This is the Debate Section. Therefore, opinions are welcome, so long as you have evidence to back it up.

So...where exactly did she find this bio? If it's Wikipedia, then that's automatically nullified.
You also must remember what time Darwin lived: a time where God was the highest authority, and Darwin dared to question it.
    BUT!
When Darwin's daughter died at a young age, he started to falter in his belief in God. He wondered why God would take such a young person away, and that's when he started his attempt to publish his theories.

I do not think that is a middle ground theory at all. Whether God exists or not is a religious belief and personal choice. It is not involved with science at all as there is no way at this time to prove the existence of God or not. You can dispute till the end of time whether God exists or whether the Flying Spaghetti Monster is real. It doesn't matter as it is all opinion. However, I have a hard time saying a dinosaur didn't exist, or a Neanderthal or Lucy etc because I've held the fossils and investigated them. So really in the end, what you are saying is to force a religious view on people and that is not -fact- at all. It is real to those who believe and not real to those who don't. Regardless of a person's choice of religious belief or not, genetics are very real so again, someone -can- be religious and still believe in Evolution. There is a difference here between a choice to believe in a story that is given by humans versus real evidence you can touch.

If you choose to believe in God and Evolution, that is your theory and there's nothing wrong with it but it is hardly a middle ground theory when you say that without scientific proof, everyone should buy into it. Sorry to say it that way, but that's just the way it is. Not everyone is a Christian and as I said before, if people believe in any religion, they may take it that someone else other than God spurned on life, such as Brahma.

That is a deception brought about by a religious woman called Lady Hope who declared she was at the deathbed of Darwin. She was never there and the daughter of Darwin, Henrietta, disputed this audacious claim but yet still Christian groups continue to try to say it is true.

    http://www.cincinnatiskeptics.org/blurbs/darwin-deathbed.html

This is a site with some information and there are several out there that dispute this claim. I will side with the daughter, Henrietta, in the truth on this matter rather than some woman who was out to be vicious and declare something in order to protect a religion, which simply again, didn't need these acts to do so.

It is not unheard of for people on their deathbed to repent and suddenly become Christian. They fear death and fear the consequences that might come to pass if they don't. Darwin was just one case of this. Also there is a stage in the death process called 'bargaining' which is just as they sound. They think if they make a deal that they will have more time, that they can somehow put off their death and live.

I asked for your knowledge to see if you could back up your claims. I've seen the evidence for Evolution but I'm afraid I haven't seen more than faith on the Creationist side. Faith is all well and good but it doesn't win debates with skeptics like myself.

I heard that too. I also heard from my friend's dad that, when he died, he said, "My work is unfounded." (Darwin)

It's just so funny when everyone treats Evolution like the polar opposite of Christianity (or even religion). Evolution is just a way to observe natural phenomena in life. Not how it started, not how it will end, but how it PROGRESSES. You can be the most faithful, openhearted Christian and trust Darwin's theory. It doesn't matter because Darwin's theory is based off of little theories that pile into one huge theory. Natural selection is what PROVES Evolution. Evolution is just the final way of getting it out.

Whether or not some parts of Evolution are true, Natural selection is still true and it holds sharp. It's been experimented with. Hell, I tested it in a high school bio lab last year with planting pea's. We predicted the ratio for green, yellow and cream colored pea's being produced in the experiment.

*cough* anyway, stop making it sound like this folks. Evolution is a scientific justification for use to SCIENTIFICALLY prove how life started. Evolution has nothing to do with how life started and thus is pointless to disprove.

There is one point, however, that if there ever was a creature that mutated to be perfectly stable in all habitats, it would completely debunk Darwin's theory because it would not need to change anymore. But that hasn't happened quite yet (noticeably, anyway).

If you didn't want to start any arguments in the DEBATE section, then you should not have even posted here in the first place. =/

Usually debates are not friendly conversations. Very rarely is it friendly. It can be calm but it's sort of like an organized argument. If you hate argueing, then why come into this section in the first place like Darkwatch pointed out? Yes I realize about 96% of the forum is looking to make friends with everyone but this isn't the place to come and do this. Also, if you think it's 'dumb' why bother posting in something you think is 'dumb'?

    Self-defeating much?

You seem like a nice person, but if someone disagrees with a post you make, such as the lie scenario about Darwin confessing, this is a debate and people are going to draw out the truth and go back and forth. It's nothing against you, Queen. Most of us do tend to get along here and around the board, but we also are here in this section to debate some of the issues that happen out there and react to each other's debates. It's not meant to be that we make -enemies-. It's meant that we broaden our horizons, view each other's opinions and see if we grow and change or if we are more sure of what we feel.

Taking a debate personally means you probably shouldn't post here. If you can take some jabs at your thoughts and ideals, remain. If you can't, then don't, but in the end that's what it comes down to. You won't make enemies as long as you are a 'polite' debater and not like some people that were rude and obnoxious. Just don't take it to heart when someone says you are mistaken or they say 'no' and counter you to get more answers out of you or responses. That's what debating is. We're really not -that- bad. (Maybe we are).

Well the Bible doesn't blatantly come out and say "God created the earth this many years ago." It's all interpretations from priests and Jesus freaks. None of these interpretations are necessarily correct, and since all theistic religions believe that God has lived since the beginning of time, if you're going to look at it from a theistic stand point, He could have created it at any time, so all of the assumptions made about the year the earth was made based on the Bible could be wrong. One of the several reasons I believe in creationism and evolution.

i really dont' know about religion but i thot they said that God created everything and it was ONLY Jesus that didnt' exist for more than a few thousand years. i thot that people believed that God created the Earth too? but then again, i do understand that the reason ppl dont' like the middle ground is because that would mean believing in a God that they just dont' believe in.
well, i prefer calm friendly debates actually, i try to respect people's opinions and i POLITELY tell them if what i think doesn't make sense and in turn expect ppl to do the same. i thot the difference between a debate and argument is that a debate is more organized and calmer? i not sure. but some of the ppl in the Debate Corner really need to chill, cuz some of them flip out on you just for stating your opinion.

Well to be entirely specific, in the Bible (Book of Genesis as well as Psalms specifically), it does say things like "And so God put the Earth on it's foundations; it was not to be moved." Showing that he put the Earth on a "foundation" where it will be for eternity. However, an interpretation of this would quickly be debunked, because as we know, the Earth revolves around a point (the Sun). Therefore it is not unmovable.

    That is true.

And also, the Bible says that God created the Earth in seven days. Considering how long it takes for mountains to form and rivers to carve out canyons, this is impossible.

I saw an interesting thing on Animal Planet a few days ago on the show "Corwin's Quest". Jeff was following a group of chimpanzees (and for those that don't know, humans and chimps have 98% of the same genes) and watching their eating habits. They ate mostly fruit, but soon they went on a hunt. Groups of chimps went up in trees and some were on the ground, basically trapping smaller monkeys in the tree. The small monkey tried to run, and one chimp reached out and grabbed it by the tail. After a brief struggle, the chimps killed the monkey and proceeded to eat it.
Why am I saying this? Because this behavior is similar to early humans. Working in groups, hunting, cornering prey, then kill and eat it. Sure, most of us don't do this anymore, but it shows that chimps and humans likely had a common ancestor.
