to put it simple. I think it's fine. Don't see a point in arguing with anything to do with the cast of this story cause it's been a damn long ... how many years? at this point i wouldn't even care if the whole game didn't contain any females.

I'd be surprised if Naminé Stella didn't join the party at some point in the game.

this topic actually makes me wonder
maybe final fantasy is a major reason I don't have trouble getting invested in a story focusing on women, like some other guys do? I played FF6 young, and got completely absorbed into it, and Lucca and Marle were always in my party on Chrono Trigger because they had Antipode Bomb

Yeah, I didn't get past the 3rd page. This is ridiculous. I don't really care about RA D I CAL B ROO R O AD T RI P MAAAAANNNNN!!!1111!!!ONE!!!!!!!!!!ELEVEN1111!!!!!!!1!111, but there really needs to be some topics and/or mindsets to be considered when voting for this thing.

I couldn't have said this any better.

You just get tired, guys. Of guys. It's gone past the point of "Every video game protag recently is a middle-aged rugged white guy", it's just that there are -- and don't tell me it isn't true -- a stark lack of female protagonists. It's high time that developers should go out of their comfort zone and, despite myriads upon myriads of dudebros everywhere complaining that "They're shoving females in our faces!" (which they probably wish could happen in real life), just ****ing push out a set of female protags who, as humans, have emotions. They have tragic backstories. They have goals; simple, innocuous romantic interests (that don't always have to be so prominent and against the player's will, tbh); intelligence; and depth.

I honestly don't see a reason why Stella couldn't have been worked into the gameplay somehow (I know nothing about the game besides some gameplay videos I've seen, so correct me if I'm wrong), or Prompto couldn't have been replaced with some female counterpart.

It's not like the Final Fantasy series hasn't had a female protagonist before. Of course they have. But do I now have to deal with an all-male party?

Hoping for some new info as the game undergoes further development.

    Also good.

@Te Deum I have a feeling Stella will be made into a party member. I hope so at least. My theory is that they're trying to find/get to her and then recruit her into the party for whatever they need her for. That whole ordeal will just be the first act of the game. HOPEFULLY.

Like I'd honestly be surprised if the four guys were the full party for the entire game.

I can't tell... but did you like my posts because I told myself and Busa to check our privilege?

I loved it, to be honest.

I was really glad to see someone thinking rationally.

Okay, I appreciate the compliment, thank you! ...but that didn't give me a full answer to my question (I'm honestly not sure if that was a yes or no), so I'll just warn you just in case you made any assumptions: "check your privilege" was entirely facetious on my part, almost to the point of mocking those who say it as a means of censoring people. I gave a full explanation in response to "61" on page 3 or 4, but yeah, I didn't actually mean I should check my privilege, and nor should Busa..

Agreed! I've only played FFXII so I don't know how a standard size party for an FF game usually goes, but I'd be surprised if there were less than 5-6 party members total. From the original trailers Stella definitely had/has some sort of ability on par with Noctis, and assuming that new 'Luna' girl is Stella remade, it does seem like she has some pretty crucial intel they need (and the way she clenched her fist definitely seems like she's resolved to do something important).

That said, I am kind of wary that all of the playable characters so far are all male. I like having mixed casts with equal boy/girl ratio (Persona, Tales of the Abyss) since it, imo, creates a more diverse group of people & experiences coming together into a tight knit group of what is essentially a functional family born from dysfunction. That said, my hopes for the "brotherhood" angle they're going to try to pull for here is that the party isn't all made up of the same brooding/silly funny guy/serious/macho buff stereotypes -- it's fine if that's the initial traits, but I do really hope that each of them grow and show that they subvert these traits. Make Noctis crack bad jokes and cry about his dad or s/t, make Prompto make mistakes & grow up and mature from them, make the smart glasses guy be into like...dancing at catchy pop music or something. Something.

I've said it before & I'll undoubtedly say it again, but in addition to the severe lack of well written female characters in meaningful main character/protagonist in gaming as a whole, I'm getting tired of seeing the same type of male character over and over again. Diversity in gaming includes being able to portray men in a variety of different lenses, and while on the whole taking gaming history into account, not as pressing as getting female characters into the mix of things, it's still something v. important to me and something I think needs to happen as part of the movement to diversify meaningfully & respectfully.

