I rented this game from blockbuster for a week, and I found it very entertaining... It's one of the best games I've ever played! So who's played it and what do you think? Eternal Sonata discussion here!

The story was very uhh, not good. Honestly, throughout the entire game you never really felt like you were on a quest to do anything, everyone's motivations for doing pretty much everything were so shallow, there was no real background or character development. The saving grace of the story was that in the end, everything was complete symbolism, and if you thought about it enough the entire story was really deep and meaningful, which sucks because at face value the story was complete ****, you had to break out your "Budhist Symbolism For Dummies' handbook in order for you to have any respect for what was actually going on.

Gameplay was fun, I wished more characters actually had unique controls like how with Viola you actually had to aim your arrows, etc. Sucks that by the time you get Harmony Chains, the enitre battle system just falls to button mashing. If they made it so that to do a Harmony Chian you actually had to time your combos, I'd like it better, but you could just mash X and everyone would just keep doing Super Specials over and over again, made you want to fall asleep.

I was also miffed that the character models, or even their weapons, didn't change at all based on what weapons or armor you had equipped, the game is visually gorgeous, I was hoping Next-Gen would allow them to do something like actual weapons/armor appearing on the characters.

Like I said before, the graphics are beautiful, not to mention the music was stunning, I was practically listening to Chopin for a week straight after I played the game, and the little bits where you got to read of Chopin's actual life were very interesting. On the note of graphics, it's also a shame that there is no open world exploration, every road is a straight line with every definite walls blocking you from going off the trail at all, everything is just go completely straight, or go completely backwards. Also, it alls befalls the typical RPG limitation of Powerful Monsters just being recolors of old weaker monsters, only this takes it pretty far, in that there are probably a grand total of maybe 10 actual monsters, and then 20-30 other ones are just recolors of those 10.

It was also sorta annoying that the game's Achievements, 75% of the could only be gotten from playing the game a 2nd time on Encore Mode.

Overall, the game was worth a rent.

I'd say rent it to see if you like it, first. I rented it, liked it, and now I'm probably gonna buy it ^-^

and I didn't get that far, so I don't really know how well the storyline and gameplay are, but as far as I got, it really caught my intrest ^^
