It's because the first game was released as an honest experiment, and the later games were based on a set formula and made for money.

You, my friend, are the most masochistic person I've ever met. Search Ghosts and Barrel Spiders were the most annoying enemies in the entire franchise. (Except for those damned Emerald Serenades!)

Why is everybody ignoring that having the same basic moves on KH1 was boring........

It was, but in the same way, mashing X so Sora slides across the room to an enemy, then unleashes a 10-hit combo on them isn't very challenging. There are attractions to KH1's simple system.

Oh you. BDSM is my specialty. XD -

Yes I hate Emerald Serenades, aren't they the ones that run away, and in 358/2 they're double annoying.

They'd be fine on a normal mission, but if you have to kill them, it becomes a massive pain.

I understand that but dont you get tired of bosses doing cool moves while you do a 3 hit suck combo with magic at the end.........

There are summon and abilities. They're just impractical to use.

Yes, but you don't need to complete Monstro.

Ah, of course. That's where that strange scene with Riku comes in, if you do it post-Hollow Bastion.

Woah, what? I've never heard of this.

And on the topic of what I miss, I miss the tight storyline =/. Kingdom Hearts didn't have a particularly deep or involving story, but it was adequate and I liked it and wanted to know what happened. CoM got darker and more serious, but then Kingdom Hearts II screwed it up imho. Way too stretched and convoluted, as evidenced by the fact that they're still making spinoffs to patch up the questions and plotholes.
I also have a friend who for whatever reason hated the camera in KH2 compared to KH1, but I am firmly convinced the camera in KH1 was specifically designed to get you killed. I do not miss it. At all. >>

If you complete Monstro after finishing Hollow Bastion, the dialog with Riku is changed. I think Sora says "You're not Riku" at some point, and Riku doesn't speak at all.

Keyblade Spirit made a thread about it, IIRC.

You will miss a lot of chests, and be prepared for possessed Riku to straight up own you (seriously, you do not know how devastating his teleport dashes are when your jump can barely make it over his attack)

Most of the changes are just Riku being missing or quiet. When you finally corner Riku in the Stomach the conversation between the two of them is reduced to three lines "Wait! What are you-" "What? You don't remember your best friend?" "Liar! Your not Riku" IIRC They extended the dialogue a bit in FM if you went in there with Oblivion though.

Through searching around to give proper details on it it seems that there might be a third variation for in between Neverland and Hollow Bastion. I'm not finding any details on what happens though, so grain of salt.

I do have to ask, does your friend use the battle menu a lot? Because that is the only reason I can think of off hand for disliking the KH2 camera compared to KH1 (since the right analog stick is used for the camera now). That can be fixed with L2 BTW.

So why would you willingly miss out High-jump?

And Riku usually owns me. .__.

Well I got through Hollow Bastion for the scene and then figured I might as well go through the end of the world to see if it was possible without high jump, and if it was then I could say I did. End of the world is just a downward slope. The only hard part after Hollow Bastion is fighting two more behemoths. And of course when enemies fly out of range but that can happen with high jump too, it simply happens more without it.

I can't agree with you there. Birth By Sleep on Critical Mode is the hardest to me. But I suppose any of the games, after playing them on Critical Mode, seem way too easy. For an example: Sephiroth used to be hard in Kingdom Hearts II on Proud Mode. But then I played Critical Mode and then replayed the English Kingdom Hearts II and destroyed Sephiroth without getting hurt on Proud. I still can't beat him on Kingdom Hearts though.

Of course, everyone has their own level of diffuculty. But I do think it was way better than the previous handheld game: 358/2. BBS I've played both on Standard and Critical, and yea Sephiroth in KH1 and 2 can be a pain. Although I failed an unknown amount of times towards the Secret Boss in BBS, it didn't take me too long to defeat him.

After reading this, I believe I'm the only one that actually enjoyed Monstro. I loved that world.
