Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas stopped when he was back on the first floor, looking back and managing to kick the basement door shut with his foot. He then proceeded into the living room, heading for the fireplace.

 

Namine heard Ty bark once from beside her, which distracted her from trying to reach the lighter. She looked down at him, a quizzical expression on her face. What was that all about? Did he not want her straining herself for something out of reach? She doubted that; Ty was a smart dog, but that idea was pushing it a bit.

 

Roxas made his way across the room and bent down in front of the fireplace, slowly and carefully setting the wood down. He glanced at the fireplace before beginning to stack the wood inside, working quietly.

 

Namine rolled her eyes, scoffing softly. If Ty did bark out of concern, then he was much too protective over her. She could do things without getting injured; it wasn't like she was overly clumsy. She just had awful luck. A sigh left her lips as she stood up on her toes, trying to reach the lighter again.

 

Roxas piled the last piece of firewood on top of the others inside the fireplace, the boy sitting back on his knees. After a short moment of silence, he turned his head to look at the doorway that led toward the kitchen. He expected Namine to have the lighter by now, but she was probably busy whipping up the hot chocolate as well.

 

Namine felt the tip of the lighter touch her fingers when another sensation hit her. Ty literally rammed her legs, bringing her off her toes and away from the object she had been trying so hard to reach. Her eyes widened slightly when Ty hit her legs again, knocking her off her feet. She set her hands on the ground behind her a moment before she felt her bottom touch the hard floor, the fall not being too hard because she caught herself. Ty stood in her lap slightly, and she gave him a confused and slightly frustrated look. What was that all about?

 

Roxas shrugged slightly to himself, turning his head back toward the fireplace. He checked one more time to make sure the wood was all the way in and safely positioned before pushing himself back slightly and sitting down completely on the floor. He would just have to wait for the lighter.

 

"Get off, Ty," Namine ordered, bringing up a hand to the dog's chest. She gently pushed him off of her and then rose to her feet, brushing off her jeans without thought. "What a weird dog," she mumbled, looking at him. "Ty, go play with Roxas." Her loyal companion perked up at the name and headed out of the kitchen in search of his playmate, which allowed the girl to sigh in relief. Now she could have time to reach that lighter.

 

Roxas rubbed the back of his head, but felt a presence behind him. He turned, just in time to see Ty running toward him. Roxas held up his hands instinctively, the dog running into him then. "Whoa! Easy, boy," he said, leaning back slightly from the dog putting his nose in his face. He gently pushed the dog back, but Ty was insistent. He licked at Roxas's face and pushed against him some more, making Roxas smile. "Fine, you wanna play? You're on!" Ty barked in response, and Roxas playfully launched himself at him.

 

Namine performed a small hop, finally reaching the lighter. It was much easier to get it knowing that Ty wouldn't come charging in again. She shrugged slightly at the thought of her dog and his odd behavior as she headed through the entrance hall and into the living room, lighter in hand. She stopped at the doorway, though, seeing what the two boys were up to.

 

By the time Namine reached the room, her presence going unnoticed by Roxas for the time being, he and Ty were playing around. Ty had his butt up in the air and tail wagging excitedly as he stared at Roxas, face down by his paws. Roxas simply smirked before the dog ran forward, but the blond boy caught him and had him in a headlock. Ty whined playfully but then his ears perked, making Roxas's chuckles fade as he followed the dog's gaze. His blue eyes widened slightly, but his grin remained. "Hi, Namine," he greeted. Ty licked under Roxas's chin, making him squeeze one his eyes closed.

 

Namine felt her lips turn up in a smirk, the girl folding her arms across the chest while still holding onto the lighter. "Having fun, boys?" she asked, amusement coming through in her voice. What goofballs, she thought to herself, sky blue eyes on the dog and the blond teen on the floor.

 

Roxas chuckled a few times. "You know, just messin' around!" he said with a smile. His eyes darted down to Ty when he seemed to understand, releasing a bark in agreement.

 

Namine chuckled, shaking her head in disbelief. Ty sure did love Roxas; it was like he considered him his own personal playmate rather than his master's boyfriend. Oh well, as long as everyone was happy. "Obviously," she said with a small smirk. "Hope you guys aren't getting too rough?" At this, she arched a playful brow at Roxas, reminding him subtly that Ty was still recovering from his surgeries.

 

Roxas blinked at the question, his arm that was around Ty's neck coming up to rub over his blond spikes. He chuckled lightly in nervousness. "Nothing to worry about," he promised. Ty supported his statement by licking Roxas's cheek and marching over to his owner.

 

Namine smiled, kneeling down to welcome her dog back over to her side when he reached her. She lightly set a hand on his back, rubbing him lightly before she looked to Roxas. "Can't have my 'favorite' boy getting hurt, can I?" she teased, recalling the conversation she and Roxas had earlier before the tickling first began.

 

Roxas's nerves disappeared and he rolled his eyes, his arm falling back to his side. He shook his head slightly at Namine, a faint smirk on his lips. "You got the lighter?" he asked, changing the subject. He held his hand out for it, motioning for her to just toss it to him so he could get the fire started.

 

Namine nodded at the question, rising her feet despite Roxas' motion for her to throw it. She took a few steps over and lightly set it in his hand, speaking as she performed the action. "Ty would have lunged for it if I threw it," she explained, glancing over her shoulder at her excitable pet. He would have mistaken it for a chew toy, and then things would have ended very badly for both her pet and for the lighter that surely would have been destroyed.

 

Roxas grimaced, glancing at the dog a few feet back. "Right," he agreed softly, looking up at Namine once more before turning around. He flipped the cap of the lighter open and used his thumb to engage the small flame. He leaned forward, being careful as he brought the flame to the firewood. In just a few seconds it reacted. Roxas leaned back as flames began to lick at the wood, the boy shutting the top of the lighter.

 

Namine left Roxas to the fire, stepping around her dog as she headed back to the kitchen. She hadn't even started on the hot chocolate yet, and the longer she was without it, the more she craved the beverage. She was still feeling a bit cold, despite the heat being on in her home. She shrugged slightly at the realization and went into the kitchen, grabbing mugs and the hot chocolate mix as she began preparing the drinks.
