Dude that's "gay"

When your saying something's "gay", your saying that you hate it. I use the same Comeback as you when someone calls something gay. I avoid using the word, because it's slack to Gay people

 

What I find is that often people will say gay and other words, (I know people who use the N word as a flippant remark) because it is easier to say than, for example "You're shirt is rather stupid and doesn't math your pants" The people who use these words are not Homophobic or racist .Just becaus someoneuses un-PC words doesn't make them bad.
I do think, however, that younger people should be encouraged early on to use more inteliigent remarks. I am 14 and when my Mom used to make me use my P's and Q's and I think it has helped now.

 

Doesn't gay also mean happy?
So that guy's actually saying, "Dude, that shirt's happy!" O.o

 

It's not really a case of homophobia (with exceptions, of course). It's just a word to most of the people who use it that particular way. I even hear gay people use that language at my school often.

 

Necrobumpwtf? anyways, gay pretty much took on 3 meanings. Happy, homosexual, strange

 

Gay=Homosexual,odd,lame,ugly,hideous,etc etc.

That's the entire use of the world in a nutshell..happy wont count since its not an insult.

 

It's stupid how people and the idiocy and igonarance use the word 'gay' to describe something. It proves that those people who use is a lot have no vocabulary what so ever. Saying the word 'gay' really irks me and annoys me (just like the C word that people in my school have been using a lot but back on topic..). Bascially it's somewhat now a trend to say words like that, and all trends die eventually right? (At least most of them)

 

Well most people have already stated something similar to what I have to add, since topics like these are great for my love of debating and argueing. Well anyways onto the topic.

The word gay originally meant happy, like the flag was waving gaily in the wind on 4th of July. But soon, for some reason, that I'll look up, it became the term for homosexuality and that's how most of us recognize it now a days. But for some reason kids these days, I sound old saying that, have gotten bored with the term 'stupid' and 'dumb' so they resort to changing the meaning of older, more well known words. So gay at my school has practically become the word 'stupid' and like others have said, it's always aimed at something in a very hateful way, unless you're just joking around and saying something 'like that was so gay' to your friends, not necissarily (sp?) aiming it at anyone or anything in particular, but because of how that word has changed now a days, I've come to hate it, because of how it's thrown around. It's also given the term homosexual a mean, hateful meaning when people use it. That's why I'm highly against using the term 'gay' anymore, I mean sometimes I'll slip up and joke around with the term, but it really gets under my skin when someone is referring to someone or something as gay.

Like a school counselor once told all of our school at an assembly, if you want to call someone's shirt happy, then come out and say it, don't use words like gay, because you could be turned in for sexual harressment, no matter how innocent it may seem, since it can extremely offending to people. If I find anything more out on this topic, then I'll post it, but that's all I have currently. There's my rant for this post.

Yes, 'gay' now means stupid, homosexual, and - now rarely - happy.
Though this can't be justified. Word etymology (I think I just butchered that spelling) always changes, and can have roots anywhere. It's also influenced by a constantly changing culture. Back when gay was used as happy, no one thought of it to describe a homosexual.
Just like today, we no longer think of gay as happy.

Personally, I don't think saying "Such and such is gay", since the meaning of that can be taken in several different ways. But we can't change what people say. =\

 

I don't like it when people say gay like that, nor does my friends in college. So just to annoy people we say,
"That's so straight" but it's mainly a joke, but we still say it.

 

Well first of all, it's disgusting of how they get married and how they live with each other. One acts like a tomgirl and the other acts normal except the other would then do unpredictable stuff. -_-;;

people who say ' thats gay' or ' youre gay' are just in need of attention if you ask me they dont use stupid or retarted or something they use thats gay..its just what everyone uses now -_-

it even slips out once and awhile for me..its really not right to saw that tho

 

People use that word because they want the other person to feel bad about them selves and think of them selves as outsiders but some people (not all) use that word coz they are homosexual and try to hide it by accusing others
