I hate to say it but I suppose I don't think they have equal terms for opportunity and potential. I suppose not with their mental illness that they could have a chance at a regular life. Even though thats what every parent wants and tries to let them have but, is it really ever normal? I guess not.

True no one chooses to be disabled or crippled. But the parent does make that decision essentially for the kid.

I guess my first statement is wrong. Its not taken away by the decision by just the person, but everyone too I suppose.

This is why saying people, beyond rights and privileges entailed to people, are equal turns out to be rather false. We can tell just by thinking of our own lives that we are not equal in all things as anyone else is when it comes to physical performance or mental aptitude.

This doesn't mean though we should not help one another, allow people to find what they are good at etc and aid those who are ill. When we think of 'equality' it should be that if a man, woman, child is injured or handicapped in some way, that person should get the same entitled care as the next person whether the person is black, white, purple, etc and have opportunities and obtain things not based on standards other than their ailment itself. This kind of equality for care and social standings, we can have. Just the same as in court, even if you can't afford an attorney, you can be granted one so there is help for those who are poor and not able to present their own cases. This is paid by taxes and such to allow a giving nature to keep a sense of fairness. If someone is handicapped, regardless of who he/she is, we'd expect that the person be given proper care. This is the equality we can fight for.

However, of course we realize that people are born with differences or accidents happen etc. This is where we are not equal, which comes down to physical and mental prowess, as stated prior.

yes, I do. I would never be able to live with myself if I did not. Discriminating based on anything is old, and most importantly, its wrong.

Well yeah, i'd say everyone is equal, we are all born, we all have parents (whther we know them or not), we live our lives we try to make the best out of ourlives and than we die. Thats a human in a nut shell.

I think their is a Daoist saying that 'We all have different paths during life, but all paths lead back to one true path' or something like that. Just trying to say whether rich or poor, smart or dumb, healthy or unhealthy we all have to kick the bucket one day, whther by natural selection or by God's will or something else, we live and we die.

Now physically yeah we are all different, we all have different noses, cheeks, hands, fingerprints, blood (except for identical siblings, but let's not go there! XD) which makes us as unequal as each other, but even so physically we all need food for energy, sleep, water, warmth and so on.

But yeah in my opinion we are all equal, because we all die and live, so there you go.

Morally, everyone is born equal and should be treated that way. However, that only applies up until the point that you are able to make decisions for yourself and understand the difference between right and wrong.

Is a murderer to be treated as equal as someone who has never commited even a minor crime? I don't think so. This is why I think that the whole human rights thing needs to be completely revamped. In the UK, prisons are so cushy and soft that the prisoners don't want to escape.

As for being physically and mentally equal, we aren't. It is the lottery of genetics and chance. Some are smart and strong, other's are less intelligent and weak. Some are born into rich families with a silver spoon, others live in poverty their whole lives.
