I agree, I did miss having two-parters during the last season, but eh, it was a very minor complaint from me.

I know what you mean :3 My main concern with it was there was no small scale cliffhangers (not like the end of Name of the Doctor xD but you know- everything is dying and the aliens have won and the Doctor is about to die and then you have to wait until next episode). The classic series thrived on them, their serials were made up of 2-6 and more episodes which I absolutely love because the suspense is wonderful : D I don't know, the single episodes work fine and they are wonderful but it just feels like a more glorious episode when it's two parter, plus some stories need more than 45 minutes just to flesh them out. But really it depends on the story.

I watched the trailer before I went to bed yesterday and then I kept dreaming of the Doctor regenerating and got so excited I woke up and couldn't sleep.

In an article I read that this woman:
Is an old friend of the Doctor's, and in that picture she is all Dalek-ified which kind of mirrors the beginning of this series where the Doctor is lead into a trap. I think this could be quite interesting

I think it is quite bad that I am far too excited about this, I am more excited about this than actual Christmas day and my gosh I can't wait to see Peter Capaldi. I've seen quite a few theories and I like some of them but I think Moffat is going to pull out something amazing on Christmas day.

Just finished watching "Time of the Doctor." Beautiful episode that I feel fittingly ended the era of the 11th Doctor. Farewell Matt Smith.

Listening to parts of "Long Song" during the regeneration really fit the mood. ALMOST made me cry.

When Amy Pond (Karen bby ilu ;A; ) showed up, and then he took of his bowtie OH MY GOD HOW DO I FEEL ANYMORE.

But he regenerated happily, and all the poetic justice and references of Matt's entire career as the Doctor was so beautifully knitted together. Augh i can't use words anymore my mind is all wibbly wobbly and feely weely.

Combom usually has stream links up before and download links shortly after an episode is finished airing. Here's their DL page for Time of the Doctor.

Anyway, a few not-so-brief thoughts on Eleven's final hour.
Where to begin? I mean, I'm glad Moffat finally tied up all those loose ends, especially how the Silence came to exist, but everything felt so... rushed to me. If this had been a two-parter like The End of Time, I think it might've given them more time to wrap things up properly. Granted, Matt Smith was working on a broken leg so the whole aging thing makes more sense, but it's a huge plothole given that in the 100 years he spent grieving the Ponds he looked exactly the same. Don't get me wrong, I did love it and it essentially ripped my heart out, but let's face it: the transformation into Capaldi should've taken more than half a second.

Now, aside from all that, it was heart-wrenching. Tugged at the heartstrings in all the right places, and brought in all the right details -- Gallifrey, Trenzalore, Clara and her family, Amy, the bowtie, etc. -- to make this a fitting farewell to a Doctor who is near and dear to so many of us, regardless of whether or not he was our first. Seeing him grow old enough to become senile was terrible, and seeing him fight this war for so many centuries while he sent Clara off for Christmas dinner was just too much.
Well done, Moffat. I will miss the bowtie, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Capaldi's Doctor.

Ok I don't know if it was ever confirmed by the devil (Moffat), but I have a theory as to why Capaldi was the Doctor and not just a younger guy than Smith. I will put it in spoilers because obs the special has a lot of evidence to it.

Moffat said this was the end of an era of Doctor Who, the eleventh hour strikes twelve. On a clock, there are twelve numerals, and the cycle then repeats itself. (Get it wonderful analogy because Time Lord a hurr) The Doctor's very first variation of himself (William Hartnell) grew to be an old man, and died of old age as he regenerated. Matt Smith is the only other doctor to have the same occurrence. If you notice that each time the regenerations occur, he gets younger as each "avatar" of himself becomes anew. Once Smith passes and Capaldi appears, he is older than Tennant - Smith regeneration, but younger than old Matt before he got the 13th regeneration from the Gallifreyian boiz. Thus, the cycle ended, and now the "clock" has reached the oldest point once again.

    SIDE TRIVIA - The Twelfth Doctor and the First Doctor both started out on Doctor Who at the age of 55, have school teachers from Coal Hill School as companions, and don’t know how to fly the TARDIS. Moffat is up to no good again ;A;

Actually, the War Doctor (John Hurt) also died from old age as well. But yeah, I really did see a lot of William Hartnell in Smith during "The Time of the Doctor"

Well, I loved it after first questioning whether I did or not. I thought I might have actually found an episode I didn't like... and then I rewatched it and fell in love.

I am glad young Matt Smith regenerated and not the older version as that would feel just wrong. I thought it balanced humour and seriousness quite well and after the second watch, I enjoyed the story. I need to go through the whole Matt era to see if I have any other questions that weren't answered as it was quite a fast paced episode. I loved Handles... I wish he hadn't died D: he was a great companion! I think they need more non-human companions (a timelord one would be so cool!) but anyway, that's beside the point.

