I'd have to say no in most cases. I think 15 for permit and 16 for driving seems fair as 16 is the age when teens can get legitimate part time jobs. Before that, I don't think they need cars as they would be driving to school and to friends and that would be it other than parents doing errands.

    I say dear lord no...

I got permit at 17, liscence at 18. Driving safely was tough.

Take into account that a persons risk management system isn't fully developed to approximatly 21 or 22, and there is a major danger.

Also, why does a 17 year old need a liscence? Does a minor really have a need for independence? No! You can justify it with, "Hang out with friends." but the law will never view that as justifiable means to cause a dangerous, or potentially deadly situation.

Even most 18 year olds arn't mature enough to drive... *Cough, Racing, Cough*

I cannot see how you could really justify this... The prosecution says no!

I had a permit at 15 from driver's ed and then a driver's license at 16. I didn't drive though alone any way till I had a job where I needed the transportation. Otherwise I just drove for practice or to get groceries for my parents. I also paid half on the car I first owned and shared with my dad. So 16 seems the best age as you have reasons to. Before that really I don't think kids should be on the road alone. Where I was too had a curfew for kids so I could only be out till 10 any way whether in a car or not before I was 18.

I really can't think what a kid before 16 needs a car license for.

Being 14 myself, I don't think this would be a good idea, since I am more responsible then most teens my age, and I don't think I'm ready to learn to drive yet.

While I understand that kids want to learn to drive early on, I don't think it's a good idea to have 15 year-olds allowed to drive by themselves.

Hell No, what does a 15 year old need a license for, we all took the bus and or walked or rode our bikes to school you guys can do the exact same its not like you are being tortured. And either way I don't trust myself driving, lord knows I am hitting 100 on a weekly basis and I have been driving for almost 5 years now, and even I do stupid things the last thing we need is an even more irresponsible set of younger drivers. And since they can't pay for any of it themselves why should they have the right to go out and drive. If anything I am for upping the age limit on driving after looking back on stupid stuff I use to do.

You bring up another good point, Spitfire. Kids can't even -pay- for gas to use the vehicle, let alone pay into owning a vehicle at that age.

    Hell. ****ing. No.

Kids today are more concentrated on texting while driving, blaring their music, and getting everywhere as fast as humanly possible. IMO, they should raise the driving age because it would teach the kid more responsibility and they would actually NEED the car to go from work and school. These 16 year olds, most don't pay gas, car payments, let alone insurance. I know that back east, the driving age is 17 or 18 and the insurance is through the roof. If they lowered their age to 14, you know how much MORE the insurance would raise!?

Wow....do i sound old fashioned or what?

Kids? what are you smoking I can barely keep up on my payments and for you kids who want this let me put it in perspective. I drive a 2000 Jetta with a VR6 motor. Now the payments are around 170 a month for 4 years on my loan, my insurance with a clean record is 125 per month, my gas is in the area of 250 per month. add that onto fixing a car I would love to see a 14 who has that money just laying around yea freaking right.

i dont' agree with this at all. i don't think we can really trust a 14 year old driving at all, because the majority of them JUST got out of middle school. and besides, what does a 14 year old need to drive for anyway? they can just take the bus to school like they always have. also, needing a car to hang out with your friends isn't a good reason to drive either. even if they are working, they could simply just take the bus or have their parents drive them, there's nothign wrong with having the parents drive you places. and some ppl want to be more independent but they really dont' need to be THAT independent yet. anyways, i would say no.
    huh? what are you saying?

Ya repliku.People aren't mature enough to get a Provisional license at 14.Most 14 year olds are pissed off their heads with Vodka half the time.I know because a group of 14 year olds at a party after there exams the other day and they had tonnes of Vodka. You'd wonder how they actually convince adults to get it for them.14 year olds shouldn't get provisional license's also because they are too stupid to even know left from right. If 14 year olds had half a brain they'd be dangerous.

I say no way. Most 15-year-olds are very irresponsible. Just look at Miley Cyrus. If we let them out on the road, there would way too many more accidents.

I agree completely with Shades about the insurance.

I say no. We don't need any buttheaded 14 year-olds (not Amber) getting drunk on Vodka and crashing into other, innocent drivers. Then the 14 year olds would sue the victim and win because of their age. However, noone listens to 12 yearolds, so what am I saying? NO DRIVER'S PERMITS FOR 14 YEAR OLDS!! THE END!!!! FWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *insert evil laughs here*.

That I can barely hold my car up and keep it going, with two jobs. No 14 is able to do it, cause I can assume that none are that responsible plus the cost of a car is just outrageous.

Hell no. Most 16 year olds who drive alone aren't even mature enough. My brother waited on year to get his permit and thank god he did. He's about to be 17 and getting his liscence in less than a week. I've seen some crazy ass drivers all of them didn't look a day older than 19. One guy tried to speed up in the rain, lost control, and almost went over a bridge. You' really trust a 15 year old in a car by him self? That's why the permit requires an adult to be with you, because kids are ****ing crazy. Why would a 15 year old need a car? All that will lead to is trouble. Keep kids off my damn streets.

    14 is quite young.

I agree and think our current system works better (for the USA, I mean, I'm not sure how it is elsewhere). Get your permit at 15 or 15 and a 1/2, then license at 16.
