Final Fantasy being hated

so I was just wondering. I do some reviews of games I've played on my youtube, and one of them is FF3, and why is it that people seem to hated final fantasy so much? I mean, it's just a game. Do people even know why they hate it? Or do they say it just because it gets more attention then their favorite games? I'm getting kinda annoyed by how people keep posting rude comments and everything on my videos just because it's about Final Fantasy.

 

Why would you say that you played one of the ones that basically everyone agrees is good (essentially FFI through VI) and then ask us why Final Fantasy is hated based on that? There are many reasons to hate the newer Final Fantasy games, oh so many reasons.

 

well, what I'm basically asking is why people just seem to hate it so much. I mean, I love them, except for a select few that weren't exactly on the top of my "keep after beating list", but what makes people just hate the games in general?

man, if only I had that other keyboard. I like it better than this one because it's curved and it's easier for me to get the letters than a straight one

 

They're more flash than substance, after FFVII the games have been about a romance and not about saving the world, the games tend to have batshit stupid main characters who aren't even the main characters, y'know, just the usual stuff. From what you've been talking about around the forum you seem to like flash quite a lot, so I don't think I'll be able to sway your opinion in any way

jrpg's are known for focusing a lot more of their time on the aesthetics of the game than the actual gameplay itself. by having a good looking game it serves as sort of a distraction and filler for whatever the story "lacks". i personally don't really have any problems with them because pretty games are nice, but that's why a lot of people who play western style rpg's and fps complain that final fantasy "doesn't fulfill their expectations". besides, a lot of people dislike the direction that the final fantasy games are going since there are so many people think that they are losing their direction and ingenuity and that square enix needs to reevaluate their priorities/their audience when it comes to creating a game that is both "new" and appeals to the western audience.

p.s.- also a lot of people think that final fantasy games are like one big soap opera with huge focuses on emotions rather than story development.

 

well, I grew up with Final Fantasy. I don't mean like FFI or anything, I started with Tactics and FFVIII, so I really don't see anything wrong with them. I love how they look, and personally, I think the stories are great no matter what. Well, except for FFIII, that was the one I just couldn't stand. I don't know, there was something about it that just kept bugging me. But I love a majority of them, just because I think JRPGs are good in my opinion, they're really in depth for more than just stories, and I think they do fine with the whole 'saving the world" thing, even if they add a little bit of romance.

 

I don't like FF because I hate the gameplay and it's just so boring.

I hate disagreeing with an image that's supposed to take the piss out of Final Fantasy, but they haven't been delivering the same **** for twenty years, if they had done that then there wouldn't be a reason to complain, those were GOOD games. Also, those are bad sales figures for a generation first Final Fantasy.

 

I don't hate the games at all. In fact some or most of them are rather good. But what bothers me is the obsession people have with it. There are other games out there.

 

The overall plots and characters have more or less been the same stereotype rehashes for 20 years.
Believe it or not, FF XIII is the only FF I didn' t enjoy, which doesn' t mean that I should praise them in every aspect (or that I can' t troll about them).

 

Final Fantasy I. It's the best game in the series, yet the main characters NEVER speak, NEVER show emotion, NEVER do anything but save the world and look badass in the process. WHAT STEREOTYPES?

 

I think they're nice games. :x

Some people like things and some people don't. No need to get worked up about it on either side. It just depends on what you like and expect out of a video game. Different strokes for different folks.
