Kingdom Hearts II Fan-service in KH2?

I might be the last person in the world to find out, a friend and I were being dumb with KH2 by doing random things and trying out abilities I didn't use yet before we fight Xemnas for the 4th time today (just for fun). Just when we got near Kairi her dog tug on the cable and the controller fell on the floor. When I picked up the controller my friend told me to look at the screen and there was a awkward angle viewing up Kairi's skirt. The one thing I noticed was..... Kairi has very detailed underwear with a very detailed red ribbon. I swear this was 100% accidental Im not a pervert :rockdoversad:
I have no idea if Square thought we wouldn't find out about Kairi's underwear but in a way they got away with it. I guess if ESRB found out they would have to remove that angle or make Kairi's skirt longer in order for KH2 to stay in the E10 rating(or it would have been rated T).

 

My take is just that Square are very thorough in their character designs. Also, a lot of people know about it, i don't know where I read about it the first time, probably kh13 or something.
Anyway, as I mentioned, it's probably just Square being thorough. I don't doubt there's a naked Kairi character model in Square's HQ.

 

Hmm, that's interesting. I've played through the game a ton of times, and never really noticed that angle. Are you by any chance talking about the point when she's running away from Siax and meets with Riku?
But Square usually does everything very efficiantly, so I'm pretty sure there's different pictures of Kairi with each stage of her clothes

 

Nah, just standing around. You can do it at the Alter of Naught if you have an endgame file.


Basically it is just being in depth. No I don't think it merits a greater rating. I mean it says something that it is rare enough to be brought up like this.

Basically they build the character from the ground up they start with what looks almost like a mannequin, dress it up (including underwear), and then remove everything that isn't on the outside layer to save space. Since Kairi wears a skirt her underwear happens to be included in that outside layer.


Two others that I know off hand to also do this are Selphie and Jane in KH1. Unlike the first poster I have to say that I know those because of being a pervert.

 

I think Square just likes being detailed. There's an article that mentions someone putting a lot of work into the underwear of Final Fantasy: Type-0's female characters

 

I thought it said that they did that because they wanted to get more realistic. I read on an article that they were originally going to just leave it as a black hole and put nothing there.

 

Putting work into something means that they want it to be more realistic. The more detailed something is the more it adds to its realism (In games, at least)

I remember finding the texture for Kairi's underwear. I even made a thread about it too.

Probably just very good modelling i guess. I mean, square's kinda good at that stuff. I didn't notice this suprisingly, but i suppose it's better than her wearing no underwear at all XD

Never heard of any other instances like this though, fairly sure it doesn't happen in RE CoM.

 

This also happens in Birth By Sleep. Tinkerbell wears pink underwear. So you know, I can understand covering it up, but couldn't they just place a shadow or something? It's not like people would normally look at it.

Well the Tinkerbell bit seems a bit invalid. Tinkerbell is known for doing flips, being knocked around, etc. that ends up with underwear shots. I'm hardly big into Peter Pan but the only case of Tinkerbell I can think of that had noticably lower number of those is Hook, which I'm sure had to do with the live acting involved.

 

I don't know if I would consider either service to be fan service but I guess this is one of those YMMV situations. In my opinion, seeing a 16 year old girl's panties is kind of...squick. Keep in mind that I'm considered a young adult but I suppose to a 16 year old, it might be the icing on the cake. As I said, YMMV. [Your Mileage May Vary for the uninformed.] Same goes for the Tinkerbell instance, I never really regarded her as fanserve-y. Since I was a young child when I first saw Peter Pan and I associate her with fond childhood memories not something to ignite certain flames.
