If that's actually right, then that's pretty neat. I never use "whom" but this might make me start.

Who is a subject, whom is an object. Works for me.

    That's also a good trick.

Unfortunately, I don't think everyone always knows what exactly is a subject or an object. For example, an object could also be the subject.

Well, whomself isn't even a word, so not really (neither is whoself).

I feel genuinely grateful for this because I've read numerous articles on this subject and I could still . . . never . . . get it.

    Thanks.

You're forgetting that the subject of a sentence cannot be "him," "her," or "them."

    Here's a much better guide.

My link already explains that concept.

I worded my OP wrong. I should have said, "When you replace it..."

Just like effect and affect- one is a noun, the other a verb :3 when I learned that I waas like "FREAKING YAY! LSJHFKBSHDKFH!" but then I forgot which was which, don't worry, I remember sometimes xD

And I let it go over my head...

I never really had problems with those.

The way I look at it is that effect is an ailment, like status effects in video games, such as burned, while affect has to do with what we endure, such as, "The effects of poison severely affect the human body."

The spiked drink is likely what effected this situation.

Who vs Whom is one that I know if I stop to think about it, but I really don't care most of the time. I use very little of either in formal English and in colloquial English I always use "who."
