.
Can't believe didn't catch it earlier even with the time motifs in the moogle.

It's not a huge spoiler but I kinda wish I'd learnt of it from the game. I'm tempted not to read any new info on this now. xD

As for Noel and his situation, I'm really interested into finding out how this happened, how it's all gonna take shape and how it'll end. Obviously there will be multiple endings but I wouldn't say no to a 'true' ending of sorts.

2 questions. Why is Valhalla in this game? And why is Noel from the future? Is there any reason he's in the past? Why is Lightning guarding that temple? I'm confused
