"Best at everything" doesn't mean flawless, bro. If I wanted to say "It was flawless", I'd say "It was flawless".

Better than any other game in the series. Using stage actors for a lot of the characters was a great decision.

I have not heard that much, but what I've heard I can't stand. If X had problems with lip sync, this game has them in spades; the shit they try to squeeze into the end of a line is just ridiculous. The writing is good, but the delivery is either stale and flat or stilted and confused depending on the scene. Like they didn't understand their motivation half the time. And honestly that's probably because they're stage actors; they're not used to being limited to only their voice and probably didn't know how to emote properly. It's telling that the only voice actor I like from that game is (1) actually renowned for voice work and (2) didn't have to lip sync, due to the character's mouth being obscured.

I think the general complaint is that battles in FFXII manage to be SLOWER then most other battles in Final Fantasy.

That's why there's an option in the settings to increase battle speed. In the Zodiac Job System version, there's also an option to make everything go faster via frameskipping.

The only time you need to pay attention is during boss fights and hunts
gambits handle the rest, and if not gambits button mashing.

Gambits in and of themselves are part of what make the game my favorite in the series. Half the fun is spending lots of time before a hard boss working out the perfect set of gambits for your main party. It's basically XIII's Paradigms, but done way better and well before.

They're not really like paradigms at all...paradigms were basically a mesh of the job system and dressphere system but with no physical change.
Gambits are basically autobattle you have to work for.
Though I didn't use gambits at all during bosses, way too risky

I always saw Paradigms as Gambits+Jobs+Massive Oversimplification. it would have been great if they had left it as Gambits+Jobs and expanded on the system, but they did the exact opposite.

    OOH MAN
Imagine a fleshed out Job system. Like, I dunno, at least like Bravely Default tier. And then the jobs have gambits, combined with the really quite great AI FF13 has

Yes, that's basically what I wanted out of Paradigms. I imagine having a Job System where every Job can use any ability, but due to various stat boosts is most proficient at its core abilities to the point that it's not really worth letting it use outside abilities. There would also be an option to have no job, which would allow equal proficiency with all abilities but also limit the character to its base stats. Gambits would be automatically equipped to each party member based on each member's base-stats and the combination of jobs in the party, but could be customized for various situations. That set of Jobs and Gambits would make up one Paradigm. In battle, Paradigms could be switched on the fly just like in the real FFXIII. Really, everything else would be the same. It's just the Paradigm system that needed an overhaul. The linearity isn't that bad, especially once you get to Gran Pulse.

Speaking of linearity, if they're going to have a nonstandard leveling system, let's have something more like the sphere grid, rather than a linear path you hold down X to progress

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'm not familiar with the Sphere Grid, but I could see making the Crystarium more like a maze than a perfectly well defined path. Take a wrong turn and you have to spend extra CP getting back to where you made the wrong turn. There could also be huge stat bonuses or powerful abilities at the end of some obvious wrong turns as incentive for the player to take them when they need a lot of one stat in a very short amount of time. You know, like a shortcut to give the player a preview of what's in store later on.

My favourites are VII, IX and X. Coincidentally, those are the only ones I've played.

Not by what you say, but by your general attitude.
