I went out and checked on two of my applications; on my way out of Super One Foods, a shady guy with a backpack (I'm guessing homeless?) asks if I have a cell phone he could borrow real quick. I just keep walking, and he says, "Young man?" but I still keep walking.

I left my cell phone in the car (since I don't want it potentially going off when going in to turn in or check on my applications), so that worked out for me. I wonder, though, if I should have called 9-1-1.

Not sure if you're just really good at satire or...

Yeah, I personally wouldn't give anyone I didn't know my cell phone to use unless they gave me their bag, or wallet to hold or something. lol Don't call 911 though.

Additionally, I wouldn't give money to beggars, either. Not because I'm cheap, or heartless but because I'd be enabling their lifestyle of begging, which I'm against. Plus, like, I could be funding their drug habit, or human trafficking, or something else.

When I was in India, we were told not to give money to the beggars but it was just horrible when kids and women with babies came up to you. I only gave them something if I was able to quickly get away e.g. if I was in a rickshaw about to drive off so they couldn't follow me and tell other beggars of the 'rich white people'.

What do you mean by "checking" on an application?

The 9-1-1 call would have been more out of concern. If he's some sort of scam artist, I wouldn't want other people, especially those that are more trusting of strangers, to fall his trap.

    Job application.

If it's obvious that he's homeless, I'll usually just give' em a quarter and point them to the nearest payphone (those things are still good for something, when you can find them). That said, I agree that you shouldn't lend your cellphone to just anybody. Lots of personal biz going on in that gadget, yo.
