Like the title says, do you think
it helps? Not as in listening to your ipod when you're studying. Like, knowing how to play the piano helps with math.

Why would knowing how to play the piano help with math? I see no connection.
Just like I don't really see a connection between playing guitar and, I don't know, history.
I do have to say, I do not play any instrument so maybe I am wrong and it does help, but it sounds a bit strange to me.

I do believe listening to music on you iPod or whatever helps, but it depends on what music you listen.
If it's relaxing music you can study better, because no other sounds or things can annoy or distract you while you are studying.
This is my opinion though, it does not count for everyone.

On a personal level, music makes me work slightly slower, but more accurately. Without music I get too involved in work and can't focus on whether some things are right. Although I am much faster without it, conversely.

I'd prefer music but it isn't always necessary. But statistically it's been shown music won't always make the scores be higher. But also, it is dependent upon the individuals skill in the subject when listening to music. It's very debatable.

it can only help if it lets you tone out the ignorant loud people in your class...

It depends. When you set up your 'study area' to do homework and such, you want an area that is free of a lot of distraction noises. Some soft music can help drown out sounds elsewhere and help you to relax if you are tense but if you have ADD, it can also sometimes be annoying. A fan can also work to drown out sounds around you, just as well in most cases and can be less distracting if someone is the sort to easily focus on something else instead of what they are doing. It just comes down to your preference really and the type of person you are.

I found that it makes me not work better, but it helps me stay on task. I guess it's all a matter of personal preference and style.

I actually find it a lot easier to focus when I'm listening to my music. Mainly because in silence, I think WAY too much. And the more I think about other things, the less I can focus on what I'm doing. When I'm listening to music, my focus is split between work and the beat/melody of the song and puts me into a kind of trance so as long as the music is going, I'm doing my work.

    Completely yes.

Whenever I do my homework, I always listen to music and I get these images in my head that I can't really fathom without the rythm and beat of the music. It lets me focus on the music and just do the work. When I focus too much on my work, I tend to make stupid mistakes instead of just doing it and going with the flow. Listening to music lets out your creative side and can engage your brain in amazing ways.

I think it might help, after all, it helps soothe you mind and help you concentrate.

Although, it depends on whether you can multitask absorbing the music in or doing work.

Only certain type of music helps me really. I mean, if it's heavy metal and you're trying to read a story, I can't focus at all. But if it's classical, then I can read from the text book and comprehend things easier. It's different for everyone though. Sometimes it's good to have complete silence so you can process thoughts easier without listening to the rhythm and beat of the music.

I know it helps me. When I started playing my Essential Piano CD's as I did homework, I noticed that I retained the information better. Now it's daily. Whereas, I cannot do homework while listening to The Beatles. I get way too distracted. I'll start jamming rather than doing my work.

It depends on the actions I'm performing...if I'm in gym class it motivates me pretty easily. Barely any concentration needed to lift weights. Even when reading books I can listen to music...when it comes to things that use relatively high concentration for, like math problems, they can hinder me. I'd say its a mix of yes and no, but it really comes down the music being listened to too.

I find it relaxing to do homework when listening to jazz music, though I rarely play music while doing mine. I've also heard a few friends of mine saying that the couldn't work well at all when it's quiet. I have a hard time concentrating myself without hearing any noise too. So I guess music can help some people out, but you'd think noise would distract them more.

When it comes down to it, it all depends on what you are doing. If its something like learning the piano, it could help you concentrate better if you know what I mean.
Listening to music (like the classical or really mellow stuff) can help you relax and concentrate more if you are doing a task like reading or writing something, or even typing up an essay. But if the task is something like, lets say for example, driving a car or you're building something in your woodworks class, then I would say that listening to music would not be a good idea as it can lead to you being distracted and you could get injured because of it. When it comes down to it, it really all depends on what the student (or yourself) is doing.

    Ohhh, this has potential <3
Anyways, yes, I believe that music helps you do better. Not only in, let's say school, and just life in general. I will listen to my iPod in the middle of work sometimes and my boss will say I do better on those days. It just drowns out the stress of life...sometimes...
