Wait, THAT'S what you wanted me to fix? Hate to break it to you but there's no fixing to be had. Language changes over time. It's a force of billions of people as a collective. You don't stop or fix that. All you can do is go to those niche groups and use those words, and link to a dictionary when someone tries to be a smartass about your use oft he word

I can point out that the problem with the change to as many people as possible.

I have no intention of letting language degenerate to the point of equivocation.

The majority are flat out wrong to try.

Well I understand not wanting it to happen or not going along with it happening, or even trying to fight it, but asking people to fix it? It's not something that can be fixed. It's arguable that it's not even something that NEEDS to be fied. The appropriation and evolution of language is as old as language.

    I'm not asking.

I'm correcting them when they say it is fine the way it is.

Evolution is not the problem. This is not natural selection. This is degeneration due to babying. There are not enough people like me to cull the fold. The very concepts are fading from memory. People will forget that game as in game theory ever was a thing, and we will not have a new word for it. They will erase the very idea from our culture using the language.

That is a horrible crime. People are naturally tending to Newspeak. If you do not understand why that is a problem, I don't know what to say to you. There will come a time when you can't even think of something because you don't have words for it. On that day, you will know what I mean.

I'm split, honestly. It pissed me off in High School listening to people complain about how different words were pointless because they all meant the same thing. But new language stuff has value. Like emoticons. As far as I'm concerned, emoticons make for FAR more effective punctuation than what we call the standard. Using a bunch of simple, and easily recognizable shapes that represent basic emotions gives a huge range of context that a period or question mark doesn't really provide.
So I'm of two minds on your view. I do definitely dislike seeing basic language atrophy, but I think words, especially new words, should be expected to mutate like the words video game is right now.

New definitions may arise... But not at the cost of old ones. It is only courteous and respectful to use new words for new concepts instead of appropriating old words.

We must not forget where we came from... For many reasons.

Okay, I can fully get behind that. History is vital, whatever it's about. That's honestly why I don't get why so many people mock Latin. It seems incredibly valuable to understand that so many words in so many languages share the same basic root

There is only one exception to this rule that I like, simply because it's hilarious.

    bul·ly [bool-ee]

    noun, plural bul·lies
    1. a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people.
    2. Archaic. a man hired to do violence.
    3. Obsolete. a pimp; procurer.
    4. Obsolete. good friend; good fellow.
    5. Obsolete. sweetheart; darling.

verb (used with object), bul·lied, bul·ly·ing
    6. to act the bully toward; intimidate; domineer.

verb (used without object), bul·lied, bul·ly·ing
    7. to be loudly arrogant and overbearing.

    adjective
    8. Informal. fine; excellent; very good.
    9. dashing; jovial; high-spirited.

    interjection
    10. Informal. good! well done!

So...did anyone have anything to say about my fragmented post? ._.

Why does he "need to know you well enough"? His post makes sense and is easily applicable, not to mention actually politely worded. Familiarity shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether you respect what he's saying or not (though I am glad you are keeping the feedback in mind)

It all made sense. No problems here.

If I were going to extend the definition to be more complete, I would define a game as something with a true plateau of greatness. A game is a true game if it has been designed such that it can be perfected or played for ever better 'scores', so to speak.

Notice the difference between gameplay and storytelling. Under my definition, stories add flavor to games rather than the other way around.

For example, take Final Fantasy X.

Blitzball is a game. Individual battles are games. What makes these things 'Final Fantasy X' is a story, not a game. You could strip out all of the dialogue and cutscenes and you would have the game part of the experience. If you took out the skill-based interactive parts, you would have a visual book. They are two different things and the whole things together is visualbookwithgamingelements or gamewithvisualbookelements. It is neither a true game nor a visual book.

I believe that most of the things we might say are Not Games have gaming elements, but there is a distinction to be made whether it be to specify that it is not a game or some other modifier.
