Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas squeezed Namine's hand, but otherwise remained silence. Neither of the girls were able to win this one. He was glad, though, since he wanted both of them to be comfortable wherever they slept. Tonight, that was in the beds.

 

"So stubborn," Namine muttered, though a weak smile was on her lips as she said it. He and Sora were alike in that way; always firm in their decisions and refusing to change in any way. She wished they wouldn't be like that sometimes, but at the same time, it was part of who they were.

 

Roxas felt a small smile form on his face at the words, though he didn't deny them. He was being stubborn at this point, but it didn't matter to him. He was tired, the girls were tired...everyone was tired. It was time for sleep, and Kairi and Namine would find it in the bedrooms.

 

Namine felt her lips turn up faintly, seeing the smile on Roxas's face. But she could also see the tiredness setting in. She leaned up a little and gave him a light kiss on the cheek before she slid her hand out of his, rising to her feet. She would head to bed, expecting Kairi to do the same.

 

Roxas's smile grew a little bit as he followed Namine with his eyes, his hand coming to rest on the cushion once she released it. He was glad that she was going to the guest bedroom, since it was obvious Kairi was going to take Sora's bed.

Kairi saw that Namine was going to head out of the room, so she realized it was probably best if she did the same. The girl lowered her feet to the floor and then leaned over, pecking Sora lightly on the cheek before she too rose from her seat. "Goodnight, you guys," she called quietly, walking away from the loveseat and toward the doorway.

"Night," Riku called quietly, watching the girls head out. He was glad they finally settled that small problem, though he was sure there was one that was going to be between him, Sora, and Roxas. On where they would each sleep, no doubt.

 

Namine gave the boys a soft wave, a weak smile on her lips as she looked over all of them. She hoped they slept well, out here...she chased the thoughts away, starting towards the hall so that she could go to the guest bedroom.

"Goodnight," Sora said softly, seeing the girls making their exit. He was glad they were going to the beds, but that left the boys with something else to talk about: the couches. There was a loveseat and a couch and the chair that Riku was in, but he didn't want his best friend sleeping upright, especially in that uncomfortable seat.

 

Roxas watched Namine and Kairi leave until they were out of sight, the boy then turning his gaze to the two people left in the room. "So..." he started, lifting a hand to rub over the back of his spikes. "What now?"

Riku lowered his hand to the arm rest, looking from Roxas to Sora. "You two are taking the couches," he declared. "Sound good?" He really didn't mind sleeping in the chair, which was a recliner. If he needed to lay back, he could.

 

Sora shook his head at that, his gaze going to Riku when his friend made the suggestion. "That thing isn't very comfy," he pointed out. He would know, considering that he had fallen asleep in that chair for his early-morning nap. He would feel better if Riku took a couch instead.

 

"Remember where I've been sleeping the past couple months?" Riku said, bringing up his mission. He arched an eyebrow at his best friend at the question, but didn't allow an answer. Instead, he continued. "I'll be fine. Don't worry about it."

 

"Sleeping upright can't possibly be healthy," Sora said, referring to the injuries Riku had received in battle. One of them was a hit to the chest, and he was sure that sleeping in an upright position wouldn't help the wound heal at all.

 

Riku shrugged slightly, though he regretted the move when his chest burned again. "I can always recline the seat," he said. "No big deal." If anything, he just wanted to sleep, and he didn't care where. The chair was fine.

 

Sora shook his head, realizing that Riku wasn't going to give up. "Okay." He wasn't going to pressure his friend; they were all tired, and when they were all exhausted, the could get a little...snappy, with each other. Sora didn't want it to happen, so he was ending the conversation and going to sleep.

 

Roxas looked from Sora to Riku in time to catch the latter nod, and he shrugged slightly. "Okay. Since we've come to an agreement..." he said, turning a little on the couch and leaning toward the light in the room to switch it off. "Time for some shut-eye. 'Night." He flipped the light off, the room being surrounding in darkness immediately.

 

"'Night," Sora said, carefully laying down the length of the couch. There was a pillow by the armrest, which he was thankful for. He closed his eyes and got comfortable, feeling the exhaustion become more apparent now that the lights were out.

 

Riku lifted his arm a little to lean his head against his fingers, the boy closing his eyes instantly. He knew one of the ways to make the pain go away was to sleep, and hopefully it'd be less in the morning.

Roxas sat back but then slowly lifted his legs onto the couch, being careful because of how sore his body was. He then leaned back, his head falling on the pillow by the arm rest. Time to go to sleep and wake to a day without Smith. Finally.

 

Sora stayed on his back, aware that his ribs hurt more whenever he laid on his sides. He exhaled a soft breath, focusing on tuning out the pain that had been nagging him for a while. After a few minutes, he drifted to sleep, consciousness leaving him as he finally slept in peace.

 

A few hours later...

Kairi could feel the sharp grip, the Heartless's claws digging into her lower arms. All that was surrounding her was darkness, and when she turned around to look at her captor, all she could make out was the glowing yellow eyes of the creature. She whimpered in fear, but a noise distracted her. Kairi turned her head sharply, her eyes widening when they fell on the love of her life, who just happened to be fighting somebody else she was fooled to fall in love with.

"Sora!" she cried instantly, leaning forward with the cry only to be roughly brought back, the grip on her arms tightening and making her hiss in pain. Kairi's eyes met the beautiful blue pair that were about a hundred feet away, and she saw him take in a breath as if to speak, but it was then that she realized the other boy thrust his sword forrward.

The Sora in her dreams gasped in shock, his hand reaching to grasp the spot in his chest where he had been struck. "No!" Kairi struggled against the bonds on her arms, the claws digging further into her skin as she attempted to move toward Sora. She watched helplessly as he dropped onto his knees and Nathaniel removed his blade. Kairi's eyes met the wide pair she'd grown to love over the years, a cry leaving her lips...

Kairi bolted upright in Sora's bed, her eyes squeezed shut as she let out a scream in terror.

 

Sora's ears immediately registered the scream, the teen bolting upright on the couch and opening his eyes, even though he couldn't see in the darkness. He had been very much asleep, but his heart was racing inside his chest, the brunet recognizing the sharp cry. Kairi. He ignored the aching in his body and pushed himself up off the couch, hurrying towards the hall without thought. He didn't sense any Darkness that could have hurt her, so that left only one other thing that could have caused the cry: a nightmare.

 

Kairi closed her mouth, her eyes opening instead as she stared wide-eyed at the wall in front of her. She breathed heavily from fright, her sight then darting down to the sheets over her. What...was that? She knew it was only a nightmare, but it had been so realistic. That could have happened! The realization made Kairi bright a hand to her face, the girl covering her mouth.

 

Sora walked through the dark hall and opened his bedroom door, seeing Kairi in the dim light. "Kai," he immediately said, walking over to the bed. He could tell by her facial expression that she really had experienced a nightmare, which made his already soft expression turn more gentle. He hated to see her suffer, even if it was something as small as a nightmare. He loved her deeply, and seeing her so frightened made him feel awful.
