I'd like to get this little pet peeve over with dub hatin'. XD
At first, I thought it was a bit okay appreciatin' the Japanese more, but then it started annoy me to an extent XD. This is mostly spawnin' from YouTube where plethoras of comments at based on biting and gnawin' at the English dubs of their favorite anime

Especially when most of those vids have positive-rated comments spitting on dubs with the like of saying dubs shouldn't exist or sayin' English sucks. There seems to be no logical reason behind this hatred. I'm guessing it's because they think it'll make them cool. If we never had dubs in the first place, anime wouldn't be mainstream. Most of these viewers only care about....the raw original. I mean, I can watch anime, as long as I understand what's goin' on, and I prefer dubs over subs because I really don't wanna sit through a whole episode readin' subtitles and unable to appreciate half of the animation going on. 4Kids may have had a long history of altering anime to an obnoxious extent, but they've proven they can do great as seen in their uncut DVDs.. It's just that the main problem is there is just WAY too much complaining about those dubs rather than appreciatin' them for the attempt of making them mainstream so your friends will know what the hell yer talkin' about. XD I mean, the original Japanese dialog is okay n' all and they excel in a lot of parts, but then again, I don't think the entire world's gonna want to hear someone scream like an ass or easily get lost in translation since the characters speak in a language almost completely foreign to them. There are just a lot more people out there who just wanna enjoy the show in a language they know cause it'll help the anime grow. Let's face it, there are a lot more people who aren't gonna be bothered to learn through a whole lotta classes just to understand one phrase nor are they gonna complain OVER AND OVER about a VO's skill

    Yer opinion, please. o:

WOW! Thats one long paragraph! XD well in some Anime's the dubs are good, but in some its terrible. I know what you mean man a lot of people show a ton of hatred for the dubs. There are people who can't read subs fast so they can't get whats happening in the story. Plus if you have watched the original its fun to watch the dubbed version.

I agree completely. What I think happens is that people watch the subs first and grow accustomed to the voices. Then, when the dub comes out, they can't stand the English voices because it's different than the Japanese. I've said this a thousand times, but what people don't understand is that dialogue is not the only thing that needs to get translated. The personality and flow of the voice must also be changed to better suit the language. Take Death Note for example. In Japanese, Light's voice is very calm and smooth, and his laugh is high-pitched. In the English version, he has a more intense emotional aspect in his voice, and his laugh is low and choppy. In other words, the image of a devious (and somewhat insane) murderer varies between languages, and the Voice Actors must adjust accordingly. Anime may come from Japan, but if we don't take note of cultural differences, it will sound unnatural, in which case, we'd be better off just watching the subs.

I don't really prefer one over the other. I don't hate one or the other. I like Sub and Dub equally. I'm used to reading subtitles because my dad is hearing impaired so we have to put subtitles/captions on everything. But I also like dub because you can understand exactly which word is being stressed.
So yeah, I'm neutral on the whole Sub vs. Dub thing~

there is thin line between the 2. tho i prefer subs over dub... some dubs are just geeeyyy~~~ it makes my ears bleed, while otehrs are awesome..
many dubs sound emotion-less... and it ticks me off and buds are often not correct (doesnt match w/ what the character originally said).. <_< i dont know why they do that.

so still prefer subs over dubs anyday.

Stop makin' such a big deal about it cause some of us really dun't wanna hear the whinin' and moanin'. As long as I can understand what the hell everyone is sayin', I ain't got a problem with it.

See 4kids one piece dub, it's the cream of the crop of bad dubs.

What I'd like to say about anime dubs is that don't people prefer when games are dubbed? Makes it easier to understand, no?

And about the Death Note dub, I don't see why every fan of the 'original' hates it so much. L's voice seems to tick everyone off, but I think it suits his personailty very well. And the actor is good, yes he dosn't show too much emotion but you can tell that's done intentionally. L isn't ment to be overly emotional. And Light's actor is good. You can't deny that, he is. I mean he did both the terrified teenager and the crazed Kira so well in my opinion and they're poles apart.

But I have heard some bad dubs... But if you don't like don't watch. Simple as that. And the people who look down on the ones of us who do like watching the dubs should stop being so arrogant. No offence intended in that, but your trying to force your thoughts onto others. Whether or not you realise that.

Agreed! In fact, I think Death Note is the best dub I've ever seen. The Voice Actors don't under or over act, it's very realistic. Also, when the translaters try to translate word for word, the dialogue is a bit awkward. In Death Note, they successfully implemented english manerisms and timing, and the writing is practically flawless.

Alright, step back people, step back. I think we can all agree that Fullmetal Alchemist is the very best dub that has ever and will ever be made. The dub itself is awsome in its quality, but the writing is incredible and ties the amazing story together extremely well. I've never seen Death Note dubbed or otherwise, but I severely doubt it could top FMA.

Yes, both of them are really awesome! I guess they're tied for first. Seriously though, watch the Death Note dub, it's brilliant.
