This isn't necessarily a spoiler, but just in case ~SPOILER~

If The Doctor is killed during regeneration then that's it. He isn't invincible. Now spoiler time.

Like the whole arc where River was supposed to kill The Doctor. The Doctor tricked fate by using the robot as a replacement. However, if he had not used the robot, then he would've died at the second shot. It takes a lethal strike to force The Doctor to regenerate, a second lethal strike during the regeneration process would kill him. I'm sure there are also a number of ways Moffat could work up to end The Doctor, like Time Lord regeneration cannot take place while in the fields of Trenzalore, etc. I just have this feeling like this will either be the end of Matt Smith, or the end of DW altogether. The direction in which the show has been going, the darkness of it all, just makes me think that this is going to happen.

A timelord can only regenerate 12 times, for a total of 13 incarnations. There have been exceptions, though.
But also a timelord can be killed completely in certain circumstances. You can't always regenerate from everything; the body has to be mostly intact for regeneration to occur.

True on all counts, but realistically speaking, why end the show now? It's on such a high and there's still two more regenerations left (as far as we know, as per that discussion with Misty a few pages back). So many more stories to tell. Moffat and Smith may go but the show can still go on in new directions.

Killing off the Doctor wouldn't necessarily end the show. There's always Tennant's Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose, Martha and Mickey, or even Jenny that could be revisited and keep the show going for a while, as well as Clara herself. Then there's also The Master, who is supposed to be returning at some point. I won't deny that they'll have to bring The Doctor back, but killing him off "for good" for a while would be perfectly fine.

Well... What, like have a couple of stand alone episodes for the companions that would eventually lead up to some sort of Doctor's return? It seems much too edgy, and I'm not too sure people would receive that very well. I know I have my doubts about such a thing.

It happened before, in a way, with the first The Master episodes of New Who. That was successful enough, an episode or two mostly without the Doctor, focusing on the companions. I'm positive that anyone who would be willing to write off The Doctor would have a very good way of bringing him back believably if they wanted to, and none of Doctor Who's writers have been actually bad enough to write something completely unbelievable.

The Series 3 Master episode, The Sound of Drums? That was a single episode, and the Doctor was very much alive, it just focused on Saxon is all.
Well it's a possibility I suppose.. Anything can happen with Doctor Who?

Well we can assume that it's Meta-Crisis Doctor as opposed to the actual Ten, though I suppose it's entirely possible that it'd be an untold chapter of the actual Tenth Doctor and Rose.
I can't begin to imagine what they have planned for Hurt though. 50th anniversary special is bound to be spectacular with that cast list though.

Still banking on it all coming together with
Clara being Rose & TenToo's daughter, propagated throughout time by the Bad Wolf.

Never even had that theory cross my mind. Seems plausible, but the major issue with that would be
The way that the Bad Wolf was taken care of. When Nine regenerated, all that energy dispersed/disappeared/disintegrated/whatever TARDIS energy does.
I'd just have a hard time seeing that as canon, but maybe Moffat can make something work. Too soon to know as of yet.

Still ridiculously excited for Tennant and Billie's official inclusion into the special though. My bby~

    That's a good point.
Perhaps TenToo has some of that energy inside of him? idk

Maybe. I mean, given the alternate universe and all, it may or may not be possible.

Then again, Clara's multiple lives throughout time might just be a future version of Eleven's doing (maybe at the end of this season even, idk)?

Actually, I think there might be more people returning than just them.

David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston both made interestingly vague and almost leading, remarks in interviews and now with Tennant confirmed, I think Nine might be returning too. On top of this John Barrowman has also been making little comments, some that might suggest he is, followed by explicitly denying being involved, but he might just want to keep it a secret so I wonder if Captain Jack will be back? I'm not sure if they could have any older doctors as they're supposed to look the same as they did when they were in the Tardis, which none of them really do anymore, however there have been rumours that all 11 might be returning which would certainly be interesting.

    Interesting theory, but:

With technology nowadays, it's very easy to recreate the other doctors and put them in. Just look at what they did in Return of the Jedi! The went back and edited in Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker instead of the other actor who was originally Darth Vader. I think that if there's rumors saying that they could all come back, it's entirely possible.

    Not necessarily.
In the Red Nose Day special "Time Crash," the Tenth and Fifth Doctors meet up in Ten's TARDIS, and Five looks far older than he did in his run. Ten even mentions his balding and age, and the excuse is that the temporal distortion caused his physical appearance to change. If the technology option isn't feasible for Moffat, which shouldn't be a problem considering the BBC's pool of funds, they can always try and get past Doctors to reprise their roles.

In fact, I think I remember something going around about getting all the living Doctors to come back and have the deceased actors "appear" in flashbacks.

If they can get the classic doctors that are still alive and make it work, I wouldn't mind. But I don't think 1, 2, and 3 should appear (maybe in flashbacks, but that's it), out of respect for the deceased actors who portrayed them, as I don't think replacement actors can do it as good as they did.
