Frankly, I think video game music is actually more important than graphics

and can really affect how you feel about the game.

Some of my favorite games are Kingdom Hearts(which has arguably the most

beautiful music of any game I've played,), Super Mario RPG(which has the

catchiest music that'll be stuck in your head for years) and the N64 Zeldas.

And quite frankly I think one of the main reasons I think most modern sequels

aren't as good as the originals are the music.

For example, New Super Mario Bros. was a good game but had bland music it

and didn't seem anywhere near the level as the NES games which had very

good music. Same goes for Twilight Princess.

    What do you all think?

I'd say it depends on the type of game.

For stuff like fighting games and arcade games, not really.

But for stuff like RPG's, survival-horror, and adventure games, most definitely.

Yes. Imagine playing a game with only sound effects...it ruins the experience now that I think about it...

Without the music, the Sephiroth battles would seem easier, and I know most of us want a challenging fight with him and with Terra. So I would say, yes, because without music, every FF game before FFX would just suck...

music is video games sets the mood...kinda like movies: when something sad happens, sad music plays, when something exiting happens happy music plays

it most definatly DOES effect the experience, as someone else refrenced, imagine the death scene for Aeries on PS1 FF7, without any music at all, it wouldnt have been nearly as dramatic or gripping. I dare you, TRY playing through a KH or FF game with the sound muted....its horrible!

    It definitely does.

Music is what builds up the atmosphere a lot of the times, boss battle music especially.

It creates the tone and also helps to set the pace.

Music is pretty key to the gaming experience IMO.

I'm somewhere in-between. I don't really mind the music but I do like it when I've got a catchy tune in my head.

Somewhere in between. If the music is annoying, I usually don't wanna play the game. I put off playing Xenosaga II for months just because I hated the Second Miltia music. But if it's battle music, I don't care. When I'm leveling up or just fighting to get somewhere, I mute the TV and listen to my iPod.

Would Star Wars have been the same if the opening title crawl in 1977 was dead silent?
Would Aeris death n VII have had such a deep impact?
Would American's have been afraid to go in the water if Jaws theme was non existant?
Would Mario or Zelda have been what they are today without their music?

Music adds so much to video games just as much as movies. Can you give me the name of one video game that doesn't have a single measure of music? I doubt it. (i'm not counting sports games ps, even though most do have music on the menus)

Our entertainment industry would be flat if music wasn't added to games or movies.

I always turn the music volume up a bit on games, cuz I like it better than sound effects, which can get annoying, and it makes the game feel more real.
I sometimes get a lot of level themes stuck in my head for a bit from games like Kingdom hearts & Ratchet & Clank lol

    It definatly inhances it.

Take that time at Yen Sids castle, where you start fighting heartless and that really tinky music comes on. For some reason, the music always gets me worked up just to say "****, this is gonna be slaughter", as I start rippen apart heartless, ya know? But the music is always the one thing that does that to me, lol

Oh ya, and what would all of the orginization XIII moments be without their theme song? It always makes their scenes seem so much more........epic. ****, they should've had some sort of a sad scene with xemnas while playing that music. That would be freaken epic if we got to fight xemnas with that!

Yeah it does enhance all those moments
I like it how it makes sad scenes sadder or happier and really gives them feeling. That way it feels much more like an emotional, realistic adventure instead of just a game. You can really feel involved, and really get into it. And yeah it does make them way more epic!
I think it's this combination of music with graphics and the story that makes games good enough to earn a large fanbase and get a movie etc. It makes them feel so much more proffessional and brave, and complete.
Also music helps improve boring times, tells the viewer/player what they should be feeling and can even be iconic of the game if it's a really good theme.

Well, the poll shows that people who love KH love the music of games too!

I finally got through Fable (I know I'm late...) and I think without that music it would've sucked. It wasn't the best but really enhanced the atmosphere.
