Does anyone else think Arkham Asylum is better than Arkham City?

Yeah so I didn't really know where to put this, but I just finished Arkham City, and I feel like the first game was better. All the 10/10 reviews built up the hype machine and it didn't really deliver for me. I thought the first game was a lot more fun, and the open world city environment in Arkham City was extremely underwhelming. Is there a least one person out there that feels the way I do?

I'm up in the air, Combat and bosses were handled better in City, but the...atmosphere was better in Asylum, both games are great and things I like about both of them more so than the other, but overall I think for the gameplay I have to side with City.

    This.

Both games have unsatisfying endings. City had the better final boss though.

Am I the only one who constantly felt choked playing those games?

    They were pretty damn average.

Asylum was good, but to me in a nutshell, it just felt like another game starring stereotypical Batman
City has that sometimes but it also has that "more than just a superhero" feeling that other Batman media like the Dark Knight had.

I think everyone enjoyed them, including myself, because there are rarely any good super hero games around. Also, Batman is pretty popular right now because of The Dark Knight. So while they weren't game of the year material in my opinion, I haven't played a superhero game this good since Freedom Force. THAT'S 2002, SON.

I never played Asylum, but I did buy City on impulse. I was pleasantly surprised with how fun it was and how much content was there.

Not that they weren't better than other superhero games, they were. And the fighting was fun, same with exploring.
But so much data was constantly shoved down your throat that it was hard to enjoy their full potential.

The things that I liked better about the Asylum is that it was so much easier to obtain the Riddler trophies. So. Much. Easier. Also, I loved the creepiness and the darkness of it. When that first present popped open I freaked out because I was using the x-ray vision thing and I didn't know what was going on. Also loved the 'crazy' patients that would run around screaming. What I liked about City was the extensive bad guy bosses like Ras, Penguin, Joker, Riddler, Bane, and the others I can't think of at the moment xP Loved how Joker had a funhouse. The freedom was amazing, going through all those loading screens to go through different parts of the game were annoying in Asylum. The assortment of gadgets and gliding maneuvers was the bomb in City.

    Also,

    JOKER CAN'T DIE ;~;

They are like two peas in a pod, they can't be apart. Hated that ending so much I almost cried (couldn't because my brother was there). Plus he is super sexyness and amazing.

Don't care that Harley has a baby, I NEED REAL JOKER BACK!

I am keeping the idea of him not really dead though high in hopes.

All in all, they were pretty equal in my opinion without any personal things put into it.

Really? Maybe it was a good thing I never got around to City then, as the atmosphere was by far the best thing in the original Asylum and really the only reason it was good.

End of the day Chris that's just my opinion on the games, and one opinion at that, everyones got different tastes on everything, I say both of the games are definitely worth playing, BUT, if you did not like the first one, i don't see you liking the second one, because all of the core elements are still there, just enhanced for the most part.

Boss fights are definitely so much better though, fighting Mr Freeze on hard mode is one of the most entertaining fights i've had with a boss in a looong time.

Freaking Freeze was the best boss in either game...well, since I don't really consider the Scarecrow parts a boss fight.

Oh don't get me wrong, playing Asylum was very fun, but it was really the whole atmosphere that made it the great experience it was. At least that was how I percieved it. I'll check out the game eventually though, if only to check out this amazing combat everyone keeps talking about.
