Yeah, in "The Doctor's Wife" when the Doctor is talking about his Timelord friend who had the snake tattoo in every regeneration he does say he was a woman once. My guess is each timelord has a gender and when they regenerate they are likely to retain that gender but not always since it seems unlikely that a male doctor would be a female and vice versa. Also, the Doctor, when regenerating into Eleven, thinks he's a girl which probably shows it is possible. I, at first, was against the idea but now I'm warming to it, I think it would be interesting but not for long periods of time, it would have to be done just right.

I am now very excited for March 30th : D Also, I just assumed we wouldn't get series 8 until 2014 since we have the second half of series 7 this year, 50th anniversary, Mark Gatiss' tribute drama and probably various other things. I don't know, I just assumed Doctor Who schedules would go back to normal after this year (starts in Easter and continues for 13 weeks, christmas specials at christmas). I don't mind either way really.

Yeah, I have very mixed feelings about it too. it could be either really awesome or really, really bad. But I also think that some of the Doctor's current traits have a "male" implication to them, at least in New Who--
the Doctor is kind of a war torn guy; Rose aids with that but the constant loss of companions and destruction that surrounds him leaves him extremely... bitter, I suppose, is the word? He's lonely but, as we see in The Snowmen, he's afraid to let people in, because he's so sure that he will end up hurting them, that he doesn't deserve their company, etc. It's very much a tale of loneliness and self-reproach, I think (God Complex!--who else?).

But then, he has his companions. The companions who heal that loneliness and help him open up again. It's a very (pun-intended) heart(s hawhawhaw)-warming concept, imo, and is very conducive to their genders. Men are traditionally the silent sufferers, while women are warm, healing presences. It's very much a gender stereotype and it would be cool to break down some of those stereotypes, but I also really like the concept. I think it's very classic.

I have to agree. Most females are "empathisers" while males are the "systemisers" which basically means women are EMOTIONS GALORE! while males think things though logically. Doesn't mean they can't cross but that is the general idea xD I think if the Doctor became female then it could help him emotionally come to terms with certain things in his life. She'd have a male companion I'm guessing? Which I think would be most interesting, it's hard to get a male companion to work on their own at the moment because I like the sexual undertones and the idea that the companions help heal the Doctor with their life experiences and advice. It could very well work the other way around as long as the Doctor isn't some Damsel in distress character but rather a strong woman. I suppose the weirdest thing is the fact that he's always been male so a female would just be a weird concept- although the show is all about change.

Males are also normally associated with being the heroes due to superior strength and logical thinking which is what the Doctor is about- he's very logical.

As far as this whole female Doctor issue goes, you might wanna check the 18:00 mark in this parody (written by Steven Moffat of course...) done several years before the series was revived:

Knowing Moffat, I wouldn't be surprised if the 12th Doctor ends up being female

I remember that. i loved it when I saw it.

Also, I find it funny that the female doctor was the 12th, and she's being discussed on this thread's 12th page

Yeah, I heard that it would be in cinemas playing in 3D which I may just have to go and see.... yeah, I just read it in that article.

I am very excited and very glad Matt Smith isn't leaving any time soon, I wonder how long he'll go for, will he beat Tom Baker's 7 years? He's my favourite Doctor so I would be happy for him to ^^

    Damn you Brits and your abundance of HD BBC channels and 3D Doctor Who playing in theaters. ;-;

Still, it's nice to see this thing getting so much love, and it's good to know that Matt Smith will continue to play his brilliant Doctor.
Still sucks that Moffat had to go and throw the yearly schedule completely out of whack though.

I don't know why, but I just read most of those comments.

People were moaning about the splits and series 8. It's good we have a Xmas special this year and series 8 next year (although it's mot officially confirmed yet, I don't doubt for a second the BBC won't recommission it) and I personally don't mind a split. I also think the amount of work that has gone into the show is enormous and to expect series 8 quickly is just not right, I can wait for my Who because I want it to be quality. I also don't mind the split as long as it has a purpose. One thing I do miss though is the double episodes, I hope they make more of a return in series 8.

I checked it out a week ago and jesus Christ that show is long. I'll be like 50 years old and that show will be still making episodes.
In all seriousness that show seems really interesting.

Hey hey guys look what I found in our school library the other day
    IMG_0504.JPG

I certainly hope he will. There's just something about the turn the show took when Moffat and Matt turned up for series 5. I mean I love Nine and Ten is just amazing, but Eleven is my guy. With series 5 onwards it's as if the show turned a new, bright and brilliant leaf on every front; Eleven's personality, the writing, even the music ( Doctor Who XI and I Am the Doctor in particular).
I just hope it doesn't end anytime soon, plus considering that there are only two regenerations left as far as we know.. well I want my future kids to have Doctor Who.

