Dream Drop Distance for me is still too new and vague in order to even come up with a theory for myself. So for now anything is possible. I'm a bit curious as to what the Dream Eaters are, apparently there are bad and good ones, the bad ones are the enemies Sora and Riku face which eat dreams and plant nightmares. And there are good ones which I'm guessing are Sora and Riku's new allies that eat nightmares.
The fact that Sora and Riku can interact with these dream creatures mean they themselves might be in a state of sleep (Sora himself wondered why he has new clothes). Which all reminds me of Inception, maybe Sora and Riku were thrust into Xehanort's memories (which could tie into the random POV shot of Xehanort summoning his keyblade) by Yen Sid in order to find some clues to saving all the people who are "hurt" (Aqua, Xion, Ven, etc.), since Xehanort was a factor in their "hurt".
Another topic I wonder about is if this is the actual Mark of Mastery exam then did Aqua and Terra go through this Dream training too? Mickey might've done something similar to what Sora and Riku are doing now (that cutscene where he falls into a whirlpool in Birth by Sleep). Though Aqua and Terra were trained under Eraqus while Mickey was trained under Yen Sid so it could be that they have different methods of testing.
Finally, does anyone think if Dream Drop Distance could relate at all to Birth by Sleep vol.2? I was wondering if BbSvol2 was referring to 3D but I see no relation whatsoever which could mean there might be another game...that or Birth by Sleep vol.2 is just the name of the secret ending.

I guess that's an interesting theory. I mean, if Ven is sleeping, than I guess if you're in a world of sleep, wouldn't you technically be able to connect the two?
And also, that video....did you make that yourself?

I don't think there has to be only one test that is the mark of mastery. I'm sure Terra and Aqua had a lot of tests and maybe one of them was with them dreaming but I'm sure that it's not the only test.

Nice theory . . . considering I don't know much about the upcoming title release I can't really say much. I like the idea though and I think if it means more Roxas/Ven then bring it on ^_^

Nomura has stated before that "dream drop distance" means "the distance you fall in your dreams."

I think perhaps it refers to how deep your dream is.

The whole name, while grammatically ambiguous, refers to the distance you fall in your dreams.

I just realized something. The sleeping/falling metaphor was never really expanded on very clearly in the previous KH so I didn' t think about it much, however the dream animal companions that Sora and Riku have in DDD reminded me of the totem concept, which led me to shamanic dreams. I looked into it and here' s what I found :
