Brazilian bikinis as in bikinis found on the beaches of Brazil. And they tend to be a little on the risque side.

As much as I want to just take the easy way out and agree with you, I'm wired in that weird way where I can't. If someone is discussing something with me, and they tell me to check my privilege then I'll ask questions on the why. As long as they aren't saying it as a means to take away my voice on a subject, I'll listen and consider what they're saying. Because if they truly feel oppressed and see me living some privileged life, they'll want to express that and I want to hear that (evenifmaybeidont)

I wrote that because I used the phrase as a joke twice here and people who use it legitimately would probably be upset if they thought I was dismissing it. Nah, I'm just mocking the attempt at censorship that comes with some uses.[DOUBLEPOST=1411156725][/DOUBLEPOST]
On that day.... Suddenly pictures of the staff would appear on my cork board and a red marker ready to X the ones that I've taken down.

I think what he's saying is that diversity for the sake of diversity killed those shows. 90s era shows ended up being different because they were built with diversity as an afterthought. Diversity wasn't the point, it just happened organically with writers' vision.

I'm going to wait until I see how FFXV handles the female characters that it does have. If it makes them into damsels in distress, skanks, silly, weak, or just overly handles them badly, then it'll be a problem. Otherwise, it's just a game about guys. It's not being misogynist if it just wants to focus on a group of guys (though I will try to figure out if changing one of their sexes would have made any difference to the character; if not, then I think that's something that they should have considered), but it focuses on guys while writing the girls badly, then I'll have an issue over it. From what I've seen, though, it looks like they just want a bro setting. Square is generally, in my opinion, good with how they handle female protags; I'm not going to condemn them for not giving me a female playable character in this one game. Now if the game happens to be horrible after 8 years, then that's their real crime.

If someone truly feels that way and they're not just trying to discredit you, there must be a better way to communicate that than telling someone to "check their privilege." There's no way for me to not hear that without it sounding like one of the most asshole things ever. There's an inherent degree of disrespectful demand in that particular arrangement of words that immediately makes the conversation more antagonistic which helps nothing. We're no longer debating this issue, we're debating my oppression vs your privilege that you may or may not be aware of. It's you vs me. If you feel like I'm oppressing you, kindly (kindly) tell me in more words than three, without being so abrasive, so that I have a better understanding of why you feel that way and how I can try to remedy that without you making me feel like the enemy or me coming to think of you as the enemy. I really wish people would stop using that phrase. just be polite yo

So just out of curiousity, do you guys actually believe that a female character won't be joining the party? Because it's pretty likely one will.

Ehhhh I dunno, a lot of those shows sorta just laid it on thick no matter the focal point (Captain Planet's environmental messages or the AIDS awareness episode, for instance). I wouldn't call the race/gender diversity an afterthought either, e.g. much of Helga Pataki's character only works because you make assumptions of how a girl is supposed to act and she breaks them. It's less important for some characters, like Gerald and Phoebe (or Dee Dee's friends, just to buff the sample size here), but that only means cultural differences aren't as big a deal for them. Some represent class or clique differences instead.

    Dis gud

    Thumbs up dis

This is the funniest part to me, 'male focus' is not really saying much at all since most FFs are like that

    I'd play 'em

I disagree. A lot of FFs are about the female character. The journey wouldn't exist without Yuna, Tifa and Aerith are incredibly big roles in VII, Rinoa is the source of conflict of her game, Ashe is the entirety of XII's plot, Terra's the MC and becomes a god, Lightning and Serah are the focal points of their games, and Dagger is where the plot of FFIX lives and dies.

If FFXV is actually all about the boys this time, that would actually be diverse for FF given how many of the games are about the player supporting the female lead while she changes the world, if you're not already that female lead. If it's not, and I'm sure it's not, then there was a stir over nothing.

Eh, can't all be on top of our examples like me *shades*

Honestly though, of all the franchises to be mad about for not being diverse, FF is not a criminal here as it's already done its part. We played as monkey in one game ffs, ya know? It's not like, say, Tales where it's a repeat offender since inception. Nah, it's been on top of the being diverse thing since VI, and I just don't wanna go back further.

Not going to open a discussion about this, but I just wanted to say that Celes plays an immense role in FFVI also. Both are arguably the MCs of the cast.
which, yeah. I agree with you, a lot of FFs do an immensely great job with their female protags.
