The thing is... anybody willing to emulate the game, and who doesn't care about it having English voice actors and stuff... they're going to get the translation anyways. the Cease and desist doesn't mean a thing now because they waited so long, so all they did was upset some fans who understandably figured their only hope of playing the game was through this method. I mean, you don't HAVE to emulate it, anyways, you can apply the patch to your legal copy. But much like the Final Mixes, it seemed like Square wasn't very interested in their money.

Yes, but Square-Enix HAS TO file a cease and desist. Has to. If they do not, more people will do things with their IPs. You have to claim ownership of this stuff or else it isn't really yours

Yeah, dumb part of copyright law, but my point is that they should have claimed it early on to minimize backlash

Yeah, but maybe they wanted it finished like the Streets of Rage cease and desist from SEGA. Companies will wait for the project to be done and released then file and force the creator to take it down, even though it's now free across the internet.

Well on that note... how much water does that copyright thing hold? Like Nintendo doesn't shut down the dozens of Mario fan game sites, same with Sega to their Sonic, and so on. It's gone so far as remakes and demakes of their games have come and gone repeatedly, heck Sega HIRED a guy who made a Sonic fan game.
And similarly they are at the end of the day providing a modification, there's no way THAT'S universally illegal because most PC games thrive off mods.
Or here's a perfectly symmetrical comparison, what about the Mother 3 fan translation?
So it seems to me Square COULD have not done this, if they really wanted

The Mother 3 translation does not cross against a product Nintendo is trying to offer. Nor do hacks, etc. They are different games. Meanwhile, Square is trying to provide an English Type-0, but they can't have an American Trade-Mark on a product that exists, however they have to file cease and desist because that person beat them to the punch with their own product with express permission. Notice how this word comes up a lot guys, context. Especially when we're talking legality, it's all about context.

Square letting them finish was the nice thing to do, that guy being pissy that he can't collect ad revenue off of hosting the translation (another technicality here) and saying "SE doesn't care about its fans" is immature and illegal. He's actually being a baby and responding to manipulating some other company's product with hostility.

They're not providing the same product though, one is supplying a full game, the other is supplying a patch to an existing game

They're still offering the same product- english localization of the trade-marked Final Fantasy Type-0

Here's some info regarding the fan translation and...well, it's easily apparent as to why Square decided to file the Cease and Desist.

    Source: Kotaku

Excerpt from a Skype conversation from the fan translation team:

Basically it boils down to the project lead SkyBladeCloud being a grade A douche who had no respect for his team nor Square who had not immediately filed the Cease and Desist the moment they contacted the team. There's plenty more to read back over at the source.

This time around I don't think it is square fault, they couldn't just take a HD remake out of their assess, they probably played this for a while, but square enix always take ages to make anything that is why we've felt like they forgot.... This is different from the group that was remaking Chrono trigger, that Square has no intention of remaking.
Ps.: It doesn't make sense, why can't we play it on our vitas :( ???

Which one, the PSP version or the HD version ?

They didn' t release the PSP version on the Vita because of how poorly the Vita sold. And I have a hunch that Tabata being a perfectionist has something to do with it. After all they did port FFX on the Vita, so I assume he wasn' t willing to release a Vita version without improving its graphics first.

As for porting the HD version on the Vita that would require a significant amount of time and money, which raises an even bigger hell no. The problem they faced when running the PSP version on an HDTV would have been reversed, running the PS4 version on a Vita would lead to a tiny hub and menus and a camera too far from the characters. One thing is very clear when you read his interviews : Tabata is strongly opinionated on what you can and cannot do on a portable/on a HDTV.

Personally I was pissed that they didn' t just release the PSP version since I don' t see how the PSP being officially retired would have affected the game sales. The PSP park was still just as big as when they released BBS a few months earlier. I don' t mind it anymore though (PS4 owner here lol).

Any version would sucife me, It pisses me off all the PSP games that are UMD exclusive making all that backlog forever lost.. this and that BS of one Account per VIta that doesn't give me the option to download japanese games :(. I've been playing all the old FF on my Vita, and those games just work better on a handled than in a TV, not only for the graphics (that obviously feel better on a little screen), but all this turn base games with 100+ hours play better in handled. I do own a Ps4, but I'll probably play it on my vita with the Offscreen.

Type-0 is an action RPG (ARPG) not a turn-based RPG. It really deserved the console experience from the beginning imo. Only thing that people might miss out on is the "secret training" which levels up one character while the system is asleep. Unless that makes it into the HD version too.

technically the ps4 will have a "suspend game mode" that wasn't implemented until now, but was promised when they announced. With that in mind..

Is it just me, or does Cinque try to dig out a wedgie after every battle?

Apparently, IGN got to watch 20 minutes of footage at Pax Prime. Also, Type-0 HD is about 80% done according to Tabata(the game's director).

Not much else to say other than what we already know. The game won't look as good as FFXV but it'll still look great.

Some more info about Type-0 here and here. Main points to take from it are:

    • The game differs from XV in that Type-0 is centered around war whereas XV is more like a "road trip that focuses on brotherhood". Bromance in FFXV confirmed. FFXV confirmed for best mainline Final Fantasy.
    • This won't delay FFXV.
    • Type-0 HD will be released by or before August 2015. Most likely earlier.
    • The only new content added to the game is that of four difficulty settings. The original was said to be too hard for some.
    • Type-0 was not released on the PSP because the market for that shrunk in the West. They wanted Type-0 to be a stepping stone of sorts for FFXV to increase XV's sales.
    • Type-0 HD will look awesome.
EDIT: Apparently Bryce Hitchcock is the VA for Deuce.
