This thread should be called "How G Gundam improves EVERYTHING"

Everything becomes awesome when they have burning fingers.

Even an attack called "Sekiha Love-love Tenkyoken" sounds like the manliest thing ever to be conceived

    It's magic.

I felt like I could overcome anything with a tear-jerking speech about the east and whatever **** when I finished.

Eh, G Gundam has some of the strongest fights and weakest characters. The plot is middle of the road but most importantly it's not actually a Gundam series. It's super robot and Gundam is as a rule "realistic" robot. Meaning at least soft scifi, not techfantasy. Enjoyable in many ways, especially the unintentional humor, but it still sits funny with me since it's just not Gundam enough.

People can criticize it all they want, and almost all the points they raise are correct, but the series is one of the most fun to watch, and I can look over any amount of flaws for something as awesome as mechs with green fingers, rainbow kicks, giant beam clothes, a giant horse, long girl hair, a football helmet, and so much more. Suffice it to say G Gundam is amazing.

Not criticising or denigrating. Just questioning what possessed Sunrise.

Also, see other super robot series. They are much the same kind of animal.

Oh, it was the whatever anniversary of Gundam, and since the start they had been in the timeline Universal Century. They wanted to break away and do something special and unlike anything they had done so far with the series for the anniversary.

Still, changing genre from soft scifi/political drama to a super robot combat sports series is not what I'd call special. It's what I'd call stupid, crazy or change of ownership normally.

Well, it was just something to commemorate the special anniversary, and it immediately went back to a political based series after G, so it's not like it changed the course of the series forever.

Think of it as an homage to what made Gundam possible.

Remember where I said I enjoyed this show? You don't have to constantly try to justify its existence to me. But like I was saying, it wasn't commemorating anything by any normal standards. It was doing the opposite of the normal, that's just... something else entirely.

@ SJ: I understand. Though, the first Gundam started as hard sci-fi manga, became a pitch to sell toys and ended up being daytime television. So while super robot made robot series popular, Gundam owes none of its attitudes and ideas to the genre. So I get it, but it still seems weird.

I'm not trying to justify anything. I don't think you understand the reason for why it is what it is, because if you did I'm not sure you would continue thinking that it failed at celebrating Gundam. I don't care if you think it failed, I'm just not sure you understand the reasons behind why the series is so unique.

Also, to my knowledge it was not made after a manga, and it was certainly not made for the purpose of selling toys. The models came after the series had already been running. It wan't until later in the franchise that the series became about trying to sell models, as the original series was considered a failure in every aspect, and had such a small audience. If anything it was the opposite, the models were meant to boost the popularity of the series.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but if you can give me a source I would like to read it, as I have never heard that before.
