That is also true, but they had it happen to themselves first. Which just links it further, what with Noel and Serah being 'collected' by her to help whatever it is she's doing.

Which makes me wonder what Caius represents in this. Another interpretation of Ragnarok, or something foreign to Norse mythology completely?

Final Fantasy has always had a little bit of mythology from a lot of things, most of all Norse mythology. I mean, if you take a look at all of the games, you'll see a bit of a lot of stuff, but you'll find quite a bit of Norse

I think, and this is just pure speculation, that Caius might represent the coming of Ragnarok, or something else along the lines of that. I mean, he doesn't have to relate to Norse Mythology, but I think he's basically a representation of the evil and, I don't think I'm going to word this right, the urge to protect. I mean, he's supposed to protect the timeline or whatever right? So maybe he's just doing it so much that he doesn't realize he's doing it in such a way that it's harmful. Kinda of like when a person wants to help another, but they end up doing something bad just for the sake of protection.

Like I said though, that's pure speculation

Final Fantasy is actually giving me a history lesson. Right now I've picked up some Latin, some Norse mythology and other pieces.

Yeah, it was basically what let me know a little bit about Norse Mythology.
Although I'm still more of a Greek Mythology person.

I like this idea, since it relates to the idea of Ragnarok being the end of the world, but also as a thing to be celebrated.
Of course, the world already ended because of Ragnarok in FFXIII (which, again, turned out to be a good thing), so perhaps instead Caius would represent the opposite theme? It would depend on what effect Noel, Serah, and Lightning are having on the timelines, but if they're destroying possible futures, then perhaps Caius will represent creation in some way?

Well yes, but wasn't Ragnarok still used to cause destruction? No matter how you look at it Ragnarok is something that destroys, whether it be for some good purpose or not.
But maybe if Caius were to represent creation or something else, that would make that thought a little more valid. Because like I said, he tries to "fix" but he also causes destruction, so he tries to fix in the worst way possible.

I'm going to get confused between the Ragnarok of FFXIII and Caius's Sword.

Caius's sword is called Ragnarok, right?

    It is?
Okay, guys, time to get your conspiricy hats on. Let's figure out how the sword could be the same entity as FFXIII's Ragnarok. I know there's a possibility somewhere.
Since Caius is from the future (implied to be, at least), could the sword be carved from the same crystal that holds up/held up Coccoon? That would explain the allmighty powers he seems to have.

yeah, but I'm sure there's no connection. They just probably wanted to make it symbolistic

    I've seen that, lamentably ; ~ ;

I mean, really Square? Explain to me how this is improves on the first one? Was there any point in removing your human party members. Why couldn't we just have both?

Ever since I heard of the playable party thing, I was fairly certain we'd only get guests in certain parts and then go with only Noel and Serah. What I'm hoping for is that we at least get to disable the monsters in the party. I don't want it to be obligatory.

Needless to say, I've already seen complaints on it. Yet, on the Fan-day event, where they could actually ask, they didn't!

Ah. One would think they could rename it, but I'm fine with Ragnarok.

I doubt SE would just go "Tell you what, it' s ok if you choose to completely ignore what we' ve worked on so hard for months, dump the monster and pick a human instead. We bothered to create 150 + monsters, a raising system, a fusion system, but who cares, right ?"

Raising a top-notch monster is quite time-consuming, a single playthrough won' t cut it and it will force the player to spend a lot of money. On the upside it gives the player much more customization freedom than the lousy Crystarium, on the downside you still can' t create your own jobs by combining the basic ones.

I really don' t understand why the hell they didn' t give as much customization freedom to Noel and Serah though ...
Oh well, I can' t stand the Paradigm Shift anyway. That' s too bad, If there was a way to completely remove AIs and
stop the timer whenever we enter a menu I would want that game badly, despite the Monster-MagicalMarySue-WhatsHisFace poor mandatory trio.

I'm getting really annoyed with all of these pre-order bonuses. Can't they just release most of them on the PSN/XBOX Live?

No. Because they need to promote the heck out of this game to make it successful. So exclusives and trinkets will definitely make it sell at least decently. I wish it wasn't like this either, but it's all marketing.

They should. I never asked them to shoe-horn a monster system god knows why. I don't understand why they'd make such a drastic choice like that. The Guest characters aren't even controllable when they appear. What would drive them to decide something that is sure to get them some backlash? Here I thought they wanted to fix the issues the first one had, not add more.

The Crystarium is supposed to be different now. And from the looks of it, far more customizable. Anyone can learn from any role they want (except monsters). And while it's not a full-on customizable thing, you can pretty much make your characters into whatever you want within the confines of the Crystarium. You may still not like it, but that's your prerogative and opinion. So that's fine.

Do you think compiling a letter with multiple complaints about the monster system would make Square finally answer the question before the game is released? Lol. I'm fairly serious. I'd spam the heck out of their inbox with e-mails regarding the whole monster thing, because it's bothering me quite a bit now. And I've seen lots of complaints about this, and Square's reluctance to say if we'll have any permanent human characters other than Serah and Noel.

It would possibly be pointless, but I'd like to see if it can be done/nevergonnawork.

Lol, welcome to my world. I never asked them to shoe-horn some IAs or to bring the main series closer to an A-RPG feeling and yet they' re hellbent on doing so. The series has shied away from its original formula since FFX, SE made quite a lot of drastic choices that were sure to get them some backlash since then, so it' s nothing new really.

Until FF IX they only tweaked the growth system and abilities, the rest of the gameplay was pretty much always the same. In each marketing operation they troll about the fact that the FF series was always about unrestricted change but that' s a blatant lie, those changes were restricted to a specific gameplay area.

They obviously don' t feel that they can' t be innovative or successfull anymore if they don' t shy away from those restrictions, 4 Heroes Of Light and Bravely Default are living proof of it. Therefore my conclusion is that they' re just not interested in keeping the series to its roots. They don' t give a **** about what the series was, they want to catter to a younger, broader, fresh audience.

They said they wanted to listen to fans complaints, true, but put yourself into the SE marketing manager shoes for a second, who would you listen :

    - Patman : "Oh dear God, FFXIII sucked in so many ways I wouldn' t know where to begin. Just respect the old formula dammit !"

    - Average SE Fanboy (who probably never played anything older than FFX) : "FFXIII was linear, but otherwise you guys rock ! I' d be delighted to see the series grow into a KH wannabe with Pokemon elements, but honestly, whatever you guys do, as long as it' s pretty with cutsy shonen poser morons tormented by a mature and profound drama (mature and profound = don' t forget I' m 16 years old) just shut up and take my money lol !"

It' s not that I don' t like it, it' s just that I prefer a system that allows some personal customization and experimentation rather than "which road do you want to take first, you' ll take them all anyway and end up with the character we want you to become". Also I' m not a big fan of switching between six basic jobs. They still haven' t revealed any new job, have they ?

Not a chance lol, but ask them about a Type 0 localization while you' re at it.

I'm guessing Caius's theme was 7:12, aye? I have the OSt pre-ordered (Limited Edition!), but from the samples it sounds good so far. The battle theme hasn't quite grown on me yet, but I think that's cause I love Blinded by Light so much. xD
