So I'm looking at my Facebook news feed, and I see an ad that was never there before (it wasn't an official Facebook ad) and I see two green buttons to customize or delete my layout. I think this is a new feature and click on it. It turns out it's an unofficial Facebook layout app. The ad is for cursors and junk and they host the ad through my facebook profile.I check to see how I can get rid of it, and it says I have to uninstall a program from the control panel, one that I never installed. So I look at my control panel and there is the program Yontoo and it says it was installed Jan 1st 2012. I never installed this program and I have no idea how it got there. It is the program that enables Pagerage. Nobody has been using my computer. Can somebody tell me what the hell is going on? EDIT: Apparently, I'm not the only with the problem. I did a quick Google search and it showed the preview for the question on Yahoo Questions. The guy said it "just appeared" on his, just like it did for me, but the question was deleted because of their community guidelines. it wasn't specific as to why it was deleted. It's the only other thing I could find of a person with a similar circumstance.
I would recommend scanning your computer for any viruses, adware, spyware, malware, etc. Scan with your typical anti-virus, if that doesn't fix it try Malwarebytes. I've not seen anything like that on Facebook, and while it DID just go public (and that means more ads), it's a bit too soon for changes.
That's a good idea. Also, I just uninstalled the program and the pagerage app and ads are still up.I gave no idea how to get rid of it. And I tried disabling it here: http://www.pagerage.com/disable/ It's still there. I am really annoyed.
You can delete/install the program but it's still most likely to be hidden somewhere inside your files or your registry keys. I suggest trying what Misty said and download Malwarebytes. Give it a full scan (which could take a while) and delete any problems the scanner finds.
So, I restarted my computer, and it's gone. Problem solved. There was no virus. I'm still unsure of how the program and app got there, but if it happens again or if something similar occurs, I'll look into it deeper at that point. For now, I'm just glad it's nothing serious. This thread can be locked now. Thanks everybody.
