In KH2 when Pete claims that Yen Sid lived in the magic tower, Donald sounds awfully surprised and runs up to the door. But why surprised, when he and Goofy had been there 10 years prior? I know that this game was made before Birth by Sleep, but Square usually doesn't make mistakes like do they? Next thing we know, we're going to find two of one character in a scene or something!

Maybe he thought Yen Sid had moved out in the ten years between the games.

That is very true, I think it was something they just overlooked. However, it's possible they just forgot when they went to live at the Disney Castle as that's where they were before KH1. That line was mainly for the purpose of giving the player a shocked feeling of how important Yen Sid is.

It's because Birth by Sleep came out after Kingdom Hearts II that they did that. If they would have made his voice sound like he knew about the tower and that Yen Sid lived there, there would have been confusion as to how he knew, because, up until then, there were no things hinting that he knew about the tower or Yen Sid -- not in Kingdom Hearts and not in Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories.

Duh, Roxas and Ventus. Hahaa yeah i don't know if Nomura had thought of putting the tower in BBS, or if he was entirely sure as to how BBS would be while in KHII production. Well you can see errors like that in the FF games as well. Especially FFVII. the best example is the Bustersword. they remade its design in Crisis Core, which takes place before FFVII. so it probably is the result of the way Nomura usually makes storylines. He jumps around, so that is the result, instead of a straight line story telling like how most people do it, that usually doesn't cause as many problems.

I noticed this the very moment when I finished watching someone's walkthrough of BBS. I think it might just be because they made KH2 first, and they figured they might get away with making it that Donald reacting that way because it's 11 years between the two. But seriously, the only reasons I can think this happened are:
    1) Donald and Goofy completely forgot after 11 years
    2) Square Enix just decided to put Donald and Goofy at Yen Sid's Tower in BBS and didn't even think of what happened in KH2

    This.
Donalds reaction had more to do with the introduction of yen sid than his own past.

It could even be that Donald didn't recognize where they were until Pete said it. I mean, KH2 takes place like 11-12 years after BBS. It could have been "REALLY, THAT'S WHERE WE ARE?" kind of reaction.

Possibly. Someone correct me if im wrong because as far as i know donald and goofy didnt go through twilight town to get there the first time like they did when they were with Sora. So he may not have realized it at first for this reason.

it's most likely an inconsistency with the plot. but it's also possible that Donald was just shocked that Yen Sid lives in Twilight Town.

But you have to admit, everyone was wondering about a lot of things in kingdom hearts, like: who was roxas, why in the heck does this new guy (Ventus) look like roxas, why did riku suddenly become a keyblader if sora was "the chosen one" and stuff like that...

either that or things in the other posts

    i think this as well

these i can agree with too... XD i mean, it is possible that they made an error when they made bbs AFTER kh 2 and not looking back at the game or it could be anything... Last time i checked, donald didn't have THAT good of a memory...

One could argue (I personaly don't think this) that for whatever reason when donald and goofy had their memories fixed at the end of com that yen sids tower was omitted for some reason.

I came up with that theory, too, but then that leaves the question of why weren't all of their memories returned like they should have been? If intentional, why leave out such a critical memory?

Perhaps yen sid made contact with namine and told her to leave it out for some reason, one reason could be to keep his location secret or another could be to see if sora could find the place on his own as some "test" or something.

KH has a few errors and inconsistencies. For instance:

    1) Donald apparently forgetting that Yen Sid lives in the Mysterious Tower.
    2) Goofy apparently forgetting that Minnie was the one who banished Pete instead of "His Majesty."
    3) Mickey forgetting and then instantly remembering what Ansem looked like in a span of three seconds (Though I suppose this was just an issue with the dub).

Indeed, the game is full of flaws. And thats why I play them over and over again.

there was. you havent heard of the 2 Kairis? in BBS, when Aqua goes to Radiant garden and meets Kairi, when Mickey jumps in, theres 2 Kairis in the screen. one beside Aqua, and one behind her leg. heres a screen shot.

also, correct me if im wrong, but in KH2, Hollow Bastion, when they thought Goofy was dead, Donald says 'im sorry about the ice cream'. but it wasnt until later, when Maleficent sends them through a dark corridor that they find the ice cream and photo that Riku left for them.

    1. I made the 2 Kairi thread, so yes I know about it.

    2. I thought about that too. But just maybe they were meaning sometime in the past. But I doubt it.

I mainly believe that Donald was surprised at this because they arrived there from Twilight Town, which I doubt Goofy and Donald had been to before.

The Goofy point too was a problem in the dub. The Japanese version merely said 'majesty'. The English translators took this to mean that it was Mickey, but it was actually Minnie. So the canon is clear of error in this regard.