On the female characters, I do really hope there's more than Stella (and that she's not the only well written girl on the side of the protags! Independent women should not be only relegated to villainous spots because that's an absolutely ****** message to send out). Additionally, I hope that the women they do introduce, even if they do only show up in one town or one part of the game, show some semblance of a rounded personality! There should be female NPCs that have memorable enough traits or moments where you can point to the map and be like "yes this is where Sheila the inkeeper lives and she does xyz and is so cool." And it's so easy to do in a game, because you can give NPCs quests to hand out to the party and expose on their lives through that! It's so simple, and crucial in making the world feel alive, and I really hope to see them do that with XV.

I'm not hype for this game as I have no idea what to expect (nor care to form one since I think going in blind will be fun), but I do hope that it creates well rounded characters and fleshes out the world that it's taken so long to create.

tl;dr: i am willing to **** with the boy band aesthetic (because all the zoolander/backstreet boys jokes are hilarious)

About whether I meant yes or no?

    It was a yes.

Oh. Well. Still pretty on point.

Sometimes it's necessary, depending on the issue.

I know it's not your job, but would you mind educating me on when it is necessary and what purpose it serves? I realize that people will assume that I'm "better" just because I'm white, able bodied, cis, male, straight, literate, employed, sighted, able to hear, middle class, and English speaking and that that kind of assumption is wrong, but how will that help the people who are non-white, lame, trans, female, gay, illiterate, unemployed, blind, deaf, lower class, non-English speaking, and all the possible combinations of those things? Wouldn't my efforts be better spent actually doing things to help those people? Call me crazy, but I think that helping at a food pantry, marching in QuILTBAG rights parades, donating blood, giving money to cancer research charities, building houses for homeless people, helping unemployed people get jobs, and so on would be much better ways to actually help people who don't have the same privileges that I have. Just thinking about my position in society won't do jack and it's that kind of feels before reals slacktivism that's keeping people from actually getting the help that they need.

I personally find the idea of Stella as the villain really promising. the idea of an elegant, not cartoonishly evil character, who so far seems to rbe roughly as good of a person as the main characters (if not better) being forced to oppose them by circumstance.
Also the idea that having women as villains is a bad message to send is stupid, most villains are men already, and the idea that women need to be held on a pedestal or be treated like delicate flowers is half the reason that when a female characters IS integrated it's done incredibly poorly.

I wish Magus was more useful, but without any decent Dual Techs or Triple Techs there's just no point

    You just did my job.

I didn't say that when a situation arises when people who are non-white, lame, trans, female, gay, illiterate, unemployed, blind, deaf, lower class, non-English speaking, and all the possible combinations of those things are oppressed or sometimes even singled out that you shouldn't do jack ****. I said sometimes it is necessary. I don't have an exact example, but when it happens, I think we'll both know.

That's why I used Frog, too. Frog and Crono brute forced with dual techs, and Magus spammed strong magic and strength. He's useful, but I'll give you that he's also crippling.

he's good mid game, but the fact that he doesn't get high tier magic hurts him in the long run

Well, I guess I appreciate the thought, but I still don't feel I've earned your likes. Reading your posts, it's clear to me you wouldn't appreciate my beliefs on the matter or any similar manner

Guess I was tired and misunderstood. It was kind of late.

    I'll re-read it.[DOUBLEPOST=1411231791][/DOUBLEPOST]
I don't see anything wrong with this.

    This is good.

That would be me. Seems like I only choose to read until here when skimming.

    This is.... pretty on point?

I don't know why you'd feel so bad about being serious about the first part. Without the

this would have been a very good post. You partially earned my likes, even if you chose to mock actually checking your privilege.

See, that is joke though. I don't think that way, and I actually that thinking that way creates problems, hostility, and a lot of unneeded aggression. It can be toxic and it can make people who're "privileged" re-evaluate a life of their's when there's no need- like if they're being told to check their privilege by someone who lives in a three story home while they have to privilege check from their trailer. I'm a big fan of context. Appreciate ya' re-reading, at least you agreed with the more serious stuff I said :)
