No Thanks Edit Thread Title

umm, maybe we might be able to...

Can we like, be able to change our thread topic titles, cuz I've really been wanting to do that on one of my threads...

And, maybe you could count started threads as posts, just suggesting :]

 

Threads that are started in sections where post count do count as posts.

As far as changing the title of threads, that's an ability that premiums have at the moment.

I can do it easier since im a mod and i don't think normal people can do it my way....

 

It doesn't work that way whether you're Premium or not. Yes, you can change the title heading within the thread itself, but it doesn't actually change the thread name when you're looking at it from outside...

 

No, you can change the title of the thread. You click it on the outside. I'll make a thread in spam as example.​

I guess only mods can truly change a thread's title.

 

Only mods in that section/S.Mods/and Admins can change thread titles. I cannot give you guys that access because the only way I can is giving you guys complete editing power of the entire forum (basically making everyone an S. mod with no banning power.)

If you need a thread title changed, pm us and we can do it for you.

Before the flames come and I am told "impossible! That would mean total editing rights!" please take a look at the following picture I snapped of another v-bulletin board.

Why not? It would not be a waste of time, as people have been requesting title changes for a while, and it is very inconvenient to summon a mod simply to correct a simple typo.

So we have agreed in the past that we should get it, but it was thought to be impossible. Since it isn't, can we please take steps to implement the same system? Just double-click on your thread title and away you go.

 

Then people should pay better attention when making their threads to avoid typos in the titles.

Also, just because something is able to be done on some vB boards, doesn't actually mean we can do it here too, for one thing somethings require additional **** which only spdude can input, and RvR and I don't have full permissions either.


Anyways, I actually hate the idea, can you link me to the thread where it was agreed we should get it? I do not recall that.

 

Don't forget that these guys are 3.8.1 while we're 3.7.3

 

Weren't all the prems able to edit the titles in the past until someone realized that it gave them mod powers? I consider that acknowledgment of the idea as good.

I suppose the idea of updating the site is also out of the question due to SPDude-only powers?

 

Considering the fact it was stopped, is clearly disaproval of the idea.

Besides which, if it was ever purposely put in place, it would be added as a benefit of prem and not open to all members.

Also, correct, we cannot upgrade unless spdude does it :'D

Anyway.

Look under section 3a; as far as I know, you can edit your thread titles.

 

That actually doesn't work. It alters the title WITHIN the thread, but not the title of the thread itself.

 

Editing post titles

Yeah, I'm bringing this up again after I discovered something.

Previously I posted this pic asking whether we could implement the same.

I recently discovered:



However it only works for a short period after the thread is made. Is it possible via the admin CP to extend the time-frame for editing infinitely? I'd imagine so. Previously the reason for not doing it was because it would require Spdude level access, but I don't think that something this simple would.

Just a thought.

 

First of all, you just found out? lol
Second, I do like this idea. Especially if somebody makes a mistake, and finds out after people post. Also, it'd work for people who aren't comfortable with their title and want to change it, but don't think of it 'till later.

Why do you bring this up again? This doesn't change anything.

 

It's not likely to change, so going to close this. If someone makes a mistake, he or she can correct it in the time allotted a majority of the time. After that time, just pm a staff member and we'd be happy to do it. Most people catch their errors pretty quick so not seeing this as a problem.

 

Well i think that normal users should be able to edit their thread titles if they were the thread makers
a couple of times i messed up on it but couldnt edit it
so i think its a good idea
theres no harm to it
also if there is already a thread about this i didnt know
