This probably has no relevance but

I was looking through the Autons wiki page and there was an attempted Auton invasion in 2013. I wonder if they'll be returning.

I've seen this sort of thing around and I agree, a lot of it does seem forced. It may be significant to the plot but part of me also thinks that it's merely small self-references--when creating the tombstones obviously they needed dates, so rather than pull them out of a hat, they choose one or two significant to the show. I doubt it has much bearing on the mystery of Clara.

Well I think the Ellie Oswald theory MIGHT just have some relevance since that date was an actual event in the Whoniverse, and there's Rose coming up in the 50th. Most other references seem a little too subtle, so I'm a little doubtful they matter.

Guys! Look at what I saw at my campus a few minutes ago:

If you can't read it, it says "Bad Wolf"

    What could it mean??

And no, I didn't write it myself, I swear!

I left a 'bad wolf' on a big stone on this beach slightly reminiscent of Bad Wolf Bay, eheh.
    Also my sister just watched series 2-4 in two days. You wouldn't believe how proud I am of her ;____;

Well first things first, I have started really getting into classic Who and would definitely recommend it to any Whovian because it is just like the new series but with less good special effects and 25 minute long episodes with stories that run over 2-6 episodes. However, the story is still there so don't let it put you off.

Anyway, back to "The Cold War"

A good episode, not as good as the previous two in my opinion but I found it quite dramatic and can see how it could be scary. I never found the Ice warriors overly frightening as they were slow and waddled everywhere with lego hands but both those things were improved here. I will need to watch the episode again because my parents spent a lot of time talking over certain bits so I missed some story line.

I felt Clara's presence was a lot less in this episode which was a bit of a disappointment, she may have helped solve it in the end but I just kind of felt she was put to the side behind the Ice Warriors.

I was quite amused by the TARDIS mess they were put into as it ran off, of course it was just a way to get the ship out of the story so it couldn't be used in the plot.

Overall, an alright episode but I'd put it in with my "filler" episode collection along with stories like "The beast below", "Gridlock" and "The end of the world". Good episodes to watch but not my favourite, I'd really have to be in the mood to actually watch them.

I was going to post my thoughts but ya basically covered them Enzy... though I disagree with the episodes you cited as similar filler! hah.
hungry like a WOLF? moffat plz
Next week's episode looks good & seems to go into Clara's identity, which will be neato. Though I hope everyone noticed
The Doctor seemed to use the red setting on his screwdriver.

I noticed that! I drooled and tried to explain it to my parents. They didn't understand my excitement xD

    Finally saw it this morning.

I absolutely adored the idea of a nuclear threat. 42 was one of my favorite Tennant-era episodes (though Martha is absolutely my least favorite companion) and that constant tension is something I adore in any episode, filler or not. It was nice to see a Classic Who villain return, and I tip my hat to Mark Gatiss.

While I do adore Clara as a companion I felt like she was just, I don't know, adrift throughout. She didn't really contribute much to the episode as a whole imo, and though I can understand her desire to seek approval from the Doctor I feel like that should've been addressed more in the last two episodes instead. Usually by a companion's third episode they stop seeking approval and start being brilliant, though undoubtedly terrified of the life or death scenario.

I also adored the little things here. The TARDIS' disappearance is reminiscent of a DW book that I read over the summer, "The Dead of Winter" as that also had a malfunction in the TARDIS that caused it to disappear until all the danger had dissipated (though it did reappear in the same place as opposed to the opposite pole, haha). The inclusion of a red setting was absolutely brilliant, though at first I thought it might've just looked red due to the sub's lighting, and I feel like they honestly should've incorporated it earlier on with Eleven, especially considering River's sonic has already had the red setting since Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead.
And then Duran Duran. <3 I honestly love Hungry Like the Wolf, and though it seemed quite random, I sincerely doubt they're hinting at anything (but in reality, anything could point to anything because MOFFAT).

And in regards to the preview for Hide:
I've been waiting for the episode that investigates Clara + "I am the Doctor, and I am afraid," and to have both in the same episode will be GLORIOUS. Given my recent dive into Supernatural I've opened up substantially to scary stories and ghosts, and I think it'll be interesting to observe how events unfold, or even if they unfold at all.
Last episodes involving ghosts were both with Rose (The Unquiet Dead & Army of Ghosts).

Filler or not, I still liked the episode (especially considering how I thought Ice Warriors looked like oversized LEGO figures in the classic series compared to their badass look in this episode).

But one thing's been bugging me:

Why the hell does the Doctor have a doll???

Also, my sister now likes the show, and it seems 11 and Clara are her favs (she hasn't seen any episodes other than Rings of Akanten and Cold War), which is fine by me because Clara and the Doctor make a great duo.

After getting around to watch through City of Death finally, why does the Doctor find Clara "impossible"? This isn't the first time he's met someone in an almost identical situation. The only two things that differentiate Clara from Scaroth is that Clara isn't telepathic and she's human.

Still disappointed that The Rings of Akhaten didn't bring back the Osirians, though. And it was nice and a bit refreshing to have a standalone episode for once.

I am wondering the same thing, I've been able to find no adequate explanations for it...

    Same, although

Maybe it reminds him of Rose or someone special gave it to him?

    I did read
the suggested Rose theory on tumblr but apart from the doll being blonde I didn't really see any connections. I could have missed something, though.

I saw the doll thing as just a "LOL LOOK AT WHAT THE DOCTOR HAS IN HIS POCKETS!" But of course, you can never be sure of anything with Moffat xD

Also, I read this a while back but remembered it today because of Zygon references. It's a foreword by David Tennant in the booklet that came with my DVD's of the "Specials" and I thought it was beautiful and I loved it so I thought I'd share even if it's isn't overly exciting, some of you may already have it but for those that don't:

What's interesting is that there isn't a poster (or an episode title) for the season finale. I'm really curious as to what's planned for it, as I'm hearing that it'll connect to the 50th anniversary episode.
