    Terrorist action.

    Two people confirmed dead.
I'll update this post as I get more information.

    7 Patients in the hospital.
Several others are injured due to shattered glass.

They are more and more certain it is terrorism, carbomb.

It's the worse thing to happen in Norway since WWII

More people suspected dead, but not confirmed.

IS IS CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS INDEED A BOMB.

    More Pictures http://www.vg.no/bildespesial/spesial.php?id=8405

Very little information on who is injured.
The bomb went off in the governmental area of Oslo, where many people of the government work, which is why this would be a target.

Thankfully, many had left their office, and many are on vacation. The bomb went off somewhere in between 3.20 and 3.30PM

Gardermoen Airport is still open, but there are armed guards (most likely millitant) that checks departures and arrivals.

The police is currently evacuating other possible targets if there are other bombs.

It's likely the bomb was in a van, because the explosion was large and it points to an open air explosion. (in other words, not a planted bomb)

Waiting for the press conference. 5.30PM is when its supposed to start, but i'll cover it as good as I can.
Not possible to calculate the damages
It's very chaotic as of now.
    2 people confirmed dead
    15 people Injured
Calling in all available officers, including the ones on vacation.
They can't confirm that it was a carbomb, only an explosion.
They want to try to find out the motive
There was no warning ahead of time, no one have claimed responsibility either.
No theory of who's behind it.
The situation is not clarified, too soon to have a theory about what really happened.
They are asking for Witnesses & Tips, Observations; ergo, they don't have much information.
    Searching buildings
Far away from having an overview
    People should avoid large gatherings
    People should Go straight home
Investigation entirely in the starting phase.
There are ambulances coming in from several surrounding areas
The prime minister along with other people are secured.
The Chief of Police was very repetitive.
They don't wish to confirm that it is a terrorist attack
The main concern is to save lives.
Stay inside, don't be outside because of worst case scenario
The situation is still in progress
New press conference in 1 hour, and they wish to keep it up on a regular basis.
    (A general summary)

    ADDITIONAL INFO:
There has been a shooting at AUF's (The Youth Labourparty) meeting. A man dressed up in a police-like uniform
claimed there was a routinecheck due to the attack. I don't know whether or not that person has been caught.

    This shooter has been apprehendedCONFIRMED
    -------------------------------------

In building R4, there are more deceased. The Police won't release the number yet, but they have confirmed that there are deceased in the building now.

There are speculations that this was Al-Qaeda, because of the AUF shooting happened more or less simultaneously as the explosion. Al-Qaeda has done this before, and this is the background of this speculation

10 dead from the AUF shooting, several injured

The amount of deceased we have been told is 7. This is supposedly in Oslo.

According to NY Times, "A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism."

There is now a new bomb threat, aimed at the airport express train. <- Unsure about this one No mention of this, there was a suspicious item on board, no further info.

    The man apprehended is Norwegian

There are found undetonated explosives on the island, and as far as I have been informed they will stay undetonated. The police is now thoroughly searching through the island to look for survivors and more deceased. As of now, Midnight, the Count at the island is now 10.

There are now 84 deceased at the youth camp. The number will most likely rise as the search continues

God, I always thought Oslo would be pretty much the last place things like this would happen... Honestly, that makes me a bit scared.
I'm glad to see that the police and other rescue personnel seem to be working pretty well, even if they don't have more details about the explosions...
My condolences to the ones who lost their lives, the wounded, and their families. I hope that there aren't any more casualties.

Most people wouldn't expect it, but it just proves that we were not prepared for this. Norway has been threatened before, due to charicatures, and I for one did expect something similar to this happen. It's a tradgedy.

BBC is saying that the shooting has left several dead, but that the gunner has been caught. But they also mentioned that they're unconfirmed reports...

The CBC (Canada) has been saying that 7 people are confirmed dead from the explosion, and 9 are confirmed dead from the shooting. I wouldn't bet money on that being completely accurate, but still. It's just really hard to believe. It's left so many people in a state of shock.

7 is correct in Oslo. There are at least 10 killed from the shooting, but there are many injured and missing. Most of the missing have most likely drowned.

