Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Kairi felt herself losing consciousness as the minutes went by, her grip on reality fading. She thought one thing before sleep completely pulled her under, and it was directed toward Sora. Thank you.

 

After waiting a while, Sora was sure that Kairi was sleeping. However, that didn't mean that he was going to leave her. He reached behind him with his free hand and propped up the pillows a little before he gently scooted back with Kairi, the brunet moving softly so that she wouldn't awaken from her slumber. Then he leaned back his back against the pillows and let his cheek rest on top of Kairi's head, his eyes falling shut as he prepared to sleep.

 

The next morning...

Kairi slept soundly, her unconscious empty of dreams and only blackness. Ever since Sora showed up, she'd been okay. Nothing dark haunted her in the form of nightmares, but nothing light graced her in the form of dreams either, but she was okay with that. After all, she was comfortable and getting rest. That was enough for her.

Roxas continued to sleep through the sunlight shining on his form from the windows, his exhaustion from the events the day before catching up with him. The soreness from the fight earlier was gone for now, the boy temporarily free of pain as he dreamed of nothing but blackness.

Riku was sitting up in the chair, having been awake for the past hour or so. His eyes were currently trained on the television screen. It was on low volume that way he wouldn't wake anyone up, his thoughts a blur for now as he watched the early-morning sitcom that was playing on the screen.

 

Sora looked at the wall in front of him, the brunet seeing the sunshine in his bedroom. He had been awake for a little while now, but he hadn't moved away from Kairi. He couldn't have been more comfortable than he was right then and there, being with Kairi as she slept. He was content as long as he could hold her close. And besides, the silence was giving him a lot of time to think over things; time that he actually wanted to sort things out.

Namine slept comfortably in the guest bedroom, aware that the sunshine was in the room. It didn't affect her, though, the girl tired both from yesterday's events and the sickness that she had felt for the past week. She wasn't suffering from it anymore, and she knew that she wouldn't have to go through it again, since the person who caused her illness was gone.

 

Kairi breathed evenly, one arm across Sora's stomach as she rested. She moved her head a little more against Sora's shoulder without realizing it, her red hair covering the side of her face. Sora had made things so much better for her over the night, his presence pushing away bad dreams. She couldn't be more grateful.

 

Sora glanced down at Kairi as she slept, the brunet keeping his eyes on her when he saw that she was still asleep. A lot of his thoughts were about her, and their relationship. Things were good between them, but they weren't what they used to be. He knew that it was his fault though; he had created a wall between himself and Kairi when he made her promise not to ask about his mission.

 

In her sleep, Kairi was completely unaware of Sora's eyes on her. If she were, though, she would have blushed. Whenever those big blue eyes fell on her, she got shy or she felt the love through the gaze. It made her happy to recognize that, though she couldn't feel anything while she was sleeping against Sora.

 

Sora shifted his gaze to the wall again, not wanting to stare at Kairi. He...regretted telling her not to talk to him. He created a wall between them, even if it wasn't obvious on most days. He was just now starting to realize that Kairi had a right to know about those four months, since they affected her a lot. They had changed him, making him much more serious than he had been before. Or, as Smith had put it, he had allowed the Darkness to get to him.

 

Kairi used to be able to feel a lot of things around Sora, but ever since he left this world and she left his faithful arms, things had changed. The bond between them was broken; their hearts were no longer connected the way they were before those four months reached them. She knew most of it was her fault, because she had been unfaithful and fallen for someone else. In her unconscious, Kairi's arm around Sora tightened a little, the girl continuing to sleep.

 

Sora glanced down at Kairi once again before he shut his eyes, continuing with his thoughts. Smith had accused him of a lot of things, some of them being true. He said that Sora avoided sharing the truth with others, because then he could act like it hadn't happened. He could act like he had everything together. And he could act like he didn't feel like a failure, because in a lot of ways, he did feel that way. He hadn't been able to protect Kairi from the heartbreak she experienced with Nathaniel. Some protector I am.

 

Kairi couldn't escape the awful truth of her decision even in her sleep sometimes, which was why she had nightmares of Nathaniel in the first place. He broke her heart, and she was so grateful that Sora was there to help put the pieces back together. Her heart wasn't completely repaired just yet, still mending from falling apart at the seams when she heard what Nathaniel had planned to do with her and her Light. It was an awful thing to do to a human being, but he was of the Darkness, and she was of Pure Light; she had been blind to his evil, like Sora had told her.

 

Sora was doing everything he could now, though, trying to set things to the way that they should have been. But he made a crucial mistake, one that he couldn't ignore: not allowing Kairi to know more about the four months he was gone. It was true that he didn't want to talk about it, partially for the reasons Smith had given. But she did have a right to know; it affected her almost as much as it affected him.

 

But...Sora was making things for Kairi easier. He was helping her and guiding her along the road to recovery. Even if it wasn't obvious that he was doing it, she knew. She felt it in her heart, after all. Kairi knew she couldn't doubt anything she felt there, the emotions being too true there to deny.

 

Sora opened his eyes, looking at the wall in front of him. Sometime soon, maybe even when she woke up, he would talk to Kairi. He wouldn't tell her all the awful things that happened, but he would open up the door so that she could speak freely to him about everything. He had been selfish not to let her know about the four months; she needed to know that he was sorry.

 

That realization seemed to be enough to let the redhead lose her hold on sleep. Kairi sighed lightly in her sleep before she stirred a little, her head moving a little as she started to wake up.

 

Sora didn't bother looking down at Kairi this time, his thoughts continuing for just a few more seconds. When he spoke to Kairi, he hoped she didn't know that he had thought of all this because Smith touched a nerve. She probably wouldn't have been happy to know that the evil man had gotten through to him. Still, though, he wasn't sure if she would notice the connection to what Smith or not; Kairi was a smart person, so she could figure it out.

 

Kairi took in a breath before she slowly opened her eyes. They only opened halfway due to her grogginess, the girl registering that she was warm. When she closed her eyes again and then opened them once more, she registered that the room around her was illuminated by sunlight, and wasn't her own. Kairi's arm moved a little and her eyes glanced there, seeing that she was resting on someone's form. But she knew immediately who it was, the girl moving her arm and touching her hand to Sora's chest as she released a soft breath.

 

Sora closed his eyes for a second, feeling Kairi's light touch. Despite his wounds, he felt comfortable with her touching his chest. It helped that she really wasn't pressing down; instead of causing pain, it brought him comfort. He took in a soft breath and opened his eyes again, looking down at the bed instead of staring at Kairi as she woke up.

 

Kairi didn't lift her eyes to Sora immediately, the girl closing them again as she relaxed. She knew why Sora was with her, recalling the events from last night. Her nightmare, of course. Though the memory of it still bothered her, she felt it bounce off of her from the comfort and security Sora brought. She wondered if he was awake, but otherwise stayed silent.

 

Sora waited for a few more moments, hearing nothing but silence but sensing that Kairi was awake. "Morning," he said softly, lifting his gaze to the wall once again. He wasn't surprised that she woke up; she had been asleep for a while. He didn't know what time it was, but he felt as if it was late morning.
