dreams are the only reason why i go to bed at night (plue I need sleep) but what do you think they really are, to me there just another world we can go to mentaly without even getting off our back-sides, so what do you think about when you see or hear the word dream (if this shouldn't be in Intelligent Discussion, sorry)

Mr. Bob, this is intelligent discussion...*ahem*...

To me, Dreams are MUCH more like a different world to reside in. But we all know dreams are merely just recaps of your day and your memories.

Think about it...no matter how weird the dream is, you've always found yourself in a situation just like in every one of your dreams.

I think dreams are your brain's way of dealing with all the information that it has gathered during the day, and processing it in a more subjective form. This is why psychologists are interested in dreams, as they tell them about the workings of the mind.

Many dreams are repeated for different individuals (e.g. falling or flying) so probably relate to very similar experiences or emotions.

I think dreams are memories, be it a past life or experiance you dont remember. and your mind brings it back to light because it has signifigance toward your life now.

Hmm... maybe Arc is right. It could be from a past life. Interesting thought.

Anyway, I love my dreams and honest to god wouldn't sleep if I didn't have 'em. They allow me to do things I wouldn't normally do. I think that dreams are what are physical form truly seeks. Even when you have a nightmare; maybe your body is just searching for adventure? I think they represent our deepest wants and needs, sometimes to the extreme.

No, I don't think that's true. 'Cause in 4th Grade I had a dream I went on a Field Trip with no clothes on.

Anyway, I think that when you dream, you reflect on what has happened previously in the day. Like, a combination of everything that happened. or, they're what you were thinking before you went to sleep.

It's definitely not what happened. I'm a virgin and I've had sex in my dreams many times which proves that wrong. Although the idea of it being what you're thinking before you fall asleep is a very good one. I think that's true, as I've tried it myself a few times and it partially works.

Dreams to me are ways to see your past life or what might happen. Once I had a dream where a man called me a 'Fortunate Dreamer' and I stick to that title. It probley had something to do with what happened in a past life. Or even a dream could be a memory from the past, but not your own.

I could go into further detail, but I am way to tired to do so.

I see dreams as something that your mind has longed for that you haven't known ever before.Take my dream from a couple nights ago:

Our school turned out to be an organization that brainwashed the kids, and I was somehow able to get away. And as it turned out, most of the Student Council members were behind it.I grabbed one of the girl Member's neck, and threatened to kill her if they didn't let us go.I forget what happened after that.Weird, huh? O.o

Well, yus.I think dreams are a way for your mind to unlock an imagination that you never knew you had. :3

Not neccassarily. I think dreams are one of the most powerful things humans can experience. It's a huge collaboration between everything you are, everything you were, everything you could be... it's every emotion you've felt, are feeling and will one day feel, what you want, what you need, what you hate and what you love, what you've found and what you've sought, where you are and how you got there, where you will find yourself...

...dreams are impossible to define. Much like "love". I don't know why humans must explain everything. Somethings are just better left unsaid. Dreams for instance... their amazing, why are we working so hard to decipher them?

    Remember people; dissecting kills.

Nothing against intelligent discussion of course, but talking about dreams makes me all woozy and happy. ^_^ I'm weird I know. Analyzing them just... unneccassary. But then, that could have been used alot in history on different subjects and we wouldn't be where we are today. Not that we're in a good position... ugh... this gets too confusing...

first off, when someone said that dreams are a recap of events, i dont think that that meant that the recap was literal. like when you dream youre naked, you are recapping on a feeling or insecurity you have, or, Roxas, when you dream you are having sex, you may be dealing with some frustration or desire.

i've taken a psychology class and we had a chapter on dreams. supposedly, there are three different views on dreams.

    1. dreams are nothing more than a biological mechanism of the body that helps to reorganize information and memories processed throughout the day. when the brain does this, it inadverdently produces neuronal impulses that cause images in the head, hence you have dreams.

    2. dreams are only a psychological mechanism that allows us to understand out emotions and actions. they directly relate to our life, though they are sometimes dealing with it abstractedly.

    3. dreams are both biological and psychological and serve both functions previously mentioned. i like this idea best.

now, this is what the experts think, though they themselves are unsure. i found the idea of it being memories of another life very interesting. anyways, just adding my 2 cents!

A Shining Armour, i like how you put it!
