I've always heard people say that water doesn't have a taste. If it does have a taste, it has an indescribable one. I want your opinions on whether it actually has a taste or not.

Note: I'm talking about drinking water, not salt water.

I think it has a taste.. everything has a taste.. it just doesn't have a flavor..

I'd say it has a filling taste.. because the more you drink the more you get sick of it.. :)

No. In order for it to be water, it has to be colorless, odorless and tasteless. The things you taste is not the water, but the things that are in the water. If it has a taste, it's not 100% pure water.

    I think it depends.
I think Aquafina has some sort of taste,
Apposed to Ice Mountain, which I cannot taste AT ALL.

You know, I don't really know if water has a TASTE,
But I can definately TASTE the difference between waters. o.0

Of course it does, it tastes like water.

Water is present in practically all foods (with a few exceptions), so that flavour is present underneath all the others. Take away all the other flavours from a meal, and you are left with a watery meal, which people began to call 'tasteless', despite it still being a taste.

If all foods contained chicken instead of water, then we would be arguing over whether chicken has a tatse instead.

it does have a taste but the flavor comes from impurities the real answer i think personally is the reason we cannot taste it or detect flavor is because it is present everywhere even in the air there are water molecules so say if water wasnt present everywhere then it would have a detectable flavor because as it stands our bodies are so used to it we do not detect any flavor any longer

I think water does have a taste.

Have you ever met someone that drunk spring water all the time but when they switched over to mineral water then it tasted funny to them? If water didn't have a taste them maybe they wouldn't have noticed that.

So stupid but I had to post. If youre talking about drinking water, different branda have different tastes, but from a scientific standpoint, no, water has no taste.

In my opinion, water has a taste, but it's different from where it's from.
Like saying that water from a well beside my house is different tasting from the city water where my Aunt lives.
It's all different, it's from the Filteration of the water.

I think water has a taste. For instance, tap water doesn't taste as good as spring water to me. I'm guessing it's because of the different minerals in the water...

Pure water cannot be described by any of the basic tastes (sweet, sour, bitter, salty or umami) therefore technically it has no taste. If it does seem to belong in any of these categories, it's because of an extra ingredient and not from the water itself.

Water from a natural spring or a highland stream has a very pure taste.

Drinking water does have a slight taste, ranging from nasty-ass tap water to spring water, and it starts tasting closer and closer to nothing the better quality the water is (is that a rip-off or what?). In its purest form I guess it should indeed taste like nothing, but then again it's not like what they sell is pure H2O.

I have to add that flavored water is delish.

Macon, Georgia has the best tasting water in America, apparantly. [has family there]
    They won a national award...
Anyways, I think that depending on what minerals, bacteria, tiny bugs, and bits of dirt are in it, the water we drink has a specific taste.
Scientifically, water does not have any taste- it is colorless, tastless, and I forget what the other 'less' word was.
    And that's why I have a B in science =D
