    Ever thought this?

I always thought I should've gone to high school in the 80's. I've always thought the clothing style were much more original and cool, my favorite bands are Judas Priest, Megadeth and Metallica. Technology wasn't great, but they didn't really know the difference. I hate texting, also, back then, you didn't have to worry about computer viruses, you could record the radio, among other things. Though the cars weren't that great, these are all things I wish I could have been around for. I know there's positives and negatives to both eras, but I'd rather live back then than now.

    What do you think?

i used to believe it was who you were in your past life influenced things like that, thats a theory held completely by opinion or coincidence though.

I've always wanted to live in the 80s cause.. .its the 80s! Its just a time where people were really becoming different. Plus its the time video games where first made. I'd love to live in that time.

I kinda get this but less extreme. In my year at high school, I share common ground with absolutely no-one. However, in the year above me, there's LOADS of people I can relate too. I wish I was born like 6 months earlier.

Either the 90s, because they were awesome, or the Modernist/Postmodernist periods, because they knew how to use the dissonance.

I do actually think that sometimes, I'll hear about something or read about something and feel like I belong more THEN than I do NOW. I was born in the 80's (1987) but I never really got to experience it, and that frustrates me because it sure looked a lot of fun. That being said growing up in the 90's was pretty fun too :B

D: whaaaaaaaat? The 80's had some great cars, no way in hell can you deny that.

Sometimes I think so. I think it would been interesting to have been a teen in the 60's, but I also feel that I am so caught up in this generation and time, whether it be through technology, music, politics, t.v. shows, etc, that I would also be extremely unhappy.

I only prefer back then since it didn't have as much technology for my crimes to be commited.
I find both eras fine, it's just back then, there was more interesting action. As for now, the same thing is repeatedly said on the news.

In a number of ways, yes. Let me come out straight with this, most of my generation is quite dull and dim in more ways than one. I suppose this can be said with other generations depending on your perspectives, but simply I tire of these melodramatic fools and conformists that litter this generation.

Out of every generation, I suppose I would feel the most at home in the Twenties or Thirties as a few of you would expect. I suppose it is due to the sort of slowly discovering and accepting mindset of the people along with the certain human social culture and art forms of music and contemporary "painted" art that dominated the era. Granted, with my - and our generation in general's - extreme reliance on technology, I would have to get used to a great number of things.

Yea, kind of. I think I was born about a thousand years too early. I mean, the technology we have right now is great, but I just wish we had so much more. I wanna go to other planets, damnit! :D

Is there a "too far"? I mean, yes, if we go too fast or too recklessly, we could end up doing serious damage to ourselves or our planet(s), but as long as technology is used responsibly, I can't really see a "too far".

I suppose sometimes I could wish I were born in a 'simpler' time but in the end when I look at the times individually, there were things going on then that I'd rather be glad I missed too.

i.e. In the past there was less equality of gender, ethnics, acceptance of gays, tolerating of religious views etc. It's still not perfect and I feel there's a long way to go but it's better now than it was as more of us become more aware and we genuinely care.

I do like things like some older mopar cars and the music of the past, expressions people had and such but I can have those today, and having them makes me feel more connected to things and also I get something unique. Computer issues can be a problem but at the same time, growing up, it was never so easy to communicate with someone from another country as it is now. We can actually deliberate with people of other countries, ask about their leaders, cultures etc and learn far more than people could ever before. Yes, we meet some idiots as well from other places but we generally have the convenience of being able to delete lame spam mail and ignoring users who are asswipes. Texting and cell phones everywhere can also be kind of annoying. I'm 26 so I grew up before it was a big deal and it can seem so rude that some people will be on the phone or texting all the time everywhere, to include when you are trying to talk to them. It's like some people have given up talking to people face to face for this more fake interaction or assume I'm going to just stand around and wait for them to get done with something else while I'm bored. It's like texting someone can't wait when real life is going on around the person.

In the end though, I guess I'm happier to be here in this time though I would love the chance to have been able to live in other various times just to see what it was like for people of the past since I love history and anthropology. This time enables me to be able to explore readily other times and also be a part of the future and to try to make a difference and also I really do love the fact we don't have to mail people in other countries and states to have 'penpals' when online you can actually make true friends. So, though I can ponder the notion, it's all good, because no time is going to be perfect.

I think, I seem more old fashioned and more simple minded than other people at my school.

Most people at school text non stop as i just think it is pretty much pointless, since talking is just as good.
and I like the 80s,70s songs better than all whats happening now.
and i do like the style back then, well except those godawful yarn sweaters with cats on them.

Sure, I can think of previous generations I'd like to be a part of. I might feel that I belong in another. However, I am also scared that I'd be terribly disenchanted if I actually ended up in that setting.
I'd be on the first row to explore another generation (there are many that interest me) but I'm equally happy with this one. I don't feel singled out or anything.

There's a Debate Corner thread on this, guys. Just saying.

Yes. I want to live in an age even more technologically advanced than this one. I want to be in the age that looks back with distaste on when memory sticks were but a few gigs big.

I wish I was my age now, but 20 years earlier. that means I would have experienced and remembered the '80s and '90s
