Personally I don't care. I have been drinking since I was 15 though, so big whoop. So to me its not a big deal either way, plus its lost its fun as well. Anyway the one arguement I have heard for this is that if you old enough to die for teh country (US) then you are old enough to drink, that sounds like fair logic. But I don't care one way or the other.

Most 21-year-olds can barely handle it. If they lowered the drinking age, they'd have to put other restrictions on to keep everything sane.

Well all 18 year olds have been driving for only 2 years and don't perfectly know how to drive. So give them a little space between driving ad drinking. Or schools can show a drunk man stumble around the class to scare the students never to drink, well I would to be to creeped out ever drink.

where i am, it's STRICTLY enforced that people keep to the law: 21. anyway, i'm really in no rush for alcohol, to be honest. i was given the chance to try it in asia (where the age doesn't matter, at least where i was)...but, ya know. ;]

alchohol for 18 year olds?! It's already that teens get in the most car related accidents. now have teens, cars, AND alchohol put together?! I'll be afraid to go on the streets.

peronally, i would have no problem with the drinking age being lowered to 18. i find it a bit ridiculous that you are considered an adult at 18, yet you cant drink. you actually cant get jobs in certain places at 18 because of this, even though you are technically an adult.

also, concerning resonsibility, people at 21 are not much more responsible than those at 18. there will always be immature people at any age. so i dont think that is a valid argument.

what i do understand is that the human brain continues to significantly develop until age 21, where things kinda are in place, so i can see concerns there. but people at even younger ages drink anyways. also, people in other countries drink at age 18 and they seem to have no problems.

also, consider the fact that if you prohibit someone from doing something, you make it more desirable. so maybe lowering the drinking age might not be too bad.

So many people really don't get it. You have been told/brainwashed that alcohol is a completely bad thing. There are no positives, if you drink it you will be seriously harming your body with every sip. That is a GROSS exaggeration. Yes if you drink excessive amounts of alcohol every week of course you are going to suffer damage. It is the same with everything, too much is bad for you.

As for the driving thing, it is not limited to teenagers. Again sensationalised by the media. Teenagers crash because they have just passed their test. If it is cause by drink driving it's because they are an idiot and need to be better educated. People think teenagers are all hormonal idiots -_____-

i think it's too young. we're gonna be short of ALOT of high school seniors or college freshmen becuz of this, lol. but i personally think that the only reason alcohol is a problem for teens is becuz it's this forbidden fruit. and forbidden fruit is always exciting. if you see other countries, you'll see that teens dont' really have a drinking problem there and that's probably becuz there is no age restriction there, so it's not this forbidden fruit waiting to be eaten so they can break the rules. i mean, you dont' see people with water drinking problems rite? but lowering the age has a possibility of being good so i'm not really sure if ti's that bad.

I bet if they did this the deaths from drinking and driving would skyrocket.

And plus most 18 aren't responsible enough.

It's not like the age limit was stopping teens from drinking anyway.

I really can`t say anything `cause in Finland you can drink alcohol when your 18 (Its not like everyone [Expect me. I haven`t ever drinked alcohol :D] doesn`t drink already at the 15)
If you drink, lets say little beer or wine at the lunch or randomly at the parties it`s OK but if you drink (Like people in my school) 50+ beer bottles and stronger alcohol of beer every Friday (I`m serious. They drink that much at the age of 15) you could just kill yourself.

I think it should be lowered to 18 because thats when people hit college. When you go to college, if your 18, your 21. Alcohol is readily accessible, and the age limit doesnt stop anyone.

I believe the safer age would be 19 to drink instead of 18 as some kids are still in school at 18 and a majority by 19 are not. Kids have been known to come to school drunk and it would probably happen more at first if the age was reduced to 18. However, I've always disagreed with the law that it has to be 21 as the legitimate drinking age. You can do the following when you are 18.

    1. Vote
    2. Join the armed forces
    3. Go to college
    4. Get a full time job
    5. Move out of your home and be responsible for yourself without permission.
    6. Get credit cards and purchase things of high expense (unless you are rich and you can do it whenever).
    7. Smoke
    8. Take care of a younger sibling as a guardian.

With all of these things people -can- do at 18 and when they are out of school, I am sure that drinking is something they do any way. I know I did at 18 and didn't care about the law as most others don't. Those of us who were responsible simply drank inside and didn't go out acting stupid or trying to get into bars to get people to get us some. Also, we learned to drink and not always get drunk off our kiesters either.

So I'm kind of more for the option that the kids should be OUT of high school before they can drink, but since you can't regulate that as well, I'd have to say 19 is probably the best age, and it'd help if parents did some encouraging too on teaching them to actually drink responsibly and not drink and drive. If there was some way of enforcing kids in High School could not drink, I'd be more for that as they have a tendency to be stupid and pass it around to others who are too young. Of course that won't happen in too many cases, so it has to be reminded to kids in Drivers Ed at school.

Also, alcohol, like -most- anything else in life, taken in moderation is not going to kill you or make you into some drug addict. It's the people that use alcohol as a means of 'curing other problems' like depression that mostly have the problem with addiction, or they are get easily addicted to anything and alcohol was just what was chosen. People can over indulge in food and become fat and yes, there are lawsuits because Burger King and McDonalds put food out so people can become fat because they have -no control- over themselves. Anything to excess is not good for you. You drink too much water and your kidneys won't work. So in the end, it's all about responsibility and knowing your limits, and some people can learn, even if others cannot. I drank at home with my family on holidays or special occasions since I was 16. I turned out fine as did others. The poison in the end is an addictive personality.

Exactly, it is the individual people that cause the problems, not the limit itself. I am fine with it being at 18. If it was 19 all clubs and bars would have to change the age of entry. They would lose business because of it too, even though people would just get in anyway either because of laziness on the bouncers part or with a fake or borrowed ID. The more illegal you make something the more people will try to break the rule. People in general don't like to be told what to do, teenagers especially so.

Also many people seem to think that at 18 you aren't mature enough to drink. They obviously aren't that old themselves or watch too much TV. At 18 most people are capable of controlling themselves. If the government trusts you to vote, why can't they trust you to drink? I hate hypocrisy so much -___-