I will really miss Matt Smith as he was my Doctor but I cannot wait for Capaldi- I think I heard a Scottish accent (and I hope so) and I can't wait to see the theory of why he looks like people he's met before. Also, it will be quite amusing if he has to relearn things like flying the TARDIS unless that is just post regeneration madness, either way I can't wait for series 8 (oh look... minimum of 8 months to wait ;-;). I want to know why the TARDIS began to randomly crash again... I think I missed what he said to explain it. I was quite sad not to see a face to face transformation, it was incredibly quick but I wondered if that was just because it was the start of a new cycle or whether he had technically already regenerated but was just holding on to say goodbye.

Man, that final speech! It was so good that it was happy, 10 was very "I don't want to go! D:" but this was a satisfied feeling from the Doctor- it's good to see him happy because he has suffered so much.

Also... WHO WAS LINDA!? The woman at the christmas dinner- was she Clara's aunt or something? It would be amusing if it was an external reference to LINDA from Love adn Monsters but I doubt that xD Also, I didn't quite understand the Grandma's story about the pigeon O.o I think I just completely missed that.

The aging thing sort of annoyed me as Cat said- he has been in that body 400 years and never aged at all, but after another 300 years BAM! WRINKLES! and then another 500 years goes by and look at him. The make up was great though, it was sad to see him like that.

It did feel rushed but I also feel that if it was any longer than it would have dragged, it's weird- stuff was just passed over quickly- 300 years happens and then in over within about 1 minutes or less. The pacing just felt weird.

It amused me that they had to get a new actress to play Amelia because Caitlin Blackwood (is that her name? I can't remember) is now 4 years older xD and Karen Gillan! WOO! Although, it annoyed me that she said she would never return or make a cameo but here she is. It was a nice touch even if her hair was so long xD

The wig gag was amusing but I wanted a bit more explanation to the truth field because at the end the Doctor lies when he tells not Barnaby that he has a plan O.o

I assumed it was her father's girlfriend at first, but quickly dismissed that theory in favor of being an aunt since she was so cold towards Clara and her father still seemed to care. It may have been a small reference to LINDA, but it probably was just that: small. Also, the Grandma ditched the pidgeon story that the father wanted her to tell in favor of the story where she met her late husband. She told the different story to try and give Clara some advice about dealing with the end of her time with the Doctor.

Yeah, the wig gag was a great way to take advantage of his shaved head. As for the "plan," his plan was essentially to give in and die. He was out of ideas, out of options and out of hope. He even gave the whole speech about how he was dying of old age instead of getting killed by any one of his numerous enemies.
But yeah, I've yet to watch it a second time. I'll probably do so tonight.

Matt's head was shaved and he had a broken leg?! What the hell, I didn't even notice! I knew he'd cut his hair but holy moley. Karen's hair, on the other hand, was very easy to tell it was a wig.

Also, I think Matt's Doctor did age a bit over the course of the series? If you look at shots of him from series 5 and series 7, he definitely looks older, and I don't think that that was all Matt himself ageing, because I feel like he looks younger in recent interviews than he has recently on the show. Makes sense that after 300 years he might have a wrinkle or two. And then the second aging, was another 500 years, really?

See, the thing is, the Second Doctor said, not long after he'd regenerated from One, that he was about 450 or so, meaning the First Doctor died of old age at about 450. Which leads me to believe that each body, depending on how old it is when he regenerates into it, lasts about 400 years. New who subverts this a bit, of course, because timey-wimey nonsense, but the principal is about the same.

    Therefore, imo,
11th Doctor regenerates into the body of a 25 year old + 1200 years = 11th Doctor regenerates in the body of 100 year old = perfectly reasonable if you ask me.

    don't contradict me

The whole 'The Doctor Lies' thing is a thing Moffat made up, and is largely associated with the 11th Doctor (because yes, 11 is a bit of a liar, moreso than the other Doctors (who do lie, but not really to the extent that 11 and possibly 10 does)). Classic Who, though, was very consistent with his age, leading me to believe that, even if the Doctor as a whole was a liar, his age is a thing he isn't lying about. The Seventh Doctor's age was somewhere in the 900s (I don't remember the exact amount), but the Doctor's age was reset to 900 in NewWho, the reason being that the Doctor no longer remembered how old he was anymore after the Time War, so he picked a number and went up from there (and, personally, I think Hurt!Doctor's suggestion of a midlife crisis wasn't too far off the mark; 900 would be quite young for a Time Lord, as most Time Lords would only be on their third body at that age).
