How do you fail a subject in school?

All you have to do is study, pass tests and listen during class.

So many students in my grade are failing science, math, social studies, language, english and even music!

    Here's what I think:

Some people are just lazy, they don't study or try hard on tests. Or they never complete assignments, cause they feel it's pointless since they can ace tests without trying.

I also know people that do all their work, study, and attend class. Their only problem is that they get nervous during tests, resulting in a grade that doesn't match their efforts.

Well, I have problems with motivation, that's why I didn't do the homework. I wasn't motivated enough to.

It's possible to fail even if you turn in everything. You can't weigh academic success simply by turning **** in. If it isn't quality, that is what makes you fail.

I get B's and C's on most work, but ace most tests. For some reason tests show more knowledge than the grunt work, so w/e.

I think that grades should be measured by effort. There's the kids that do all their work, and don't have to study too much to pass -- like me. But then there are others who try who don't get the grade they deserve. And then there's just the lazy. But I think that the kids who are coming for extra help during free periods and are attempting their assignments should get better grades. In most of my classes (aside from maybe art), participation only counts for 10% of your grade. I disagree with that; I think it should be at least 15%-30%.

But I agree, I don't understand it how people just are so lazy that they can't be bother doing some of their assignments or trying in classes.

How is class participation graded? Stuff like this should be known, so that you know what the teachers expect from you.

If it's graded how I think it is, kids that are more outgoing would receive a higher grade in participation than kids that are a bit shy.

There are some really shy kids at my school (me included), that quietly listen to lessons and do well written work. For them to speak up during a discussion would be against their nature. Forcing themselves to speak to try to impress the teacher may make them uncomfortable.

I'm not sure why other people do, but I only fail becuase of busy work. I can't stand getting homework just so I can keep "busy".
When I understand something, why do 30 more problems to prove I already knew something when I could have done 10 with the same result?

Well I'm out of school, but I think it's the lack
    of potential from a student./:

    Some people just don't try.
I failed biology last year because of being absent a lot and getting a ****-load of work to do and not having the time to do it.

I'm proud to say I'm not a nerd, I've never failed a subject, grade or paper!
I heard these to 7th graders talking about how this boy FAILED ART last year.
I was thinking,"How the heck do you FAIL ART?! You just draw pictures!
And our art teacher knows some people's thing is not art, like my brother.
