Am I the only one brought to tears when hearing this stuff? It is the work of beauty in my opinion. My dad says "It's stupid japanese showtunes," which pisses me off, but I have a question for all of you out there: What is your favorite Square Enix composition or theme?
There's a lot really. Pretty much every song in FFIX is a masterpiece, though to me personally You are not Alone stands out. To Zanarkand is also amazing, as is the Hymn of the Fayth. Under The Apple Tree and Aerith's theme are also great. KH hasn't really had as good songs to me as FF in general. However, I do love Hollow Bastion (KH1) theme and Xion's theme.
Screw your Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. (Although technically this game started from a spinoff of Final Fantasy) Secret of Mana>Final Fantasy. As much as I like some songs from Final Fantasy, I've always liked Secret of Mana more than any other Square Enix game.
I love listening to music from Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. I have music from FFVII and FFX on my computer, as well as a few FFX-2 pieces and KH and KH2 selections. I often find that my favorites, though, are the character themes. Roxas's is one that I find especially moving, and I always wish that it was longer than what it is. Yuna's Ballad from FFX-2 is also a masterpiece that I can never stop listening to. Seriously, the composition is amazing.
Fate of the Unknown from the Kingdom Hearts OST, as well as the instrumental versions of Hikari and Passion are my favorites from the Kingdom Hearts series. Showdown at Hollow Bastion is pretty intense, but those three are just really touching. And, while I haven't played many Final Fantasy games, I do like the way that Tactics Advanced and FFXII both have that kind of 'Ivalice' feel to them, due in no small part to the music. It feels like the same world, something hard to do with two stories and really games that are so different. My favorite Final Fantasy song though has to be To Zanarkand.
I actually found Ventus's Theme from BBS not too long ago, and it's one of my favorites. It's beautiful and very moving. There's also Xion's Theme and Always On My Mind. The last one is definitely my all-time favorite music piece. And then there's Sora's Sacrifice. :3 No Final Fantasy here, really. All of my faves come from KH. x3
