Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return

Namine felt Roxas release her grip and she walked a few steps into her bathroom, turning to get to the sink. She used her left hand to turn on the facet lightly, knowing that if she put it on too hard, it would cause her more pain. She hesitated for a second and then stuck her hand under the water, biting hard on her lip when the pain intensified.

 

Roxas unzipped his jacket while he waited, feeling warm now that he was actually given the time to notice. He shrugged his coat off and set it at the foot of the bed, vaguely aware of the faucet running in the bathroom.

 

Namine whimpered, unable to hold back that sign of pain. She kept her hand under the running water though, bringing her left hand forward to hold onto her wrist to keep it there. Tears appeared in her eyes, one sliding down her cheek right away at the pain.

 

Roxas turned his head to look toward the bathroom, waiting patiently and quietly. However, he couldn't help but feel that he needed to be in there with Namine, especially because she was hurt. He felt responsible.

 

Namine felt another tear slide down her cheek, the pain setting in deeper. She didn't know for sure how long she should wash her hand, but she wanted it to be clean and free of infection. So if that meant a few more moments of pain...well, she didn't have any other choice but to keep rinsing it.

 

Roxas pushed himself from the bed and walked over to the bathroom, stopping in the doorway. He saw Namine's hand under the water first, then looked at her reflection in the mirror. His eyes softened at the expression her features held, and he immediately wished Jeff would have hurt him instead of her. Of course, that wishing wouldn't get him anywhere.

 

Namine rinsed her hand for a few more seconds before she released her wrist and brought her hand forward, turning off the water. Right after that, she brought up a hand and wiped at her teary eyes, exhaling a breath as she hoped the pain would subside.

 

Roxas stepped into the bathroom, approaching Namine quietly. He stopped behind her and slightly to the side, silently bringing up his hand and putting it against her back. His eyes went from her face to her hand. The good news was that it looked cleaner; the bad news was that it was causing her pain.

 

Namine opened her eyes, turning her head slightly to look at Roxas. When she saw he wasn't looking at her face, she followed his gaze to her hand. It was looking better than before, but it was hurting much worse. Namine didn't know it was possible for the pain to have gotten worse, but it did.

 

Roxas ran his hand over Namine's back in the silence, looking away from the cut and up at her face. He was going to set aside his problems and help her; she deserved that from him.

 

Namine bit her lip lightly and then released it after a second, shifting her gaze over to Roxas. She met his eyes and just looked at him for a few moments, unable to think of any words to say.

 

"You'll be alright," Roxas assured Namine, seeing the pain in her eyes. "Let's go bandage you up and then you can rest, okay?" His hand stilled in the middle of her back, the boy gazing at her sky-blue orbs.

 

Namine nodded faintly, realizing that she was bad at hiding pain. Well, at least physical pain; Roxas hadn't noticed that she was emotionally pained before. She chased the thoughts away, coming back to the current situation.

 

Roxas motioned to the door with his head slightly. "Come on." He rubbed over Namine's back once more before letting his hand fall. He then turned and motioned for her to go on ahead.

 

Namine nodded faintly, offering Roxas a very weak smile. She appreciated what he was doing for her here, even if she couldn't find the words to verbally say it. She walked past him and turned back into her bedroom, her smile completely faded away by the time she sat back down on her bed.

 

Roxas followed Namine out and moved to sit on the bed beside her. Once he sat down he reached for the gauze, beginning to unwrap a little bit of it so he could bandage Namine's wounded hand.

 

Namine looked from Roxas' action with the gauze back down to her hand, having it resting on her knee. She couldn't believe it. Jeff...pulled out a pocketknife and cut her hand right open. Insane. And the ironic part was that it was her pocketknife to begin with. Or rather, it had been Roxas'.

 

Roxas held the gauze in his right hand, offering his left to Namine so he could see her palm. He needed to wrap it up to prevent further infection, and so it wouldn't be as painful.

 

Namine saw Roxas' outstretched hand and she snapped out of her thoughts, lifting her hand and setting it in his, palm up. This was the last step--the gauze. Surely it couldn't be as painful as the disinfectant or the rinsing.

 

Roxas took Namine's hand and slowly started to wrap her hand with the gauze. The room was silent as he worked, but that was okay. He was concentrating on making the injury better, so it felt right that it was quiet while he worked. There wasn't much to say anyway.
