But there (technically) already is CFW. I installed it about an hour ago. It adds the "install PKG files" and some other "/PS3_GAME" thing. KaKaRoTo or someone did it, if I'm correct.

I wouldn't consider that a real CFW. True, it is a modded one, but it contains no useful features at all. It can't even bypass the signature check to run homebrew yet. It simply has a option for looks basically at this point.

http://kotaku.com/5731200/sony-fires-back-at-playstation-3-hackers Just wanted to leave this here. There's some other links to documents in that article as well.

Anyways, my reaction was "Hell yeah!" I'm rather happy that Sony is taking legal action. If those guys really wanted to screw around with the PS3 so badly and then release information to the public they should've just gotten jobs at Sony. The PS3 was the last gaming console that I considered to be "legit" until it was hacked. That obviously opens the doors to some pretty bad things that hurt the gaming industry. Knowing Sony, I think they'll have their way.

Sony's not going to win. They didn't do anything illegal. All they did was find flaws in the PS3. They did not release ANY tools to support piracy. They made it clear that it was just for homebrew.

Ah, the usual Sony tactic. They did it to Gleem! and to Lik-sang. Just sue the offenders until they run out of cash, even if there's no chance of winning the suit.

I doubt it'll work as well this time, as they're dealing with individuals, and not companies.

Doesn't matter. The door has been opened, and no matter how much they prosecute, they won't be able to close them again. The keys are out.

So prosecuting them really won't help at all.

Lol Sony will hit at the core of technologic piracy and be a major winner in the fight against the evil hackers.
But they won't do anything to their PS3s, they can't.

Everyone's freaking out about piracy (Sony), yet George made his jailbreak "piracy-disabled," basically. I mean, yeah, it'll probably happen, but he did nothing worth getting sued for. My opinion.

    I hope he wins.

It already has happened but Geohot and fail0verflow had nothing to do with it and most games don't work yet.

Yeah up until now the PS3 was basically a fortress. I don't think anyone is to "blame" here. This kind of stuff just happens.

To be honest, they can easily fix online games. Not Sony, but the devs. True, everything they try to do to fix it though will just get busted if some loser is wanting to cheat -so- badly at a game online (any patch they give us to update their code can still be changed via ASM hacks). But still, devs shouldn't give up. Atleast attempt to prevent cheating, if it gets busted, move on. Me being a mediocre programmer, I can already see how a fix can easily be implemented into online gun games (just as a example). Or Sony could charge for PSN, which would eliminate 90% of the cheating pirates. Either way, their is no solution that isn't fool-proof. Measures can still be taken though, unless devs are incredibly lazy or don't care at all for their past games.

Or Sony could step their game up and ban people with a hacked console. I honestly don't care for online gaming. I'm sure they are waiting for the court to decide if jailbreaking gaming consoles is illegal before dropping the ban hammer though. To be honest, i'm almost sure geohot will lose this court case. The iphone has hardly no reason to be locked down to one service provider. They still have to pay for phone service regardless who their service provider is. So of course the courts saw no problem there. Gaming consoles? No. You get it all for free.

Sony's lawsuit against PlayStation 3 hacker George Hotz has been delayed over a question of whether the case should even be tried in a California court.

That's the thing, hacking your system isn't going to affect a game. Not many people even do hack online games; the last I heard of a game getting hacked terribly was on MW1(?) for the 360. So far there's been reports of MW2 (I guess, I don't look the stuff up), which is quite the popular game. And other companies could probably patch it and stop (most of) the hacking. I can understand Sony doing that if they have proof that someone is hacking a game, or pirating a game. But just for jailbreaking your console AND NOT doing either? No. Locking a jailbroken PS3 user out of PSN seems like enough to me, just like CFW on a PSP.
