Emo is a style; of clothing, of music.
The "stupid" societies have made "emo" to become a race.

    MAY I STATE:
EMO IS A TYPE OF STYLE, A "EMO" PERSON IS NOT SOMEBODY WHO CUTS OR WHO WANTS TO KILL THEMSELVES. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN "EMO" PERSON.

The only reason we think that "emo" is a type of race is because somebody stupid started it as a racial comment. Now it's all been blown out of proportion.

Therefore, it is no longer "emo" as a person. The people who call themselves emo's are now being called "nemo's".

And my style, which was emo, and still is, is now being called Emoi.

What do you think of this? And who believes that "EMO" is a race?

    ITS SO RACIAL!!!!

Not a racial description or race, but a stereotype. A style it may be, but it got a pretty bad rap when the artists of the style got unbelievably whinny with their music. Emo is short of emotion, and it was meant to produce a style of music that is full of emotion, but the problem is that most music, if not all is full of emotion. Emo tends to be whinny quasi-suicidal emotion, which is where the cutting and lonely jokes came from. Maybe someone will rise up eventually and deliver the Emo people to their promised land of razor blades and bad poetry and show that there's more to life than the stereotype that originated with the whinny music. Last I heard Fallout Boy is Emo in some way, and I like their music as you'll only find 1 or 2 tracks that ***** and complain. other than that it's alright. who knows, maybe bands like Fallout Boy will deliver the style from it's joke. I highly doubt it though as there's more influence in solidifying the cliche, due to most of the kids whinning along with the tastless music.

I think too that Emo is a style. People that show their emotions more clearer and are interested in things that can bring out someone's emotions some more. I guess... It's kinda hard for me to explain...I might be completly wrong.

But what people think and say about razors and suicidal inclinations is a bit exaggerated if ya tell me. Maybe a few of those people who were Emo were just very sad at the moment and tried to commit suicide by cutting their wrists with razors. It became known across the world, and most people must have thought that being Emo means to be very sad and try to commit suicide by cutting into whatever, with razors.
That thought has been strenghtened by kids who just want to get everyone's attention by trying to cut their own wrists.
I know people who do that just to be popular. They do stuff like dropping their razors in front of their classroom mates on purpose and say "Oopsie... I accidentally dropped my razor". Now THAT, is pathetic.

Emo is not, and never will be considered, a race in my eyes. I don't judge people by their race. =\

And it's ridiculous how now it's a racial term. The dude who thought of it should be shot. <_<

Whoa whoa wait a minute....emo is now a RACE?

-Drags hand over face- Of all the stupid, misguided things that could occur.

Let me say the obvious thing first off, there is ONE, yes ONE human race. Just because your skin is a different color or your eyes are slanted or you speak a different language or in this case, DRESS differently. You are still HUMAN.

Now that that's out of the way...

The razorblades and the suicidal talk are just stereotypes thought up by those who don't bother to spend time with these people and think they're being 'cool' or 'funny' by doing this kind of thing.

I just think it's a silly waste of time.

If anyone believes that 'emo' is a race, they have SERIOUS mental problems.

"Emo" is a manmade word, just like war. It should have never been invented. A person can't be 'emo'. MUSIC cant be 'emo'. Music is what genre it is, like My Chemical Romance, people call them 'emo' but they are PUNK ROCK.

As of now, I despise anyone who calls ANYTHING 'emo'.

I wasn't even aware there were people who considered it to be a race. Especially since such things are dependent on genetics and emo is definitely not heretic...

Loooool. Emo a race? That's so idiotic.

Emo is a social group, sure. Maybe whoever thought up this thing had 'race' and 'social group' confused.

So what? Trends are stupid to begin with anyways. Give it a few months or a year and people will be stupid over something different. Get over it and ignore them. Life is hard enough to go through without worrying about what everyone else says/thinks/does.

no, it's not a race. it's just a different type of person and it's not a real word. it's just like FOB (fresh off the boat) for ppl with accents. just ignore it, it's stupid and u should never use it in a conversation

not a race, i didn't mean it that way - a group of people. "EMOS" - stereotypical, it's like white people vs black people - it's NOT RIGHT!!!! White and black people aren't two races...

I agree with GangstaXprincess, (hehe summah)
Emo has been turned into a race because of the stupid people who run around cutting themselves, calling themselves "emos"
I'm going to shove a razor up the next person's arse the next time they tell me their an emo that cuts themselves!!!!!!

That's comon decent, not common fashion statement, style, or behaviour. It's a fad. Why is this even in intelligent discussion anyway?

Because, we are dicussing why words, such as EMO, are being turned into racial meanings that hurt people or give people a bad name.

I always assumed emo was just a sub genre of punk rock that eventually led to a social group that took the place of goth. I don't know the whole thing might be different. It just seemed to make sense at the time with the whole obscene amount of makeup and black and made up depression and stereotypical cutting of wrists and bad poetry. But, now people are treating it like an actual serious thing, I don't know. I actually don't care too much either. No one should be offended by my ignorant views, so yeah none of this getting mad and/or whatever.

    Wow.

I don't even know how to respond to this.

Stupid people stereotyping others... Half of them probably don't even know what emo stands for.

Racial? Not by a long short. Discriminatory? Maybe. A stereotypical joke? Yes. I see it as no different than mocking pimp culture, or over emphasizing hip-hop culture. So what if there are jokes and sterotypes. It's the case with all styles. If anything, you're not making yourself out to be a victim, you're only enforcing the whinny "nobody bothers to care" emo stereotype with this. If you enjoy the style or if it appeals to you, then what others think, criticize, or joke around about shouldn't affect your stance. People automatically assume that hip-hop is about the objectifying of women, gangsta bling bling, and drive-by shootings, despite all those former things being propagated by some of the worst artists the hip-hop industry has ever seen. But they're not whinning about it. In reality this is useless. Aside from the jokes that are made, no one really cares about the point your style is supposed to make let alone any other style.
