Dream Drop Distance: Release Date, Anniversary & Secret Ending Information

Hello KH-Vids. Today, we have some interesting news to report about.

Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is slated for a March 2012 release in Japan. Still not aware of an official release date, the Nintendo 3DS title should be confirmed for an exact release date within just a couple of days or even weeks.

In the mean time, we are receiving some information based on Dream Drop Distance. This includes information from the secret ending, special bundle set, Kingdom Hearts anniversary and more!

The Ending of KH3D

—So will KH3D will be equipped with a system that utilizes wireless transmissions?

Nomura: There is a mini game where you can compete against other player’s Dream Eaters via ad-hoc wireless to upgrade your Dream Eaters. These competitions occur differently than normal battles. It’s a system that we’ve wanted to try before.

—The expectations are rising for fans who want to know the release date and whether or not there will be a special edition release.

Nomura: Please wait just a little while longer for a formal announcement.

—Will the ending of this title also be a heart wrenching one?

Nomura: The ending for KH3D is a little unusual, the plan up until now had been different… But every once in a while I think, it’s good this way. In fact, the first ending I thought up quickly became no good due to various circumstances, but now the ending is something that I worry quite a bit about. As a result, we tried to do something unique for the ending this time. Incidentally, the secret movie will be shorter. Though it is short, like the Re:Coded secret movie, it will connect to the next shocking developments in the series, so please look forward to it.

- KH3D is in the final stage of production.
- There will be a special 3DS bundle announced but we'll have to wait for it.
- KH3D's release date will be announced soon.
- A surprise announcement for the 10 year anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series will be coming.
- KH3D has an ending that will be shocking, and unconventional for the series.
- The ending that was originally planned for the game was not approved.
- KH3D's secret ending will connect to a future game in the series.
- The secret ending of Re:coded, and the secret ending of KH3D will tie in together.

- In the opening movie, the top screen will feature a VisualWorks CG movie, while the bottom screen depicts traditional 2D animation of Mickey's silhouette moving around! This was inspired by his actions in Sorceror's Apprentice. As such, what he does at the bottom screen will influence what happens at the top.
- You can use the Dream Eaters you've collected to battle against another's via adhoc communication! The battle system is different from that of the in-game command deck, like a minigame of some kind.

Wow, this seems interesting. I am a little worried about them saying the ending will be unconventional... But I'm sure it will be good. It all looks good and it seems like a really great addition to the series.

I wonder what the 10 year anniversary thing will be as well...

Oh gosh, I'm so excited for all of this, and especially wary of this . . . strange ending that they have planned.

I like the little minigame they have planned, I bet that'll be a bit of fun. And I'm also really curious about the Mickey 2D animation effecting the CG movie on the top pannel.

Shocking ending huh? Something that Nomura worries about? Makes me very curious as to what that means I mean a whole bunch of shocking stuff happened in each of the KH endings, it has to be double the OMGness for Nomura to actually point it out lol. I was hoping he would explain if the secret ending would be CG or running on the game engine like the last few secret endings though there is still a bit of time to get more details on that until the March release date.

As for that Kingdom Hearts Anniversary I can think nothing else besides an HD collection, I mean when I think Anniversary I think of looking back at a series (some series even made remakes of their games such as Zelda and Halo for their anniversaries, Re:Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 anyone? Or maybe it'll be called Kingdom Hearts Reconnect? Since you're reliving your KH experience, therefore reconnecting with it...yeah I'm pushing it. XD), there was also that HD test thing Nomura mentioned a few months ago. Also assuming that Dream Drop Distance connects to the fabled and long awaited Kingdom Hearts 3 they're going to need something to fill the gap between since Nomura is working on Versus XIII (which hasn't been mentioned much lately so I'm guessing it's still awhile until it releases). Anyway the official anniversary is March 28 so I'm guessing we'll be hearing about it soon.

This all sounds very intersting, perhaps we finally get to play the Final Mix versions, this would be an appropriate present for the 10th anniversary, at least for players outside of Japan.

I'm not sure if that's possible. The anniversary should be the same for all countries...what ever it is that they decide.

I don't understand how Mickey's actions on the bottom screen will affect the opening... That is..., are we gonna have different openings depending on Mickey's actions? Or maybe, different depictions of some sort...?

As for the ending, i guess it must have been something quite extreme, since usually Disney is the one that censors stuff. I am very curious. Oh, so Chernabog is back huh?

EDIT: Wait wait wait. There is a small text about Lea in the article and it says something about his Heartless and Nobody! And it mentions the keyblade. Too bad i can't read much...

OMG I was literally just thinking about that like after I last commented. Sure it sounds crazy but so far the endings of the KH series have been so crazy it just might happen, since Nomura himself is calling it shocking and is worried about it. So it has to be something you never would've expected (even though the whole series is based on trying to do unexpected things).

what about a Sora becoming possessed after a dream confrontation with, I don't know, Vanitas, young Xehanort, or whatever? It'd be an easy way to make him turn evil
