Fate...what is it?...

We all have heard of fate.

People say it was fate to meet their spouse, or fate we got these good seats at the theatre. But what do you guys think?

Is there really fate? Can we control it? Or are we all screwed from birth? even before that?

What do you think?

(oh and I realise that theres probably a thread for this but I didn't find one, but hey...I'm blind:D )

 

Fate is interseting. I could sit here and ramble inacurately about destiny but...

You're smart, you'll figure it out why I wouldn't start.

 

I think everyone can ramble for hours about fate.......

I was fated to come to this thread so that I could give my two cents on fate and how I believe that I am the master of my own fate.

 

Right on. I guess I couldn't form my thoughts into words. You did for me. Mad props to the Rook. heheh

 

I personally think fate is just everyone's life plan. Everything that's meant to happen does.

Short and sweet.

 

Fate is the Will of God. All things serve His Will.

 

But what if God (if there is a god) is the fate of a person. Like the actual being that makes you choose certain things

 

Well if you think about, if everything is predetermined before we're even given life, why did God bother to give us free will? If we can't change our fate, why bother to give us choice. Then again if we are truly just following a path picked out before us, why didn't God include that we should always end up choosing the morally better choice. I'm not debating God, what I'm getting as is if God did give us freedom of will fatalism contradicts this.

Fate. Heh...It's funny this should be here. One of my stories has a fate/destiny theme to it.

In my mind, fate is set. If you take an action, you recieve a consequence (be it good or bad, it doesn't matter) that can be referred to as fate. You probably see it coming, too...so I suppose it's what you get after doing something that you knew the outcome of.

Eh, I'm not deep...I wouldn't know.

 

I don't buy into fate I say if anything it is a fact that can be calculated and quantified. All the actions of people build up and touch everything else in the universe. Minutely, maybe. However I don't believe it is driven by anything but everything if you get my train of thought. As such if one did hypothetically have the means and time to calculate every factor the future would be clear, up to a point. But seeing as this is freakishly impossible and improbable we can only call it fate.

I don't mind we had a conversation about it in English class or as I like to call it my philosophical experience of the day. I said something else then but someone persuaded me to this way of thinking.

 

you guys actually talk? If we talk in school or speak out in class than we get sent to the vice-princibals office.

Thank God I'm going to high school next year

 

I'm in "high" school now and my teacher is very nice to us and has a unique to say the least style of teaching.
No tests, only like 2 grades a quarter. So about half the class is failing.