I was really proud of our Prime Minister's speech about not being controlled by fear and terror, people should really check that out.

I felt that was quite a powerful speech. I didn't hear all of it, I was only able to find quotes from it. Is there a link to a place where I can watch/read all of it?

Why Norway? I love it, and it shouldn't be treated like this. This will not end well for Norway as a whole let alone Oslo. Makes me wonder about Cocohints, haven't heard from her in a very long time...

Maybe I'm going into a bit of a conspiracy theory when I say this but to me the real target was the youths. The bombing was really low on the casualties, when really it should be effective in killing many people. It caused confusion mainly, which led to the gunman to gain access to the camp, he was very direct to go straight to the camp to kill the youths.
A gunman means precision, a target in mind. If anything the bomb wasn't the real threat but the distraction in order to allow the gunman access to kill his targets. And if that's true it was a very professional operation. That's worrying indeed.

But I'm just over thinking a tragic situation.

The death toll is 87 now, I just saw it on CNN. A real tragedy, my thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their friends and family.

At least 84 (Updated 9.06AM Norway) people are killed in shootings at a youth camp only hours after a massive bomb blast in central Oslo.

One man has been arrested after the shooting and police see a connection between the two attacks. The suspect is of Norwegian nationality, confirms Norwegian Minister of Justice Knut Storberget.

Several sources confirm; the detainee is Anders Behring Breivik, 32. From the information they have published, he was a political extremist.

Late friday night, special forces raided Breiviks apartement in Oslo.

    Youth camp

The first reports of shootings on Utøya, an island outside of Oslo, came around 18.25 PM Friday night.

According to a witness the gunman identified himself as a police officer before he started killing people.

Almost 700 young members of the Labour Party was at the island for a youth camp.

Police now confirms that at least 80 people are killed in the shootings at the island.

Police also said they found explosives on the island.

    Explosion

This came only hours after a bomb exploded in a government building in central Oslo at 3.30 PM Friday afternoon.

The explosion killed at least seven people and ten people are seriously injured in the blast, confirms police.

A fake police officer was also seen at this scene.

Surrounding buildings was also affected by the attack. The bomb exploded close to Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's office. He was not at his office and has not been injured.

Several blocks around the bomb are still evacuated and people are asked to stay away from the city centre.

Premier: - You will not destroy us

    - We will find those responsible and hold them accountable, said the Norwegian Prime Minster Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference late Friday.

He also has a message to the people behind the attacks

    - You will not destroy us. You will not destroy our democracy or our ideals for a better world.

    Don't worry, Coco is fine.

I'm watching the news right now, they are saying that at least 91 people died. I wish people like Anders would feel the need to take things into his own hands.

This is horrible, nobody in my family or anyone I know are dead, but my condolences and thoughts all go out to the families. This is the worst thing to have happened to our country since WWII

This is horrible. Why do these things even happen? I just switched to the news immediately and I'm listening it. I hope justice is served to the terrorists and criminals and that nothing wrong happens anymore. This just makes me so sad right now. Seriously, just why would people resort to this? An explosion, a massacre. And at a youth camp at that! I've never been to one, but I'd love to - and I still do and God, I can't even imagine how those in the youth camp must have felt. Expecting happiness and fun, instead getting that. The deepest condolences for the friends and families of the deceased. Sending prayers to everyone right now, no one deserves any of this. I hope Norway is okay.

Well, that's good to know at least.

The worse enemy is always from within. But because of political viewpoints? Just despicable to kill in the name of your extremism. 80 killed at the campsite by one man? That's unbelievaby cruel. And deeply saddening.

This whole event is terrible. Especially the attack on the youth camp. It's terrifying how one person can kill so many people. I just read a story this morning of a girl who was there and hid behind the very rock the shooter was standing on...how horrifying that must've been. I send my thoughts and prayers out to the families who are affected by this and Norway as a whole.

84 and more missing to be exact.

And yes, it's due to politics and religious (christian) fundamentalism. He's against the (very) high amount of immigrants we let in to the country.
