To the original poster, self-harm is not done out of cowardice. I speak from experience here. It's not always cutting, either. In my case, it's repeatedly dragging my blunt nails across my arm and is a way of coping with pent-up stress because of the unwillingness to utilize or lack of other options. As someone who still struggles with his own self-injury problem, I'd very much appreciate you not insulting those of us that fight with it.

As far as stereotypes go, ignore them. They'll fade and/or change with time. Hell, my own mother called me goth once just because I was collared at the time and like to wear a lot of black. In reality, I'm much closer to being classified along the lines of hardcore, but I don't count myself as a member of any general types such as those that have been mentioned.

    Emo.
Such a small word ne? Hmm...

Emo, to me, is not suicide. not self harm. People's first impression, usually, when they hear the word emo is just that and that emo people are cowards of life/reality. Weaklings may be a term, but I personally think that 'emos' are just people who are a little too emotional and sensitive. They have their own way of expressing themselves like they wear and how they look [like how they're hair is styled] - the emo style is getting more and more popular even to the happiest of people. Also, how they listen or sing or whatever with the emo songs with lyrics that are usually depressing.

Suicide is just the tiniest aspect, maybe it isn't even an aspect of emo, and is usually the final and last result - so is self harm. It usually isn't a person's choice to become an emo. Emos usually result to family problems/ broken hearts.

Emo is Emotional. Nothing more than that. Sure, a new music genre and now a popular style - but emo is not suicide.
Get that into your head ._.

Thank you bro! i get that all the time because of my appearance and the clothes i wear. but if people would actually get the time to know people and there mantality they wouldnt make such stereotypical remarks about people.
