Rebuild makes them better IMO. The problems are still there, and they're still just aspects of Anno's psychosis, but they're from a different period. The NGE versions were from when Anno was in the middle of depression. He didn't get out of it then, so likewise, it was inescapable for them too, no matter how hard they tried. (They came close, only for Anno to drop more and more bombshells onto them.) This time around, they're from the point where Anno has fought through his illness, so he can display their characters to their fullest, including their recovery, unlike before, when he only knew how to write their problems.

So they're still a medium for Anno's problems, but since he has a wider view of his depression than previously, this time including recovery, they're more likely to be displayed as people. So far, that seems to have happened in Rebuild. You should check it out.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the planet who enjoyed the TV-series ending more than End of Evangelion.

People prefer EoE because it finishes up the story, while ep25-ep26 don't really do anything to the plot. :/

(I realize I'm responding to this a bit late, but please bear with me) How is that more badass? He did practically the same in the show (except if you mean the part where
he seems to be in control of the "berserking" Eva
    .)

Yea, it's mostly because Shinji seems to be in control of everything in Rebuild. In the anime, Shinji begs for the EVA to turn back on and after having its chest nearly ripped off, it goes berserk and it's left unclear whether Shinji is controlling the EVA or if it's his mother doing everything for him like the other times. In Rebuild, Shinji doesn't beg, he just forces the EVA back on through sheer force of will because he wants Rei back that much. I also thought, that in this battle, Shinji finally fought for a cause that he actually wanted to fight for, not because he sought someone's approval or because someone manipulated his sense of duty.

In the series, he breaks down in sobs, begging the EVA to move. Eventually mummy takes pity on him and beats Zeruel to a pulp, eating it.

In the anime, there is no sobbing, snivelling or begging. Instead, his balls grow ten times larger as he reactivates the EVA by sheer willpower, quickly subdues Zeruel using a combination of AT Fields and laser beams, and finally dives into Zeruel's core himself, in order to take action and rescue Rei of his own will. That's significantly more badass than whining until his mother beats the enemy for him. Also, there's something more stylish about using psychic abilities to dominate your foe, as opposed to grotesquely eating them.

You also have to remember that he was willing to bring about Third Impact purely to get what he wanted. This, coming from the boy who spent the majority of EoE being dragged around by Misato due to critical motivation failure, is a massive deal.

@P Well, it's a matter of preference I guess. Though it seemed more like yelling in frustration than sobbing to me.
Also, beast/berserk Eva is still cooler :B|:

EDIT: And, uh, I guess I'm kind of getting off-topic. This thread was really just supposed to answer wether or not Evangelion was worth watching, wasn't it?

Well it's not really off-topic. The main focus of the thread is still Evangelion. It's just become more a discussion thread for the series in general and less of whether or not Evangelion is worth watching. Good place for the fans of the series to discuss things and pitch theories since an Evangelion thread hasn't been made in years.

Been wondering lately, has the announcement date or anything been announced about Rebuild 3.0 yet?

It's still TBA as far as I can see. Only thing I've heard is that 4.0 is to be released shortly after 3.0.
