Where my Downton bros at I've been meaning to watch this show for some time, but my friend and I recently sat down to watch it together (though he's up to date with the series). I was hooked on the first episode, hah. I'm still only on season one (just watched Episode Five tonight!) and aahhhhhh it's so good! Spoiler: anything up to the end of S1E05 Edith is devil spawn, for real. I would feel bad for her if she wasn't such a bitch. :l I mean Mary is... kind of messed up herself but I absolutely love her. O'Brien is a witch too though, and I hate Daisy so much omg. And Thomas too. Thus far I adore Branson and Matthew Crawley, I smell some Branson/Sybil (who I love too!!) action coming on, and I am very excited to see how Matthew and Mary warm up to one another. 8) Maggie Smith is a sassy bitch and I love her. I hope I'm not alone in my obsession. 8(
It's a good show with good actors that falls victim to shoddy storytelling techniques. The first season is great, but season 2 is a continuous decline of actual writing and it becomes less of a smart soap opera and more of a fantasy. It initially seems they're trying to darken the series, but that quickly goes out the window. I loved season 1, and disliked season 2. Not enough to keep me from watching the third, but, fair warning. But Maggie Smith doesnt even care and it's great
Ahh I am sad to hear that! As I said I am still in season one, so I'll see how they compare. Maggie Smith is a goddess.
Now that season 3 has finished premiering in the States, I can say I've been disappointed, and I agree with Britishism on the show's writing. Plots have fallen into formula and the character's problems seem to come and go too neatly. At one point in the middle of this season I asked myself, "Hm, almost everyone's problems seems to have been solved. Now what?" Then Branson comes back to Downton in a fit, and by then I was rolling my eyes. Even so, I still enjoy the series and love all the characters. If you like Downton Abbey, I recommend the films: From Time to Time, written and directed by Julian Fellowes. It features many of the same cast and contains the same mood as Downton. And Gosford Park. Both feature Maggie Smith and are available on Netflix.
Used to watch that show and i keep follow it every once n a while, i just have to sit and watch all the episodes i've missed lol
