I recently moved to a room on campus since I started college a few days ago. The campus has wireless everywhere and is routed for internet in each room. However, I can't access the internet on my desktop. My roommate can access it wirelessly on his laptop. It seems instead of DSL, the campus requires Ethernet. I know my desktop has an Ethernet card because when I used the modem, the Ethernet light was on. My modem is Westell. Only has three wires: power cord, Ethernet cable, DSL cable. The Ethernet cable plugged into the Ethernet port on my desktop. I have NO IDEA what Ethernet is, just that I had it. I've contacted my campus' technical offices and they gave me some help, but still no service. I'm contacting them again tomorrow, but maybe someone here can help me with a simple question: To use Ethernet, instead of plugging the Ethernet cord into my desktop and modem, all I have to do is plugging into my desktop and the Ethernet jack, right? I do need my modem or DSL cord?