I have little doubt in my mind that they'll skirt around this, not to sound cynical because I would hate for Who to end, but such an iconic and popular show, with such an easy way to continue it (Doctor drops out, just have him regenerate), I can't see them abandoning it. In The Next Doctor (part of the post-S4 mini-series) we see that one guy as a Doctor and he doesn't even seem to recall being Ten. Granted, Eleven is approaching 1200 (whereas Ten is what, 908?) if he's not already there, but even so, forgetting your face has gotta take a few regenerations.

Also, I'm completely unfamiliar with Classic Who so I'm certain I'm inaccurate here, but wasn't the 13 regeneration limit imposed by the Time Lords? There does seem to be a limited amount of regeneration energy,
we see this a lot with the Doctor and River, River having it because she's part Time Lord; River saves the Doctor after she poisons him in Let's Kill Hitler, and the Doctor heals River's bruised hand in Angels Take Manhattan
but I'm not really sure how it works. Anyone know?

I too would love to see Smith stay around for a long time, Nine and Ten were remarkable and I love to watch them, but Eleven is my Doctor, I suppose.

That makes two of us then! Heheh~
I guess anything could happen, this IS Doctor Who after all. Something might have happened to the doctor and he forgot?
Or perhaps a tool like that of The Master to de-age him? Plus there's the 'Fall of the Eleventh' from Dorium's prophecy. At the end of series 6.

So the Time Lords forced death after the 13th regeneration or something? I think I'll look that up in a bit.
What we know for sure is that the regeneration energies have a limit, so there will come a time when The Doctor will have to die. :(

Just not anytime soon I hope.

Just looked it up on the Doctor Who wiki:
Time Lords had a limited regenerative cycle of twelve regenerations, consisting of thirteen incarnations, after which they would suffer permanent death... As with most such "rules", there were occasionally exceptions to the twelve regeneration limit. The High Council offered the Master a new regenerative cycle if he rescued the various incarnations of the Doctor from the Death Zone. (TV: The Five Doctors) Although he did not receive this award on that occasion, during the Last Great Time War the Master was given the ability to regenerate at least once more. (TV: Utopia)

In his Eleventh incarnation, the Doctor claimed he could regenerate five hundred and seven times. (TV: Death of the Doctor) Whether the Doctor was speaking the truth is unknown. Though since the Time Lords are gone now, it is possible the limitations are moot.

Time Lords could be revived with regeneration energy. Doing this, Melody Pond (in her third incarnation) used up her remaining regenerations to save the Doctor's life and was hospitalised as a result. It is unknown if this act gave the Doctor all her remaining regenerations. (TV: Let's Kill Hitler)...
So there are several possibilities here; as the Time Lords are all dead, the restrictions may not be imposed. Furthermore,
In Let's Kill Hitler, River could have extended the Doctor's limited regenerations.
And--this is pure speculation, because I don't know much about Time Lord lore or the war, but could killing all of the Time Lords have possibly transferred some of their regeneration energy to the Doctor?

Well.. that would give the Doctor A LOT of regenerations, enough to keep the show going on till the Millionth Doctor. XD
And then they could go on about how heartbreaking it is that The Doctor still lives because his people are dead by his hand, and it would kill him each time he regenerates because it could have instead been the life of an old Time Lord frien-/shot
So The High Council controlled regenerations huh? So they must have had a source which they could draw time energy from and put into Time Lords and Ladies. And perhaps it was destroyed when Gallifrey was lost..?
I do suppose the time energy had to go somwhere, but wether into the last remaining Time Lords or back into the time vortex, I guess we can't know for sure.
Though I suppose this is all really REALLY deep speculation now. XD The River's regenerations scenario seems a little more likely.

The director for the 50th Anniversary episode was announced to be Nick Hurran, who directed The Girl Who Waited, The God Complex, Asylum of the Daleks (my personal favorite of the episodes he directed), and The Angels Take Manhattan. The special will be shot in 3D (as previously reported), and is rumored to be 90 minutes long.

*sigh* I really wish the 50th anniversary episode would be released in select theaters in the U.S. Oh well..

Ooh, interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed eacg of those episodes and I'm looking forward to seeing his work. Also 90 minutes = fangasms <3

Same, but what can you do? Maybe they'll release a 3D blu-ray in the states (doubt it but we can hope).
