Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Sora shook his head a little, though he was careful not to move Kairi's hand out of his hair. "Not the whole time," he confessed. "I stole some food out of your fridge while you were asleep." He smiled shyly, not sure what kind of reaction he would get out of Kairi. Would she scold him? Would she put him to work for taking her food again?

 

Kairi's smile only returned at the news. She should have expected Sora to do something like that. "Okay," she said, seeing his expression. She only let her hand run through his hair again, not minding the fact that he raided her fridge. Kairi was hungry herself, so it didn't surprise her that he was as well.

 

Sora felt his shy smile widen at Kairi's answer, the brunet seeing that she wasn't going to punish him for it. Thank goodness I don't have to clean the basement again, he thought, recalling what had happened when he and Roxas stole Kairi's brownies.

 

Kairi let her eyes linger on Sora's ocean-blue before going up to his hair, watching her fingers play with his spikes. That weird feeling from ealier... It seemed to disappear now, and she was glad for that, even if she didn't know what triggered it in the first place.

 

Sora shut his eyes for half a second, feeling Kairi playing with his hair. It made him feel relaxed, which helped push away his darker thoughts from earlier. After a moment, he opened his eyes, his smile softening as he looked a the girl in front of him. "How do you feel?" he asked softly, mentally noting that she appeared better than she had earlier.

 

Kairi felt Sora's gaze on her, but she kept her eyes on his hair as she thought over the answer to the question. Her dream was...magical, in a way, but it held significance. Her heart no longer felt like something empty and off was invading it, which caused her small smile to grow a little more. "Better," she finally answered, looking down at Sora's eyes.

 

Sora felt his smile grow again, a sense of relief invading his heart. "That's good," he said, glad to hear her say that. He had been so concerned earlier, especially when she couldn't walk or stand for long on her own. It was good to hear that she was feeling better.

 

Kairi nodded slightly, the side of her face rubbing against the pillow a little. She let her hand run through Sora's spikes as she asked her next question. "How about you?" she asked, remembering his injuries and such.

 

Sora tilted his head to the side slightly, confused by Kairi's question. He had never felt sick in the first place, so what was she referring to when she asked how he was feeling?

 

Kairi noticed Sora's expression and smiled a little, not meaning to confuse him. "Your injuries," she said softly, referring to what she meant when she asked the question.

 

"Oh," Sora said, finally realizing what Kairi had meant to say. "I'm fine." He was just sore for the most part, though his ribs felt kind of bad right now because he had been sitting up for so long. Oh well; it couldn't have been helped. Or maybe it could have, but it was too late to change things now.

 

Kairi heard Sora's words, but she wasn't sure to believe them. As strong as Sora was, she knew he must have been hurting. After all, the battle was brutal. Smith had been pretty rough with all of the boys. At the memory of what happened to Sora, Kairi lifted her eyes to her hand, running it through his spikes again. That had been a horrible sight to see, and she didn't really want to think about it.

 

Sora shut his eyes when Kairi shifted her gaze and ran her hand through his hair. He sensed that she didn't believe him, which made sense, considering that he wasn't being completely honest. "It's nothing to worry about," he clarified softly, keeping his eyes closed. He would recover over time, just like he did after any other battle.

 

"Okay," Kairi said reluctantly. If Sora insisted on it, maybe she didn't have any reason to worry. Of course, she knew that was wrong. She cared too deeply for Sora not to care. That's the way it'd always been.

 

Sora exhaled a soft breath, hearing the reluctance in Kairi's answer. He may not have been directly connected to her heart anymore, but Kairi was easy to read whenever she was concerned. It always had been that way, even when they were connected.

 

Kairi ran her hand through Sora's spikes one more time before letting her hand come down to her mattress. She glanced at Sora, wishing that there was something she could do. But recovering from Smith was hard, and he'd said some things she would rather not think about. But were they true?

 

Sora opened his eyes, feeling Kairi take her hand out of his hair. "You need anything?" he asked without thought, changing the subject. She had been asleep for a while, so he wouldn't have been surprised to find out that she was thirsty or hungry.

 

Kairi let her eyes connect with Sora's. "I'm pretty hungry. What all do I have in my fridge?" she said, smiling a little as she teased him at the same time. She was glad for the change of topic, not wanting to think negatively right now.

 

You mean what I didn't I shove in my face earlier? Sora thought, his smile widening slightly at his own joke. "There's plenty of stuff for sandwiches," he said, recalling all the meat and cheese slices he had seen in the fridge earlier.

 

Kairi's smile grew somewhat at the words, the girl getting hungier at the thought. "Sounds good," she said softly. She'd slept for a while, but she wasn't tired anymore. She would still relax just to make sure that she would be back to herself quickly, but first she wanted to eat.
